Chapter 234: Jiang An’s Uncle

The next day, Gao Chuan woke up alone in the hotel room, still finding the events of the last night amusingly inexplicable.

He could never have imagined that he would be thwarted by his own mother twice.

Secretary Chen entered the room with breakfast he had bought, finding the man already dressed neatly, and went straight to asking about Jiang An.

"I arranged for someone to take Miss Jiang home last night," Secretary Chen reported.

Remembering last night’s incident, he tentatively informed Gao Chuan, "I’ve already sent someone to investigate the drugging incident."

Upon hearing this, Gao Chuan’s gaze turned sharp, and he ordered in a low voice, "No need."

The culprit was already obvious.

The secretary seemed to want to ask something more but was directly cut off, "Do I have any schedule today?"

"You have two meetings this morning that require your attendance, and there is a gathering hosted by President Gu in the afternoon."

Listening to the report from the person beside him, Gao Chuan rubbed his temples and barely took a few bites of his food before getting up and going downstairs.

If he could finish early today, he planned to go back and see Jiang An sooner—the man quietly made his calculations.

Seeing that the day Wei Yan had mentioned about meeting her uncle was approaching, Jiang An requested a half-day leave from the hospital, and was driven by Wei Yan’s driver to the arranged meeting place.

Wei Yan, who was already seated, saw Jiang An hesitating at the door, stood up, and waved at her. Jiang An quickened her steps towards the silhouette of the man. As she approached, she saw another man sitting opposite Wei Yan also stand up.

After seeing the man’s face clearly, a look of astonishment flashed across Jiang An’s face as she blurted out, "It’s you?"

The man who had "hit on" her last night at Gao Lin’s birthday banquet.

The man also appeared surprised and asked with a somewhat trembling voice, "You’re Jiang An?"

He had attended the Gao Family’s party as a guest yesterday and happened to find Jiang An resembling his sister. On impulse, he followed her out, but ended up scaring the young lady away before he could say much. It turned out she was indeed his niece.

Jiang An also realized why the man had said she looked like someone he used to know.

Wei Yan, also confused to see that the two knew each other, laughed heartily after hearing Jiang An’s explanation of the mix-up and formally introduced the man.

"Anan, this is your uncle, Fang Ping."

Jiang An then studied the man in front of her—dressed in a sharp suit, with handsome features that were kind. Upon closer inspection, his eyes and brows indeed resembled her mother’s.

Fang Ping, seeing her, couldn’t help but get teary-eyed. After realizing his emotional display, he became visibly uncomfortable, quickly gesturing for Jiang An to sit, and awkwardly handed her a bag.

"This is a gift from your uncle upon meeting you." His gaze never left her; his face brimming with the joy and excitement of finding Jiang An.

Jiang An accepted the gift with a slight surprise, politely saying "Thank you."

Wei Yan explained to her that Fang Ping had been searching for her and her mother all these years but the Fang Family had always been opposed, leading to the lack of information about them.

"When you were little, I held you, just so big. Never thought so many years would pass, and you’ve grown into a young lady," Fang Ping recalled emotionally, his eyes filling with tears.

Jiang An, sensing Fang Ping’s emotions, kindly passed him a tissue. Watching the man well over fifty cover his face and cry, she heard him say, "You really do look like your mother!"

Through conversation with her uncle, Jiang An learned of the truth buried by her mother for many years.

Fang Qing had been the prized daughter of the Fang family, renowned for her graces. She fell in love with Jiang An’s father, who was serving in the military, and their marriage was vehemently opposed by the family. When Jiang An’s grandfather found out that Fang Qing wanted to marry a poor, nameless boy, he flew into a rage. Under the old man’s relentless pressure, Fang Qing chose to elope.

The grandfather never accepted their marriage. Later, after discovering the birth of Jiang An, he tried to persuade Fang Qing to divorce and leave with the child. Unexpectedly, Fang Qing left the city with Jiang An, and from then on the Fang Family lost track of the mother and daughter.

"It was tough for your mother. We didn’t get to meet before she passed away," said Fang Ping as he choked up, talking about Fang Qing’s death.

"But thankfully we found you, Child. You’ve suffered. From now on, your uncle will take good care of you." Fang Ping took Jiang An’s hand, his eyes brimming with tears, and every word seemed insufficient in expressing his feelings.

He vowed to make up to Jiang An all the regrets he once held towards his sister.

Jiang An couldn’t help but tear up, recalling the years she and her mother had depended on each other, feeling an unstoppable bitterness in her heart.

In the moment she embraced her uncle, the shadowy days of the past seemed to evaporate, leaving only the joy of their meeting.

At the age of twenty-eight, she finally had a family.

Wei Yan left midway, not wanting to disturb their reunion, leaving Jiang An and her uncle to talk for a long time in the restaurant. She listened to the man talk about Fang Qing’s youth, and their search for her and Fang Qing over the years.

Jiang An also learned about the current situation of the Fang Family—her grandfather was already eighty years old but still remarkably spry, and Fang Ping had a son who had just started university. They were all waiting at home for Jiang An to return and reunite the family.

Before they knew it, evening had fallen and their conversation grew warmer. However, as Fang Ping had business appointments later, he had to send Jiang An back first.

Jiang An was saying goodbye to the man at the entrance of the restaurant when the scene of their farewell hug was unexpectedly captured by Gao Chuan, who had just arrived for the gathering. He approached them directly, ignoring the people following him.

Fang Ping saw Gao Chuan and greeted him with a smile, "President Gao, what a coincidence."

Jiang An, noticing Gao Chuan who had walked up to her, was taken aback, suddenly remembering the events of the previous day, and a blush crept onto her face.

Unaware of their acquaintance, Fang Ping introduced Jiang An to Gao Chuan, "President Gao, this is the niece I told you I was looking for in Jing City, Jiang An."

Listening to the man’s words, Gao Chuan stood there, stunned.

Fang Ping was a longtime business partner of the Gao Group. They had just discussed business a few days ago, and he had heard vague mentions of the man coming to find relatives, but Gao Chuan never imagined that his sought-after niece would be Jiang An.

While Gao Chuan lingered in shock, Fang Ping noticed their expressions were wrong and looked puzzled.

It was then that Jiang An timidly said beside him, "Uncle, we know each other."

"He is my... ex-husband."
