Chapter 358: Chapter 358 The Taste of Betrayal (5)

Suddenly, he remembered the day when Lilith had caught him and Lia together.

Is that how it felt?

His chest ached, his eyes became dazed. That time... he didn’t care. He wasn’t even sure what he was doing. Other people didn’t matter, especially not Lilith, who back then he thought was cold, boring, and too difficult to understand. She felt like a duty his grandfather gave him.

He was foolish. So foolish.

He had convinced himself Lilith didn’t matter. She was boring. Cold. Too perfect, too quiet. And compared to Lia, she was... forgettable. At least, that’s what he thought.

Back then, all he saw was Lia’s brightness. Her charm. Her smile.

But now? Now she was a venom he willingly drank until he bled from the inside.

And Lilith had turned into someone the world couldn’t ignore.

Strong. Sharp. Beautiful. Unbothered. Dangerous.

And yet... she never looked back. Not even once. She erased him from her world like he never existed.

A bitter smile touched his lips.

So this is how it felt.

This betrayal. This sick twist in the chest. The silence that echoed louder than screams. The way your mind kept saying, "It can’t be true," even after your heart already knew.

He covered his face with his hand and let out a deep sigh.

"Lilith..."

He whispered her name like a confession, like a regret too heavy to carry anymore.

And just when he thought the ache would settle, a thought sparked in his mind–wild, sharp, and tempting.

"Maybe..." he mumbled to himself, his voice low, breath visible in the freezing air. "Maybe I can still do something."

His eyes slowly lit up.

If he could tell Lilith the truth about her family... maybe she would talk to him again. Maybe she would finally trust him. Maybe... she wouldn’t look at him like a stranger anymore.

He knew something about her family...

"I’ll tell her," he whispered, his voice dry. "I’ll tell her everything."

Rayan didn’t know what he was doing anymore.

After everything that happened, after the hospital, the doctor’s words, and Lia’s betrayal—his mind just... went blank. All he could think about was her. Lilith.

He didn’t even know why. Maybe because she was the only one who had ever been real with him. She never chased him, never begged, never cried for him. She was like a storm in a quiet night–cold, but unforgettable.

Lia had once mentioned Lilith joined some cast, so he pulled up the name, found the location, and drove straight there. When he arrived at the filming site, the area was nearly empty. A few trucks were being loaded, the crew looked exhausted, and the energy felt like the end of something.

He walked around, searching—hoping.

But no Lilith.

One of the staff glanced at him. "You looking for someone?"

His breath caught. "Yeah... yeah, I am. Her name’s Lilith."

"She wrapped her scenes two days ago. Production’s over—she’s not around."

Rayan blinked. "Oh... okay. Thanks."

He turned away before they could see the disappointment flash in his eyes.

Driving away felt like driving through fog. His next stop was her old apartment. He didn’t expect much, but something inside told him to try. Maybe... just maybe she came back to the place she used to be.

When he arrived, the building looked the same. Familiar. Distant. He walked up the steps, met the old security guy, and asked casually if she had been around.

"Lilith?" the man scratched his head. "No, son. She hasn’t been here in months."

Rayan stood still for a second.

Just silence.

"Sh*t," he muttered as he walked back to his car, his hands balling into fists.

He sat inside, closing the door with a thud. His jaw tightened as he leaned his head back, staring up at the roof of the car.

Where the hell are you, Lilith?

And why do I feel like I’m the one who’s lost?

Jealousy welled in his heart like hot poison spreading through his veins.

Rayan gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning pale as he stared at the dashboard but didn’t really see it. The thought came uninvited, sudden and sharp—

What if Lilith wasn’t just away... what if she was staying with her boyfriend?

That possibility clenched his chest in a strange, unbearable way. He could picture it too easily, her with someone else, her cold expression softening for another man, her quiet laugh, her rare smile, all belonging to someone who wasn’t him.

He scoffed bitterly, shaking his head, annoyed at himself.

"What the hell are you even thinking, Rayan?" he muttered under his breath. "You don’t care, remember?"

But he did.

He cared.

He cared more than he ever admitted to anyone—including himself.

And now the image of her resting her head on someone else’s shoulder, whispering soft things under dim lights, sitting at some fancy dinner table, looking effortlessly beautiful in a way only Lilith could... it burned in his mind.

His heart twisted in jealousy, and the worst part? He had no right. He was the one who left. He was the one who never saw her clearly until it was too late.

He laughed dryly, bitter and low.

"You really are a fool."

He leaned his head back against the seat and let out a long, tired sigh. Somewhere between regret and longing, a hollow ache settled in his chest.

And yet... he couldn’t stop himself from wanting to see her.

Not even now. Not even after everything.

Because deep down—he didn’t want to believe she belonged to someone else.

Not yet. Not ever.

Lilith wore a tailored black suit that hugged her waist and flared slightly at the hips, paired with matching high-waisted trousers that flowed gracefully with each step she took. Her deep red heels clicked confidently against the floor.

The blood-colored heels added a bold contrast to her outfit.

Her long, dark hair was open today—soft, glossy waves cascading down her back like a waterfall. A few strands danced lightly around her cheeks as she moved, giving her an effortlessly elegant charm that made people pause and stare. Her lips were painted a muted rose, her eyes outlined with just enough liner to make her gaze sharper than glass. She didn’t need anything more, her presence alone carried power.

As she stepped into the Carter Enterprise building, heads turned instinctively. The woman was impossible to ignore.
