Chapter 124: A Complex Tangle.

Panic set in as Racheal’s eyes darted around the room, searching desperately for an escape. But there was none. They were trapped.

"What are we going to do? We’re really trapped!" Racheal exclaimed, her eyes wide with terror. "This is why I didn’t want to do this. I knew something was going to go wrong."

Jessica’s face contorted in anger. "That teacher must have suspected something. We have to find another way out."

Racheal’s mind raced, her anxiety rising. "But how? The windows have bars. There’s no way we can escape through there, and the door won’t budge either."

Jessica narrowed her eyes, placing a hand on her chin as she thought hard. "Leave that to me. I’ve been in tighter spots before."

Racheal stood frozen, her heart sinking as she watched Jessica urgently search the room, her eyes scanning every inch.

"What the heck are you doing?" Racheal demanded after Jessica had been searching for over thirty minutes without success. "You’ve just been pacing around for ages."

"Can you just shut the hell up?!" Jessica snapped, her glare fierce. "You’re just standing there doing nothing, and you’ve still got the nerve to complain."

"Why should I help?!" Racheal shot back, glaring angrily. "I thought you said the door didn’t lock with a passcode until night time. Why did that woman lock us in here now, with a passcode?"

Jessica ignored her, continuing to search the room. Seeing this, Racheal stormed over to a chair and plopped down with a grumpy expression.

Just when it seemed like all hope was lost, Jessica let out a triumphant cry. "I found it!"

She had discovered a small ventilation shaft, partially hidden behind a row of filing cabinets. It was their only chance.

"Come on," Jessica whispered, already climbing into the shaft. "We have to move fast before that woman comes back."

"But..

"But what? You don’t wanna climb? It’s like you’re ready to get caught." Jessica voiced out with anger etched in her voice. "You better climb here now before it’s too late. I don’t even have time for your nonsense."

Racheal hesitated, her fear of tight spaces threatening to overwhelm her. But Jessica’s urgency and the fear of being caught forced her to squeeze into the shaft. Her heart pounded in her chest as the darkness closed in around her, the air thick with dust.

"This really isn’t a good idea," Racheal murmured to herself, coughing violently as the dust irritated her throat.

"Keep your voice down," Jessica warned, her tone sharp. "Unless you really want to get caught. We’ll be out soon, just keep moving."

As they crawled through the narrow passage, Racheal’s panic worsened. Her mind raced, her breaths becoming shallower. She had always hated the dark, and now it felt like she was suffocating in it. Her dizziness grew, but she forced herself to keep moving, determined not to pass out.

After what seems like forever, they finally reached the end of the shaft and dropped down into the school ground. They were at the back of the school building, far from prying eyes.

Jessica grinned, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "We did it. Now let’s get out of here before anyone notices."

Racheal nodded, but before she could take a step, the dizziness overcame her, and she collapsed. Everything went black.

"Racheal!!!" Jessica’s voice echoed in her fading consciousness.

_______________

Racheal’s eyelids flickered open, and the first thing she saw was Henry sitting beside her, squeezing a towel from a bowl of water and placing it gently on her forehead.

"You’re awake!" Henry exclaimed, his once-worried expression now replaced with relief the moment his gaze fell on Racheal. He then helped her sit up. "You scared the hell out of us."

Racheal glanced around, realizing she was back in her dorm room. "What are you doing here?" she asked, massaging her forehead in an attempt to relieve the headache pounding behind her eyes.

"Jessica called me. She said you fainted. I ran over and carried you on my back to your dorm," Henry explained with a wide smile.

"She called you?" Racheal’s voice rose, startling Henry. "Where is she now?"

"Oh... she went to get some medicine for you outside the school. She didn’t want the clinic’s medicine, and she insisted I not take you there either. She was pretty adamant about it," Henry replied, frustration creeping into his tone. "By the way, have you two always been this close? I mean, she even climbed the school fence to get your medicine."

