Chapter 171 She Knows What to Give

Early morning.

Sun rays subtly pierce through the clouds to reach the eyes of Gao Chuan, who is slowly opening his lazy eyes, lying in bed—a man who seldom sleeps in is rarely up at this hour.

Sitting up, he finds that the space beside him is already empty. Stretching, he scratches his messy hair while the lavish glow illuminates him, casting his picturesque brows and eyes with a serene yet profound look.

After a moment of clarity, he gets up from bed to wash up. Just as he’s finished squeezing out the toothpaste, he looks at his particularly weary reflection in the mirror and frowns, assuming Jiang An must have already left for the hospital.

While still brushing his teeth, he begins to hear a "humming" sound from somewhere and then feels a soft touch on his feet.

Lowering his gaze slightly, he sees the Labrador from last night energetically barking around his feet, boldly snuggling closer. Looking down, he sees the little fellow staring up at him with round eyes, perhaps wondering why Gao Chuan isn’t paying him any attention, then starts to nibble on Gao Chuan’s cotton slippers.

"Go away." Gao Chuan, like a pest, quickly moves his slippers aside and sternly commands the puppy.

However, the little Labrador doesn’t seem intimidated by the stern man and continues to bounce around joyfully.

As Gao Chuan bends down to wash his face, the bold little one starts licking his heels, making him feel a wet sensation, and after finishing washing his face, he squats down and picks up the pup.

Regardless of his scolding, the little Labrador keeps happily following him. Reluctantly, Gao Chuan walks to the dining table to find breakfast and a note left by Jiang An in the morning.

Jiang An: Dr. Gao, I’ve contacted the property management already. Please take care of the dog for one day, ha. I’ve put the dog food in the bottom cabinet of the kitchen.

PS: Get along well with the puppy! (-^〇^-)

Seeing the girl’s delicate handwriting, Gao Chuan suddenly smirks, turns his head to look at the still yapping little one at his feet, probably hungry by now. Following what Jiang An said, he goes to the kitchen and takes out the dog food.

Jiang An had just participated in a surgery this morning, and by the time it ended, it was noon. While rushing to have her meal, she sends a message to Gao Chuan, her mind occupied with thoughts of the man and dog at home.

Wondering if Dr. Gao could really take good care of the puppy, hoping he wouldn’t just neglect it at home.

Chewing on her rice, Jiang An is worried when she receives a message from Gao Chuan.

Gao Chuan: All is good, fed him.

Jiang An: Take a photo for me to see.

Just after sending the message, she receives a friend request that she opens and immediately accepts upon seeing it’s labeled as the dog’s owner.

Before she could message, the other party makes a voice call, explaining over the phone that the puppy is theirs, and they had inadvertently let it escape while they were away traveling. They’d go to pick up the puppy once they had landed and returned.

After arranging with the owner, Jiang An turns back and finds that Dr. Gao had indeed sent some photos a few minutes ago.

With a tap of her finger, she almost bursts into laughter at the photos.

There were three in total: one of the puppy eating, another showing the puppy biting a grey slipper, and the last one taken by Dr. Gao of his foot missing a slipper.

Dr. Gao: Keeps holding onto my slipper.

Jiang An, unable to restrain her chuckles, gently taps the table, thinking how ridiculously funny and adorable this man and dog were, already eagerly looking forward to seeing them getting along together.

On the other hand, Gao Chuan is still confronting the Labrador holding onto his slipper. Eventually sensing the man’s fierce gaze, the puppy finally lets go of the slipper and trots to Gao Chuan’s feet, squatting down like a little poor thing who knows to correct its mistakes, snuggling around his feet.

Gao Chuan glanced at his phone screen, Jiang An had just replied.

Jiang An: Hahahahahaha

Jiang An: Maybe the dog is teething.

The man looked at the Labrador obediently lying at his feet, his heart gradually softened. He picked up his worn-out slippers again, squatted down, and slowly stroked the little guy’s head a few times.

The Labrador seemed to really enjoy the petting, "Ao ao" barking twice.

At that moment, Gao Chuan seemed to zone out suddenly; he remembered the golden retriever he had saved when he was young. When he had touched it, it had a similar submissive expression.

Regrettably, it saw him as a god, thinking he could save it, but in the end, he could only watch helplessly as it was taken away.

Memories surged like a tide, the man was startled for a moment then withdrew his hand, walking away without a word.

Jiang An practically rushed home straight after work; she had an appointment with the dog’s owner at 7:30 PM. Traffic delayed her a little on the road, and by the time she got home, it was nearly seven o’clock.

The girl excitedly went upstairs and onto the living room to find Gao Chuan watching TV with the little Labrador, who seemed to have fallen asleep next to him. The TV volume was very low, and the man, wearing home clothes, had his eyes fixed on the computer screen.

"I’m back," Gao Chuan said, seeing Jiang An standing not far away.

Jiang An stood there, looking at such a warm scene in the living room, suddenly touched; this beautiful moment should definitely be captured.

Usually, Dr. Gao is always so cold, who would have known he also had such a warm side.

"I’ve arranged with the dog’s owner, he’ll be here soon." Jiang An moved to the sofa; the sleeping dog seemed to have heard the noise and slowly opened its eyes. Seeing Jiang An who had sat down beside it, it immediately excitedly stuck out its tongue and pounced on her.

Jiang An held the little Labrador in her arms, talking to it like coaxing a child, "Were you well-behaved today? Did you make our man here angry?"

The little Labrador "ao ao" barked, seeming to really understand Jiang An’s words and responding.

Gao Chuan turned his head to look at the incomprehensible dialogue between the person and dog, showing an expression like he was looking at a fool.

Jiang An looked at Gao Chuan, sitting alone on the side watching TV, and holding the little dog, she moved closer to him, shaking its two paws, "Come and thank Dr. Gao for taking care of you for the day."

Gao Chuan turned his head to look at the bustling duo, helplessly giving a slight smile.

That smile caught by Jiang An’s eyes, the next second both she and the dog snuggled up to him: "Dr. Gao smiled, didn’t he?"

"No."

"It was a smile, right, puppy? We both saw it."

"..."

Not long, the owner of the Labrador came to pick up the dog; he kept expressing his gratitude, and Jiang An responded with smiling politeness.

Without the dog, the house suddenly became much quieter. Jiang An returned to the living room to find Gao Chuan staring at his own pair of slippers, full of thread, and chuckled twice.

She seemed to know what to give Dr. Gao now.
