Chapter 121: Road To Ruin.
Chapter 121: Road To Ruin.
Racheal made her way to Jessica’s hostel, her heart pounding with curiosity about the mysterious job Jessica had mentioned, a job that promised to earn her some much-needed money. The dorm hallway buzzed with activity, filled with female students going about their business, some laughing, chatting, or hurrying to and from their rooms. After asking for directions from several students, Racheal finally located Jessica’s dorm.
Knock... knock... knock.
The door opened almost immediately, as if Jessica had been expecting her. Racheal stepped inside, her heart heavy with anticipation.
The dorm room was painted in a soft shade of blue, its walls decorated with posters of celebrities and musicians. Two beds occupied the space, one clearly belonging to Jessica, while the other belonged to her absent roommate.
Jessica closed the door and turned to face Racheal, lighting a cigarette with a casual flick of her wrist. She took a long drag and blew out a cloud of smoke, causing Racheal to cough involuntarily.
"Can you stop smoking? My nose feels irritated," Racheal complained, waving the smoke away from her face. To her surprise, Jessica complied without argument, putting out the cigarette with a smirk before walking over to her bed and sitting down.
"I’m here now," Racheal said, her voice laced with impatience. "So, what’s this business you mentioned?"
Jessica smirked again, leaning back on her bed. "Take a seat first," she offered, her tone dripping with amusement. "You don’t want to stand through the whole conversation, do you?"
Racheal crossed her arms, clearly not in the mood for games. "I’m fine standing. Just tell me what this is all about. You said I could make money. I’m listening."
Jessica raised an eyebrow, her smirk deepening. "If you’re not going to sit down, then forget about it," she said coolly. "We’ve only got fifteen minutes, and five are already gone. If you want to waste the remaining ten minutes being stubborn, I’ll just throw you out. No hard feelings." Her voice took on a sharp edge, her eyes narrowing dangerously.
Racheal hesitated, then sighed, quickly taking a seat. "Fine. I’m sitting. Now tell me."
Instead of answering, Jessica stood up and walked over to a small fridge in the corner of the room. She pulled out a cold bottle of water and handed it to Racheal, who took it reluctantly.
"Can you drop the fake nice act? We both know that’s not you," Racheal said, her voice tinged with frustration as she rubbed her forehead. "Just tell me what I came here to know so we can get this over with."
Jessica chuckled softly and took her seat again. "Just drink some water. You’ll want to be calm and collected before I tell you what’s going on."
Sighing in exasperation, Racheal opened the bottle and drank until half of it was gone. She put the cap back on and looked at Jessica. "Alright, I’ve had the water. Now talk."
Jessica’s expression shifted, growing serious. "It’s a new product I haven’t introduced to this school yet," she began, her voice low and calculating. "Hard drugs. Coke, to be precise."
"What?!" Racheal’s eyes widened in shock as she bolted upright, her body tense with disbelief. "You want me to sell drugs? On school grounds? Is that your brilliant money-making idea? By ruining people’s lives?"
Jessica didn’t flinch. She leaned back, her smirk returning. "Why are you acting so shocked? You didn’t seem this horrified when you killed someone," she said with an icy calmness. "Yeah, you’re going to sell drugs unless you want to go to prison, that is."
"I’m not going to sell drugs," Racheal said, shaking her head in disbelief. "This is insane. You’re trying to destroy people’s lives."
Jessica’s expression darkened, her eyes glinting with malice. "Oh, you’re not? Well, let me remind you of something. I have the recording of your little chat with Henry in the garden. You remember? The one where you talked about Michael’s death. If you keep refusing, I’ll send it straight to the authorities. You’ll end up in prison, Racheal, where you’ll give birth to that baby in your belly. And guess what? The government will take the child away from you. You’ll never even get to hold them."
Racheal’s face crumpled as tears welled up in her eyes. "I don’t want to go to prison, and I don’t want to sell drugs! Why are you doing this to me? Michael’s death was an accident... I didn’t mean for it to happen."
Jessica leaned forward, her voice hard. "I don’t care about your tears, Racheal. You’ve got two options: prison or selling drugs. Pick one. You’ve got about five minutes left to decide."
Racheal buried her face in her hands, weeping bitterly. She felt trapped, with no way out of the nightmare that had consumed her life. After a few agonizing moments, she looked up at Jessica with tear-filled eyes. "Fine. I’ll do it. But how?"
A triumphant smirk spread across Jessica’s face. "Smart girl. We’re going to do this together. First, we gather student information, copying their numbers. Once we have enough, we’ll create a WhatsApp group. We’ll advertise the product anonymously there. The students who are interested will message us privately, and we’ll add them to a separate group for orders."
Racheal scoffed, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. "That sounds like a terrible plan. It’s not like every student is going to be interested. Some will report the group to the school, and they’ll track us down. This isn’t some random school you’ve pulled this in before, this is Belmont. They’ll catch us."
Jessica shook her head, crossing her arms over her chest. "You’re underestimating how many students are into drugs here. Trust me. And don’t worry about the group being taken down. We’ll set it up so that interested students will message us privately, and we’ll add them to another group. It’ll be much harder to trace."
Racheal swallowed hard, feeling a pit form in her stomach. She didn’t want to be a part of this, but the threat hanging over her head left her no choice. She needed the money, and more than that, she needed to avoid prison. "I guess you’ve thought this through," she muttered. "Fine. I’m in."
Jessica laughed, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "You’re not as dumb as you look, after all," she sneered. "Good. It’s a deal then. And remember, you can’t tell anyone about this, not even your so-called friends. Oh, and stay away from Henry."
"Stay away from him?" Racheal echoed, her voice hollow. "He’s already staying away from me."
"Good. Keep it that way," Jessica replied, standing up and walking towards the door. "Now get out of here. My roommate will be back any minute."
Racheal stood up, her legs feeling shaky beneath her. She made her way toward the door, her mind swirling with dread.
"I’ll send you the details on when we’ll start. Keep your phone close," Jessica said, stopping her halfway. "And stay safe, Racheal. You wouldn’t want to make any mistakes now."
Racheal nodded silently before walking out of the room, her heart heavy with what she had just agreed to.