"We’re not that close. She just cares because I fainted in front of her. It’s... normal, I guess," Racheal replied.

"How are you feeling now though? You look so weak." Henry asked, concern etched in his tone as he stare at Racheal.

"I’m good. Just still weak like you’ve said but I’ll be fine." Racheal replied witt a heavy sigh.

The door to the dorm suddenly swung open, and Jessica entered, her face lighting up the moment she saw Racheal awake.

"Thank goodness you’re finally awake, girl!" Jessica exclaimed, moving toward Racheal. "You scared the hell out of me."

"Thanks to you and Henry," Racheal replied with a forced smile."And I’m sorry about stressing you guys."

"No you didn’t stress me." Henry replied. "By the way, what are you both doing at the back of the school building?"

"Just taking a walk of course. I was just too weak and tired hence I fainted. I’ve always been weak since childhood." Racheal replied, as she swallowed hard.

"Alright, Henry," Jessica who was already getting annoyed with Henry’s question interjected, her tone firm. "Thanks for your help, but it’s time for you to go back to class. This is the girls’ dorm, and you can’t be caught staying here."

"Huh? I have to wait until she takes her medicine and starts to relax," Henry protested, his expression determined.

"That’s not necessary," Jessica said sharply. "I’ll take care of her. You need to get back to class before you get Racheal and me in trouble. We really appreciate your help but you really have to go now."

"Yes, Henry," Racheal who was already getting irritated said. "You should go. Thanks for bringing me here."

"You’re sending me away too... why?" Henry’s brows furrowed, hurt flashing in his eyes. "I wasn’t expecting you to say that. Do you think I’m scared of getting caught? If I was, I wouldn’t have carried you here in the first place."

"Whatever it is but I really don’t understand you? Why did you decide to help me when Jessica called you? You should have rejected?" Racheal interrupted, standing up to face him. "I had hurt you Henry. You should be pushing me away, not the other way around. Or are you thinking that I love you hence the reason why you’re being this kind? I just wanted to sleep with you then, and you agreed. You shouldn’t care about me because I don’t love you. My decision not to let Michael kill you too then wasn’t because I love you. I believe you know that or don’t you?"

Henry’s mouth opened in shock, but before he could speak, Racheal continued, her voice growing colder. "Of course you know but you’re just behaving like a fool and some kind gentleman. You should stay away from me because I had tried to kill you before who knows if I might try again."

"What?!"

"Yes, Henry. You want the truth? I’m wasn’t interested in you from the onset, just wanted to use you. Are you still clinging to me because I’m some rich girl, or is it that you still want to sleep with me? Is that it?" She glared, her voice cutting through the air. "Well, you’re nothing to me. I’ll only use you and hurt you again if you refuse to stay away from me."

Henry stood there, words failing him. He felt like an idiot. He wanted to forget the past and be by her side, not caring about what she had done to him before. Wanted to help her move past Michael’s death but she doesn’t even want to have anything to do with her.

"Fine," he said, his voice hollow. "I’ll leave." Without another word, he walked out the door, closing it behind him.

As soon as Henry was gone, Racheal spun around to face Jessica. "And you! Have you lost your mind? How could you call Henry?"

"Why shouldn’t I?" Jessica smirked. "The guy is head over heels for you. I called him because he could help carry you, and he did. He’s a sweet little darling, isn’t he?"

"You told me to stay away from him!" Racheal snapped, her body tense with anger. "But you still called him when I was in trouble. I don’t want him involved, not with me or this drug business. Especially not Henry." She yelled.

You better calm down, or you might hurt the baby," Jessica warned, her tone dripping with mock concern. "You might actually miscarry before you even get to see a doctor."

"That would be considered a blessing!" Racheal screamed, storming toward her bed.

Meanwhile, Henry, who had been resting against the door, overheard everything. Shockwaves ran through his body as he muttered under his breath, "Drugs? Baby?" His eyes widened in disbelief.
