Chapter 198: Chapter 194: Can’t Escape
Chapter 194 Inevitable Escape
She thought she couldn’t escape. — Xicheng Tears
Jiang An didn’t know how she managed to walk out of the room, feeling as if there were knives under her feet, stabbing her painfully with every step.
Fortunately, Dr. Gao did not follow her.
The girl frantically entered the elevator, and the moment the doors closed, her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor in disarray.
It turned out that saying those words herself was such an excruciating feeling.
She raised her hand to cover her mouth, forcefully holding back her tears, feeling as though she was suffocating deep underwater.
She remembered the scene when she first moved here, fearing to delay Dr. Gao’s work, she braved the rain and waited almost two hours.
That day, she saw the man who arrived late as the only ray of sunshine in the wavering rain.
Jiang An slowly walked out of the residential area, pulling her suitcase. The afternoon sun scattered lazily on her, casting a faint glow.
Wei Yan was standing by the car waiting for her, getting anxious as she hadn’t come out for a while, but he finally breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Jiang An approaching.
He stepped forward to take her suitcase, asking her how her packing went.
"Almost done," the girl replied softly.
It was somewhat ridiculous to say but, over the course of her marriage with Dr. Gao, what she packed now was still the same things she had when she first arrived.
During that time, the Gao Family gave her many gifts, and even a bracelet that grandma passed down to her which she left all behind.
They weren’t hers, so naturally, she wouldn’t take them.
Wei Yan helped her put the suitcase in the trunk, then Jiang An walked around to the other side and got into the car.
"If you don’t mind, you can stay at my place, I just finished renovating it," Wei Yan started the car and turned to look at Jiang An, whose complexion was still not very rosy. He added, worried she would feel inconvenient, "I’m usually busy at the company and rarely stay there."
Not surprisingly, she declined. These days she had been in the hospital were already enough of a bother for Wei Yan, and it just wouldn’t be proper to stay over longer.
Wei Yan did not insist further. He glanced at the silent Jiang An, and asked solemnly, "When do you plan to ask Gao Chuan for a divorce?"
Originally, with his impulsive temper, upon learning of Jiang An’s miscarriage, he wanted to confront Gao Chuan immediately and beat him up, but Jiang An insisted on resolving her own matters without his interference, so he had no choice but to let it go.
Just thinking about how the girl he cared deeply for was tortured to this extent enraged him.
That man had once repeatedly promised to stay by Jiang An’s side through thick and thin, yet he kept hurting her again and again.
This score, he would settle with Gao Chuan sooner or later.
Jiang An did not think about hiding it from Wei Yan and frankly said, "I just met him and have already said it."
The man driving was startled, then turned his head noticing the redness on the girl’s lips, and raised his voice, "Did that bastard bother you?"
"No."
"If he dares to bully you, I..." Wei Yan’s eyes blazed with anger, about to speak harshly but was interrupted by Jiang An. She quietly lowered her head and calmly said, "No, he didn’t bother me."
Wei Yan caught a glimpse of the girl, sighed softly, and after a few seconds of silence, he continued to show his concern, "Do you really not need my help with the divorce?"
Jiang An had already turned her gaze aside, knowing Wei Yan feared for her being disadvantaged, but the matters between her and Dr. Gao were not something that could be explained in just a few words.
"No need, I can handle it myself." Jiang An looked out of the window at the rapidly receding landscape, decisively speaking.

Late at night, the bar.
Under the dim lights, the dance floor was noisy with crowds, and the loud music was deafening.
In a dark corner, a man sat on the sofa silently playing with the whiskey glass in his hand, his dark eyes revealing a deep chill.
Song Li, who had just come back from the dance floor, saw Gao Chuan sitting in the corner drinking sullenly and knew that the man was definitely in a bad mood today. He walked over and clinked glasses with him, the simple contact of the two glasses made the dim and sparkling liquid seem to shine slightly.
"What’s going on? You just got back from a business trip and you asked me out for drinks?" Song Li looked at the man before him with sharp eyes, probing.
Gao Chuan, upon hearing this, didn’t say anything and raised his head to finish the brandy in his glass in one gulp.
The man’s Adam’s apple moved, the cool liquid sliding down his throat, but his lips and teeth were overwhelmed with a wave of bitterness.
Song Li, already used to Gao Chuan’s silent behavior, continued to sit with him on the sofa. Suddenly remembering something, he turned his head and asked, "What exactly happened when you and Song Xin went on the business trip? She came back today and locked herself in her room crying, and she wouldn’t tell me when I asked."
The man beside him heard this and before Song Li could finish, he grabbed the glass and slammed it heavily on the table, making a loud "bang," which really startled Song Li.
"Don’t fucking mention her to me." The man rarely swore, his brow furrowed tightly as he spoke about Song Xin.
Seeing this, Song Li, displeased, slapped the table and stood up, defending, "Gao, why are you so angry? I was going to ask you what you did to my sister!"
Song Xin had always been infatuated with Gao Chuan, Song Li knew it well, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t stand by his sister’s side.
Gao Chuan listened to Song Li’s angry voice, holding the cold glass without saying a word, his expression indiscernible in the dim light.
"I came here to drink with you in good faith in the middle of the night, not to watch you sulk," Song Li slightly calmed down and sat back, complaining about Gao Chuan’s attitude.
As he spoke, the man lifted his hand and took another big gulp of his drink, then after a long while, he said in a deep voice, "Jiang An wants to divorce me."
The events of the afternoon still seemed like a delusion to him; the girl’s scream still echoed in his mind. He had thought the previous incident was just a minor quarrel between them, and even if he apologized to Jiang An first, they would reconcile as before.
But he never expected things to have gone this far.
The man’s cold voice mixed with the noisy music settled beside his ears, Song Li was momentarily stunned, turned his head to look at Gao Chuan still drinking, and blurted out, "Why? What happened between you two?"
Weren’t these two already in love with each other? Why would they still want to divorce?
Upon hearing the question, Gao Chuan furrowed his brows tightly, his stern face showing no emotion.
Why? He also wanted to know why.
If it was just because of the incident at the party last time, he thought it surely wouldn’t lead to divorce.
But the look of utter despair Jiang An showed at home seemed as if she was determined to leave him.
After three rounds of drinks, the man was slightly drunk, his expression weary as he leaned back on the sofa, his face flushed more than ever.
The image of Jiang An pushing him away appeared before his eyes again, stubbornly, decisively.
The man half-closed his eyes, the lights in front of him gradually blurring.
A frightened cat might scratch, but ultimately it can’t escape. Thinking this, he closed his eyes.
