Chapter 50: Chapter 49 Jiang An Is Injured
The next day, in the month of November, Jing City had already entered the autumn season. It was not until Jiang An returned to school that she discovered the two large trees by the school gate had been stripped bare by the autumn breeze overnight, their leaves dancing like butterflies and blanketing the ground.
As soon as the girl entered the dorm, she was grabbed by Xia Zi, who had hurriedly gotten out of bed, clamoring to join the excitement and watch the celebrity. It was only when she was groggily dragged to the sports field that she found it was packed with people, making it impenetrable. About a dozen security guards were dressed in uniforms and had drawn a cordon outside the field. Several cameras were set up in the center of the field, and the majority of students were taking photos with their mobile phones. Jiang An was pulled by Xia Zi, squeezing through the crowd to the front and finally saw clearly that a group was filming on the field. Xia Zi, standing beside her, was recording the whole time with her phone, her excitement at seeing the celebrities was unmistakable.
The autumn sun was tender and not harsh; its pure white light pierced her eyes. Hearing the constant calls of "Ji Wanwan" from the surrounding crowd, Jiang An squinted and only then could she see that the person in the pink schoolgirl outfit in the center of the field was indeed Ji Wanwan, whom she had seen at the Gao Family a few days earlier. She realized that the rumors she had heard in the morning about filming at school were about her.
Ji Wanwan could be said to be the hottest young actress of the season, with a rather sizable fan base. Now that she was filming at school, naturally, she attracted a lot of onlookers. Jiang An looked around and saw that some fans had even put up support banners. It seemed the director’s team had not anticipated such a large crowd, and for a moment, they were unable to control the scene. Several security uncles stood within the cordon, using their bodies to block the continuously gathering crowd. The noise of the crowd seemingly delayed the filming process. Jiang An’s gaze followed the crowd around Ji Wanwan. The woman was naturally beautiful, and even in her late twenties, she didn’t look out of place in a school uniform. Her eyes were like water, and even with just a touch of light makeup, she couldn’t hide her stunning beauty. Fitting of her title as the National Goddess, Jiang An thought to herself, slowly beginning to imagine how Gao Yu managed to win over Ji Wanwan.
Xia Zi was immersed in filming, and soon the two were scattered by the bustling crowd. Jiang An was jostled by the crowd until she reached the very front. Whether it was an illusion or not, Ji Wanwan, who was filming, seemed to be looking right at her. Just as she was feeling embarrassed and looked down, she accidentally bumped into a man next to her. When Jiang An looked up to apologize, she saw a middle-aged man in a black duckbill hat was the one she had stepped on. Wearing black sportswear, he was tall and slender with a scruffy beard on his chin, staring at her with a gloomy face, not resembling a student from the school. Jiang An blurted out an "I’m sorry" and turned away, trying to find Xia Zi in the crowd.
Scanning around, Jiang An’s eyes inadvertently glanced at the man she had bumped into and suddenly caught a glimpse of the glaring blade hidden in his sleeve. As she was in shock, she saw the man violently thrust the knife into the chest of a security guard who was trying to maintain order in front of them. The guard cried out "Ah!" and blood began to gush from his chest. The crowd, unaware of what had happened, continued its noise, and Jiang An, witnessing everything, saw the murderer’s knife stained with blood and realized he was targeting Ji Wanwan not far away. Without thinking, she rushed forward to try to stop him. Virtually powerless, Jiang An moved quickly to grab the knife from the attacker’s hand but missed and was dodged by the man, who then turned his fierce gaze back onto her.
"There’s a sasaeng fan here!" screamed Jiang An, her voice drowned out by the crowd until the security guard fell to the ground and adjacent security personnel finally realized and hurriedly picked up their weapons and came over. Fearing the attacker would harm others if he continued, Jiang An took the opportunity, while his attention was diverted, to try to take the knife again. The crowd’s attention had now shifted to the scene, and they all stepped back. Xia Zi, standing not too far away, shouted in loud surprise when she noticed it was Jiang An rushing forward, "Anan!"
The director’s team noticed the commotion in the crowd, and the staff hurried over to help. Hearing that there was a sasaeng fan, one or two bodyguards hurried to Ji Wanwan’s side to protect her closely. Jiang An successfully wrestled away the knife, and in that heart-stopping moment, the girl tightly clutched the dagger in her hand. Her fair palms were continuously seeping blood, dripping incessantly to the ground, while she looked at her blood-soaked hands, seemingly numb.
The assailant was quickly subdued by onsite security personnel, the vicious man glared at Jiang An, bellowing discontentedly, "Ji Wanwan, Ji Wanwan is my wife, she’s mine."
Jiang An turned to meet his gaze and was suddenly overwhelmed by fear, the knife in her hand falling powerless, until Xia Zi burst from the crowd and exclaimed in shock upon seeing her bleeding hands, "Anan..."
Among the crowd, many people were covering their mouths, whispering to each other. Ji Wanwan, placed in the RV by the directing team, looked through the window at the noisy crowd, listening to her manager belatedly hit his chest in complaint, "Filming on location is just dangerous. If it hadn’t been discovered in time, who knows what chaos could have ensued."
Listening to her manager’s grumbles, Ji Wanwan’s gaze shifted to the window, watching a blue figure being helped by others. She heard people say a female student had discovered the danger in time to prevent a tragedy. Recalling the Jiang An she had seen while filming, her heart clenched, and she suddenly sat up from her seat, anxiously inquiring, "Is that female student named Jiang An?"
The manager was poking his head out, trying to get information from the crew outside, when he suddenly heard Ji Wanwan asking this and turned his head, "Why? Do you know her?"
Ji Wanwan sat up straight, her tone rushed, "Is her name Jiang An?"
The manager, seeing her so interested in a stranger for the first time, turned to ask the crew, "It’s not clear yet; the student was just taken to the school infirmary. The crew will send someone to visit."
"Can I go and see her?" Ji Wanwan felt more and more that her intuition was right and asked directly.
The manager looked at the chaotic playground and said, "Forget it, miss. We’ve still got to rush to group B to shoot. This has already delayed our schedule..."
The manager muttered a string of wishes which the woman hardly took in, commanding, "Send someone later to ask for that student’s name."
Knowing Ji Wanwan’s temper, the manager by her side immediately sent someone to inquire about the situation. Soon after, they came back to inform Ji Wanwan that indeed, a student named Jiang An was the first to notice sasaeng fans; one of the security guards had been stabbed and had been taken to emergency, and the female student had been taken to the hospital for treatment due to a knife wound.
"What’s wrong?" The manager looked curiously at Ji Wanwan’s startled expression after hearing the news.
Although she had anticipated the answer, Ji Wanwan still couldn’t help but be shocked when she heard the girl really was Jiang An. The scene of their first encounter at the Gao Family’s household emerged in her mind; her eyes slightly unfocused, she pondered and said softly, "It’s nothing."
