Chapter 179: Like a Princess

The venue was bustling with people, almost all of whom were businessmen who collaborated with the Gao Family or well-known figures from friendly corporations. The auction segment was in full swing.

Beside her, Wanwan had been pestering Gao Yu to bid on jewelry for her. Jiang An, left out, sat silently on the side throughout, while another wealthy young lady beside her, noticing her solitary and quiet demeanor, struck up a conversation, asking about her identity as she had never seen her before.

Jiang An responded with a pleasant smile that she was a friend brought by Wanwan.

She did not explicitly state she was Mrs. Gao, as Wanwan had instructed.

It is worth noting that Gao Chuan had never mentioned such occasions to her before.

Perhaps he thought it was not yet time to make their marriage public.

After chatting briefly with the person beside her, Jiang An began to feel out of her depth. She knew nothing about the branded jewelry mentioned and nervously clutched at the corner of her dress.

Feeling exceedingly out of place, she excused herself mid-way through by saying she was going to the bathroom and quietly slipped out for some air after giving Wanwan a heads-up.

She probably was not well-suited for such settings; the suffocating scrutiny made her feel uncomfortable all over.

It was only then that she realized the vast gap between herself and Dr. Gao.

As Song Xin had said, they were simply not from the same world.

Gao Chuan was always a very low-key person. Since meeting him, he gave her the impression of being a good man with a stable job in a hospital and a decent family background. However, after learning about the vast business empire managed by the Gao Family, she felt increasingly insignificant.

It seemed neither her background nor her looks were sufficient to qualify her to stand by Dr. Gao’s side, whereas Song Xin, who had grown up with a silver spoon, could easily sit comfortably by a man’s side.

While lost in thought, Jiang An unconsciously walked outside and saw a music fountain not far away. She lifted her skirt and gracefully walked towards it.

A few lights were on behind her. The slender girl stood beside the fountain, a gentle evening breeze brushing through her hair, and she suddenly felt an indescribable comfort.

She relaxed considerably, but her thin dress made her feel a bit cold after awhile. Just as she was about to turn back, she suddenly heard a voice from behind her.

"Anan, is that really you?" Wei Yan’s voice reached her ears. Jiang An turned around and saw a man in a white suit, who had unknowingly approached her from behind, wearing a pale blue lapel pin, his thick eyebrows and deep eyelashes under the light, and his obsidian-like eyes resting on her.

"Brother Wei Yan," Jiang An called out in surprise as well.

Neither had expected to see the other here. They both explained their reasons for attending the auction; Wei Yan represented a company collaborating with Gao Group, and upon hearing that Jiang An was with a friend, he didn’t think much of it.

However, seeing Jiang An’s attire up close today took him by surprise as he had never seen her like this before, and for a moment, he was lost in thoughts.

It was as if he saw a real fairy.

After staring for a long time, he finally realized his gawking and blushed as he turned away his gaze, showing a rare shy demeanor in front of Jiang An, and stammered his compliment, "You... today... your dress looks very beautiful."

"Like a princess." The man reached up to scratch his head, avoiding the gaze Jiang An directed at him.

Such a beautiful Jiang An, how could he not be moved?

Jiang An listened to Wei Yan in front of her, speaking somewhat incoherently, and slightly curved her lips into a smile.

At this moment, neither of the chatting pair noticed a woman not far away staring intently at their every move. Song Xin, seeing clearly the looks of the two in the dim light, paused momentarily before continuing back to the auction.

She remembered the day the man swore he wouldn’t interfere with Jiang An, and couldn’t help but sneer derisively, realizing it was all just talk.

As soon as the woman sat down, she casually and naturally said to the man beside her: "I just saw Jiang An by the fountain earlier, just like you, enjoying a breath of fresh air, haha."

Gao Chuan, who was sitting there resting with his eyes closed, did not respond. He didn’t bid on a single item at the auction from start to finish tonight, and if it hadn’t been for Gao Yu’s constant reminders, he probably wouldn’t have attended.

However, unexpectedly, he encountered Jiang An here.

The man remained calm on the surface, but soon got up and left the scene, instructing Song Xin to tell Gao Yu later that he had something to take care of and had to leave first.

Song Xin nodded in agreement, watching the man’s departing figure, unsure whether to feel sad or happy.

Tonight, she hadn’t expected Jiang An to come either, but Gao Chuan’s lack of action towards Jiang An still kindled a glimmer of hope in her eyes.

Perhaps Gao Chuan never really had the intention of making Jiang An his publicly acknowledged wife, and maybe Jiang An’s uninvited presence tonight had irked him.

Gao Chuan walked out of the auction hall, took off his suit jacket, and went to the fountain spot mentioned by Song Xin.

Before he got close, he saw two figures by the fountain. The surrounding lights barely illuminated their outlines, and his face instantly darkened when he saw Jiang An with Wei Yan.

He saw Wei Yan seemingly talking to Jiang An with faintly audible whispers reaching Gao Chuan’s ears. The man across touched Jiang An’s cheek, and upon seeing this, a cold light flooded Gao Chuan’s dark eyes. He took his jacket and turned around to leave.

Wei Yan was recounting his recent visit to the girl’s hometown, mentioning many things familiar to Jiang An which suddenly piqued her interest. She suddenly remembered the last time she begged Wei Yan to bring her some local snacks, and couldn’t help but ask.

Wei Yan noticed she was still thinking about the little treats, looked at Jiang An who seemed to embody a greedy cat, tapped her forehead affectionately and replied, "Of course, I bought them all for you. I’ll have my assistant send them over tomorrow."

Upon hearing this, a smile spread across Jiang An’s face, and she excitedly said, "Brother Wei Yan, I really love you to death."

Before she could finish speaking, she sneezed. Seeing that Jiang An’s shoulders were exposed, Wei Yan immediately took off his jacket and draped it over Jiang An. Under the soft light, the distance between the two seemed to significantly close.

After Jiang An sneezed and looked up to see Wei Yan thoughtfully putting his jacket on her, her heart warmed.

The two continued to talk for a while, and Wei Yan, seeing that she had no desire to return to the auction, offered to take her home.

Jiang An, thinking that Dr. Gao had not paid any attention to her all evening, and Ji Wanwan being busy showing off her affection with Gao Yu wasn’t going to bother about her either, sent a message on her phone to Ji Wanwan and got into Wei Yan’s car.

Perhaps she lost to Song Xin tonight, the girl thought dejectedly.
