Destroy My Life In You
Chapter 84: Alaric’s Fear and Tears

Chapter 84: Alaric’s Fear and Tears

The world around Ravenna blurred as her father’s word struck her like a blade to the chest.

’... You owe the pack your life for killing five of our members.’

That was absurd. Killing five wolves. That too on her own? She could face one with her being a non-shifter, let alone five. "What are you talking..."

The words barely left her lips when suddenly, a searing pain shot through her entire body. It was sharp, lingering and restless, rendering her breathless and weak. He legs buckled, and she collapsed to the ground on her knees, gasping for breath.

’Ravenna!"

Alaric was beside her in an instant, his hands gripping her arms, his crimson eyes fluttering with worry. "What’s wrong?"

The pain momentarily subsided, just long enough for her to catch a breath. "I... I’m fine..." she forced out, but before she could even finish the sentence, another violent wave of agony ripped through her body.

A scream tore from her throat, raw and excruciating, while Alaric’s grip on her tightened. His whole body was tense with panic. He tried to pull her into his arms, but Ravenna thrashed violently, her body rejecting any form of contact.

"Ahhh!"

"Ravenna!"

She barely registered his voice over the excruciating pain flooding her veins like hell fire. Every breath wad like a torture. It was unlike anything she had felt before.

Behind them, Zander’s voice rang out, calm yet firm. "It’s time."

Alaric’s head snapped up, his eyes narrowing as realization dawned. He turned to Ravenna, grasping her trembling hand. Seeing her in so much pain killed him a thousand times. He knee what was happening. She was having her first shift. And hell yeah! The process was agonising as dictated in texts.

"Hold on, love. It’ll be over soon," he whispered.

Ravenna was in too much suffering to heed his words. It was getting worse with every second.

Alaric checked the surroundings and wanted to take her to a much safer place. But as he was going to lift her into his arms, her body reacted violently.

Her hands lashed out, striking Alaric with a force that pushed him a distance away from her.

A deep, stunned silence fell over the clearing. Alaric skidded to a stop, his hands digging into the dirt. His chest heaved as he looked at her in surprise. She was becoming stronger.

Alpha Derek, who had been silently watching all this while, stepped forward, his voice laced with confusion. "What is happening to her?"

No one answered. On the other hand, Alaric was already back on his feet, walking back to her. He was only a few steps away when Ravenna’s head rose, followed by a loud scream. But that’s not all. Her once clear eyes shone an ethereal, piercing blue.

The glow was so bright that it illuminated the night, casting a haunting reflection over the clearing before they dimmed a little. Another strangled cry from her filled air, her body convulsing. The sound of bones cracking echoed through the silence, giving ideas to some of the werewolves who could already guess what was happening.

Someone from the council gasped, their voice barely a whisper, "She’s shifting."

Another followed, laced with disbelief. "But how? She doesn’t have a wolf."

Then another added. "Can’t you see it’s her first shift? But that’s not the main problem here. Why do her eyes glow blue instead of golden everyone else?"

"Is she..."

Everyone gasped in realization, and they silently watched the events unfold. This day would be recorded in the history of the supernaturals.

Alaric took another step forward toward her, but Zander blocked his path, placing a firm hand on his chest.

Alaric growled lowly. "Move."

Zander’s expression was calm and unreadable, but he stood his ground. "You can’t interfere."

Alaric glared at him intensely. "I said MOVE!" His patience snapped, and shoved Zander aside and rushed to Ravenna’s side once more.

She was still trembling greatily, as she fought between human and beast. Her nails elongated into claws, her limbs bent at an unnatural angle. Her breaths came out in strangled gasps, too.

Alaric knelt beside her, ignoring the energy pulsing from her body. Slowly and carefully, he reached out his fingers, grazing her shoulder.

"Don’t fight it, love."

Her body tensed. Then, in a feral motion, she lunged at him. Her fingers wrapped around his throat.

Alaric didn’t move. Even as she squeezed, even as her sharp claws bit into his skin, he remained still.

But then, another wave of the killing pain crashed into her, and she let him go, her hands slamming against the ground.

And now came the final sound of her bones cracking. Her body convulsed again, and her eyes shone brighter, almost blinding, before the light disappeared.

On the ground where Ravenna was stood a massive, pure white wolf. She panted heavily, low growls spilling from her throat, as if ready to tackle any danger.

