Chapter 143: A House Of Cards.

Jessica crushed her cigarette into the ashtray. "Anyway, our business starts today. I’ve already advertised the drugs, and our first customer is ready. We’ll meet them at the library during lunch. I’ll handle the first delivery, and you guys can watch and learn."

Meanwhile, Aiden made his way to the 3RM, slamming the door to the dorm behind him. The faint echoes of his footsteps quickly faded, leaving the room in a thick silence. He let out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding and collapsed onto the couch, staring down at the small, tightly wrapped package still clutched in his hand.

It felt heavier than it should, like it carried the weight of everything wrong in his life. His pulse quickened as his fingers worked at the wrapping, tearing it away until the contents were revealed, a simple flash drive.

For a long moment, Aiden just sat there, staring at it as though it might suddenly explain itself.

"What the hell am I doing?"

The question echoed in his mind, a gnawing doubt that had been building for days. He hated this. Hated that it had come this far. Hated that he was even holding the damn thing. But he couldn’t turn back now, not after everything. It was too late.

"I’m here already. No turning back now," he muttered, half-convincing himself as he sighed and pushed off the couch.

Crossing the room to his desk, Aiden grabbed his laptop and plugged in the flash drive. His hands trembled slightly as he sat down, forcing himself to remain calm, though his heart pounded violently in his chest. The drive began to load. A progress bar slowly crawled forward on the screen, inch by painful inch, until it finally hit 100%.

The video opened.

Anabella appeared on the screen, in a dimly lit room that Aiden recognized immediately, Louise’s mansion. His stomach churned. The camera angle was perfect. Too perfect. She was on the bed, naked, her body moving rhythmically as she had sex with Louise. Louise’s face was deliberately hidden, positioned just out of the camera’s view, making it impossible for anyone who didn’t already know him to identify him.

Racheal and Peace, the others who had been there that night, were nowhere to be seen. The entire scene had been meticulously edited to show only Anabella and Louise, with Louise’s identity masked. It was obvious who the main target was.

"I’m going to ruin you, Anabella," Aiden hissed under his breath, a smirk tugging at his lips. "If I’m going down, you’re going down too. I’ll make sure of it."

With swift fingers, Aiden transferred the video to his WhatsApp account, using a new number he had just purchased to stay anonymous. He opened the school’s WhatsApp group chat, finding Anabella’s contact easily. His smirk grew wider as his finger hovered just inches away from the send button. Victory was just one tap away.

"Alright, students. That’s all for today," Mr. James said as he packed his textbooks into his bag, his voice echoing slightly in the now-emptying classroom. "Don’t forget to submit your assignments before 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. See you next class."

The moment Mr. James walked out, the room exploded into noise. Students dragged chairs back, slammed locker doors shut, and filled the air with chatter and laughter, the atmosphere immediately lightening as the end of the school day drew near.

"You didn’t tell me you and Lucas were fighting," Mark said with a sigh, looking over at Lucas, who sat at his desk, his face buried in his textbook. "I tried greeting him, but he ignored me. What’s his problem? Is it because of Aiden?"

Mark’s brow furrowed as he pulled out his phone, checking for any missed calls. "I saw he tried to reach me, but yesterday was crazy. We’re at Aiden’s house all day, cleaning, cooking, helping out. I barely had time to even check my phone."

"Just ignore him," Lara chimed in with a shrug, not bothering to glance in Lucas’s direction. "Lucas is being childish. If he doesn’t want to talk to Aiden, fine. But that doesn’t mean he can stop you from doing so."

"I wasn’t even fighting with him!" Olive exclaimed in frustration, rolling her eyes. "But he’s acting like it’s the end of the world. I guess he’s mad at me for interacting with Aiden."

Mark raised an eyebrow. "Is that seriously what this is about? Just because you’re talking to Aiden? That’s ridiculous."

Olive shrugged. "Yeah, pretty much. Lucas says I don’t care about him. Says I only care about everyone else. He’s just so annoying."

"Awwn... isn’t that sweet? Let him cool off," Lara said with a laugh. "He’ll come crawling back once that overdramatic head of his cools down."

Mark and Lara burst into laughter, and even Olive couldn’t help but crack a smile.

"He can’t do without you anyways. He’ll soon come crawling back" Mark chimed in with a light chuckle followeed by an outburst of laughter from Olive and Lara.

"Speaking of which, where is Aiden?" Lara asked, glancing toward the door for what felt like the hundredth time. "He didn’t show up for class."

"He texted me earlier," Mark said, holding up his phone for them to see. "He’s in the 3RM special room, said he needed to relax. We’ll go grab him in a bit so we can head to the hospital. Can’t miss the doctor’s appointment."

"Yeah, let’s just go get him now," Lara chimed, stuffing her books into her bag. "Aiden should be done relaxing by now."

Olive nodded in agreement as well as Mark who also began packing his books and was soon done after which they made their way out of the classroom.

At the same time, Jessica, Anabella, Racheal, Peace, and Henry were sitting in the library, though none of them seemed to be paying much attention to the books laid out before them. Their eyes darted around nervously, anxiety seeping through their calm facades. They weren’t here to study. They had come to conduct business.

"So, when’s he supposed to get here?" Anabella asked quietly, leaning closer to Jessica. Her voice was barely above a whisper. "It’s taking like forever."

"He’ll be here soon," Jessica replied, glancing at her watch. She was trying to stay calm, but the impatience was growing. "This is our first customer, and he’s the key to getting more. We have to be patient."

Anabella sighed, folding her arms. "It’s been thirty minutes. I’m starting to think he’s not coming."

Henry, who had been silently watching the conversation, finally spoke up. "You said he’d put the money in one of the books, right? How are we supposed to know which one? There are thousands in here."

Jessica shot him a confident look. "Just watch. I’ve done this before. You’ll see how it’s done."

Moments later, a boy with dyed blue hair and tattoos on his neck strolled into the library. He walked straight to a shelf, picked a book, flipped through its pages for a few seconds, then walked out without a second glance.

"That’s him," Jessica said, standing up so quickly that it startled the others. She marched over to the shelf and grabbed the book, flipping it open to reveal fifty dollars tucked between the pages. She smirked, quickly replacing the money with a small, tightly wrapped packet of drugs, not letting anyone see her.

She returned to the table, slipping the cash into her pocket and flashing her group a smug grin. "First transaction, done. Now we just wait for more."

"Fifty bucks for a single packet? These kids are loaded," Henry whispered excitedly. "But are you sure he won’t recognize you?"

Jessica shook her head. "No way. He was in and out. He didn’t even look around. Plus, I’m not the only one here. There’s no reason for him to suspect me."

"What if he has someone watching us?" Racheal asked nervously. "Or what if he’s working for someone? A spy, maybe?"

"Sent to make sure we all get caught." Peace added, her hands folded over her chest. "I’m trying to escape going to prison but I feel like I’m actually digging prison pit with what we’re doing. I really don’t want to get caught."

Jessica rolled her eyes. "He’s not a spy. I’ve done my research. The guy’s a junkie. He’s here for a fix, not to bust us. I made sure to only add people like him to the group chat."

Anabella, however, wasn’t convinced. "What if we get caught by the library workers? Doing this in the library seems risky. Wouldn’t the abandoned toilets be a better place?"

Jessica’s expression hardened. "Look, I know you’re not in this for the money, you just want to take down Louise, but I am. I need this. Trust me, no one’s going to suspect a thing as long as we stay calm."

Anabella frowned but said nothing more. She could only hope Jessica’s confidence wouldn’t get them all caught.
