Chapter 225: Chapter 221: Overreaching Oneself

Chapter 221 Outsmarting Herself

Jiang An was dragged all the way out of the art exhibition by the person in front of her, and it wasn’t until she finally came to her senses that she tried to forcefully shake off the man’s hand but was still harshly pulled along.

"Dr. Gao, let me go!" she called out softly from behind.

Her faint voice fell into his ears, but Gao Chuan showed no sign of stopping. Ignoring the gazes of people around him, he pulled her straight to a deserted corner outside the venue.

He himself didn’t know what kind of emotions drove him to chase Jiang An here. Just now, when he saw Jiang An gazing from afar at the man being interviewed in the crowd, he almost couldn’t suppress the fury in his heart and dashed over in an arrow step.

"Dr. Gao, let me go, you’re hurting me!" Forced to keep up with the man’s rapid pace, Jiang An’s wrist was already sore from being yanked.

For a moment, she didn’t know what to feel. In theory, Gu Yi was her arranged date, and seeing him with another woman, she should feel upset, yet the emotions that should have come didn’t appear. At that moment, she only stood there stunned, her mind blank, never expecting Gao Chuan to suddenly rush over and pull her away from the crowd.

It wasn’t long before the man finally stopped, released Jiang An’s reddened wrist, and forcefully backed her against the cold wall behind her. His dark pupils emitted a chilling sharpness, and without discerning right from wrong, he bellowed at her: "Jiang An, are you stupid? What are you still standing there for?"

Jiang An was still looking down at the spot that Gao Chuan had reddened, and when she heard the words that spilled from the man’s thin lips, she suddenly raised her head and met his fierce gaze, and for some reason the emotions that had been missing earlier suddenly choked her chest.

"Yes, I am stupid. Are you satisfied seeing me being played by someone else?" Jiang An fearlessly met the man’s penetrating gaze, confronting him without showing any weakness.

Gao Chuan looked down at the woman’s resistant demeanor, his hands gripping Jiang An’s frail shoulders, and the jealousy that had been accumulating over the past few days broke through the last line of defense as he coldly questioned: "Is that how much you want to leave me to find another man?"

Jiang An paused for a moment, looking at the fierce expression on the man’s face, feeling as if her heart had been shot, her eyes beginning to redden, stubbornly wanting to look up and say "yes."

Before she could finish, the towering Gao Chuan directly bent over and captured her soft lips, like a mountain pressing down, the kiss abruptly stealing her fiery breath.

Their breath quickly tangled wildly, mixed with the familiar scent of sandalwood from the man enveloping her. Jiang An, coming to her senses, desperately slapped at the man’s chest in front of her, but the more she resisted, the more ferocious his onslaught became.

For a whole four years, his longing for her seemed to be all poured into this deep kiss.

Who knows how many times he’d woken up from his dreams in the middle of the night, crazily imagining her lying beside him, day after day missing her taste.

Only when he saw the clear tear stains on the woman’s cheeks did the man regain his sanity, reluctantly leaving Jiang An’s crimson lips, realizing that the person in his arms was softly sobbing, his heart ached wanting to reach out and wipe the tears from the corner of her eyes, but before he could lift his hand, the woman suddenly slapped him across the face.

The sound of the slap echoed in both their ears, Gao Chuan not caring about his burning cheek, stood there dumbfounded.

"Enough, how do I have to say it for you to understand, we are already divorced." Jiang An looked up at the man with half of his cheek reddened, her voice hoarse.

"What else can you do besides forcing me?" The woman reached up to touch her lips, sore from the man’s kiss, her angry motion as if trying to vigorously wipe away the mark he left.

If Jiang An’s tears were not enough to bring Gao Chuan back to his senses, the slap certainly returned his reason.

The man slowly turned his head, looking at Jiang An who was tearfully beautiful in front of him, and suddenly felt remorse.

As he watched Jiang An step to pass by him, Mr. Gao’s throat tightened and he barely opened his lips: "Jiang An, I regret it, let’s remarry!"

He regretted it.

He regretted letting her go four years ago, regretted divorcing her back then. He wished he could tie her to his side and never let go for the rest of his life, so that no other man would get the opportunity.

Jiang An heard the indifferent voice of a man coming from behind her, stopped in her tracks, and a tear silently traced down her cheek, moistening the snow-white neck of the woman.

She stood still and did not turn around to look at him, her lips slightly upturned in a semblance of a smile, her face cold as she said, "Dr. Gao, you’re still so presumptuous."

Four years had passed, and he was still just as presumptuous.

He presumed Jiang An would put aside past grievances and obediently return to his side, presumed that a simple phrase would restore their relationship as if nothing had happened.

Little did he know that the once naive girl would no longer be foolishly swept off her feet into his home by his simple proposal "Let’s get married."

Gao Chuan stood rigid, watching the woman leave once again, clenching his fists quietly.

It seemed that he had, yet again, outsmarted himself.

Jiang An held her emotions back as she made her way downstairs, only releasing a sigh of relief once she was out of the man’s sight.

She had thought that her marriage to Gao Chuan was only nominal and that time would gradually wash everything away, but she did not anticipate that Gao Chuan would persistently entangle her.

The suffocating feeling of being forcefully kissed by him still gave her a fright.

Jiang An walked alone on the street for a while, finally calming her emotions, flagged down a taxi on the roadside intending to go home. She never expected her eagerly anticipated morning date would turn out to be so awful.

When the taxi arrived at the apartment, Jiang An got out and saw Gu Yi, who had been waiting for her downstairs early.

She had walked in such haste that she had forgotten to greet him, but given what happened today, there was probably no need to pursue things further with him.

After all, she didn’t like him either.

"Jiang An, listen to my explanation, that arranged marriage... I did not agree to it..." Gu Yi rushed over to explain as he saw her return.

Jiang An no longer had the energy to deal with these things and directly told him there was no need to continue any further.

Besides, since they hadn’t made their relationship official, such an ending was dignified enough.

"Jiang An, I really like you and I hope you can be my girlfriend," the man was still trying to hold onto her.

Jiang An waved her hand dismissively and said directly, "But I don’t like you, Mr. Gu. Affection should be mutual. I don’t think we’re suitable for each other, so please stop insisting."

The man finally gave up his persistence, and Jiang An finally felt a weight lifted off her shoulders as she went upstairs. She first poured herself a glass of water to drink.

She held her breath, tipped her head back, and gulped down the water in the glass in one go, then tilted her head upward and fervently fanned her sore eyes, lucky that the tears did not fall.