Alaric remained frozen before her, his red eye gradually turning golden, and locked them into her blue ones. And he felt the connection between. His soul, heart, and mind felt like they were connected to her.

To try it out, he opened the mind link, which was common among wolves. It was even deeper between mates. Though he didn’t have a wolf like hers, everything else was still the same.

’Love, can you hear me?’ he spoke in his mind, gazing directly into her eyes.

He reached out his hand and touched her snout. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, she exhaled, her body relaxing under hus touch.

She knew him. Her wolf recognised him. ’Yes,’ she replied to him, in her mind too.

Alaric rubbed her soft fur, a rare smile on his lips.

But woe to them, because it wasn’t more than two minutes and their moment was shattered by the sky itself.

The moon was at its peak, the air thick with tension. There was no cloud, no wind, yet suddenly, a deafening clap of thunder cracked across the heavens. And rain fell.

It poured violently, drenching where they were in an instant. But that was not all.

Lightning struck heavily. A blinding bolt of white-hot energy shot down from the sky, slamming into Ravenna’s wolf form. The impact sent her flying away from Alaric.

Alaric’s breath caught in his throat as she hit the ground, her pristine white fur now streaked crimson one side. Worriedly, he flashed towards her, but before he could reach to her, another bolt struck on her, and the force sent him flying backwards, near Zander and the others.

Pain. Burning flesh. The scent of blood filled the air.

Alaric’s entire body tensed, rage and fear surging through him like a beast unchained. He moved, but a pair of hands grabbed him. Zander and Finn, their grips iron-clad.

"LET ME GO!"

Alaric’s voice was monstrous, barely human.

Nyx and the three wolf brothers were also taken aback by the events. Zeke spoke up first, "Help her!"

Seth added, "It’s her first shift, and this kind of pain will kill her!"

"Finn, Zander!" Then Nyx.

As for Luke, he was already on the move when Zander’s strained voice reached him, "NO ONE moves!" His eyes were burning red.

Alaric’s vision with fury as he watched more than five thunderbolts land on Ravenna. His fangs elongated. His claws extended. And he was in full half vampire and half wolf form. He was done talking. With an unseen move, he twisted, grabbing Finn first.

With one brutal movement, he broke Finn’s neck and dropped him to the ground, and lurched at Zander. Zander had barely time to react. He tried to avoid it, but then a sickening crack of his broken neck rang out, and his body hit the ground, too.

Alaric knew they wouldn’t die from it. It would only be a matter of a few minutes, and they would be awake.

But he didn’t care at that moment. In a blur, he was beside Ravenna, his arms wrapping around her massive wolf form.

Her body was still, her eyes shut.

’Ven,’ he whispered, trying to mind-link her, his voice trembling inside.

She stirred silently but didn’t respond.

Then, just as the rain, storms, and everything had started without a warning, they stopped, leaving only an eerie, disturbing silence.

Still in Alaric’s arms, her wolf form began to shift back. Her human body reappeared, curled against him, her skin pale, clothes tattered and soaked with blood.

"Ravenna?"

Alaric’s hands trembled as he cupped her face, brushing the blood mated hair away. There was no injury on her face, but her body, they were endless. Blood was still dripping from the wounds, staining Alaric and the ground.

"Open your eyes, love." But nothing happened.

Panic gripped him. Why was this scene somehow familiar? It was just like how he had begged her not to leave him centuries ago, but she still disappeared, leaving him broken. If it happened, he would have no reason to live anymore.

Alaric tapped her cheek, but his entire body went ice-cold when he could not hear her heartbeat. It was silent, with only the faint, soft, and fragile sound of their child.

His breath caught, and his world tilted. Terror flooded him, choking him with complex emotions. Fear, worry, pain, and anger towards himself. He had failed her again. He pressed his forehead against hers, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Please," he begged. "Come back to me."

But he was only met with silence. His throat tightened, and vision blurred. "You wanted to hear me say ’I love you’, right? I will, but you have to stay... with me."

His lips brushed against her forehead. "I love you. So much that I don’t know what I’ll do if you me." A tear from his eyes fell on her cheek, and more followed. "Wake up, love. You’ve won now." He murmured, remembering her words.

’Wait till I know what your weakness is. Then, I’ll make you say you love me ten times, crying.’

Alaroc let out a broken, earth-shattering scream, his head raised up, and pulled her body closer, his shaking.

His world had ended.
