Destroy My Life In You -
Chapter 61: Broken and Insane
Chapter 61: Broken and Insane
I had been to countless missions, but never had I seen so much blood. I witnessed it, the beast he was. The way he tore every person or rather vampire in that warehouse all by himself. I could finally relate Jareth’s story. This man was capable of annihilating an entire village. The realization put me into a state of shock that I forgot to breathe.
It was only after someone set me free that I snapped out. My eyes met with Zeke’s, which were glowing with golden colour. Standing beside him were Seth and Luke.
I took a sharp breath, letting in the pain and sourness on my body. Without a word, I stood up and almost fell, but the trio rushed towards me, each holding me in place.
"Be careful."
"Don’t strain yourself."
"Miss Ravenna."
They said simultaneously, a trace of an unfamiliar warmth in their faces. I guess they were feeling guilty for whatever happened, but that meant nothing to me anymore. If this was before, I would be over the moon, but my heart felt empty.
I pulled off from them and painfully limped away, heading to the door. A mass of corpses lay on the path a proof of Alaric’s ruthlessness. I was scared, not of Alaric, but the fact he might have been the one who killed Jaxon. It still hurt deeply, but I couldn’t do anything because I was conflicted by confusion, anger, betrayal, and what pricked me was that damn feeling of denial. I could not accept that Alaric was like that. He could be merciless but killing innocent people, and my heart wrestled against it.
"No, not now. I can’t be weak right now... Damn it! What’s with all these lingering feelings? I already... rejected him." I lamented to myself, my voice almost inaudible.
The slight hope left crashed down when images of the woman in his arms crossed my mind, cutting the wound deeper. I increased my pace and was about to get to the door when something, or rather someone fell me, blood oozing from his neck, and his chest open with no heart. From the look of things, it had been ripped put. I didn’t need anyone to explain who had done so.
Thay sight reminded me of my dream. It was quite similar to what I had seen. I clenched my fist and was about to turn around when I felt something flash beside me.
Before I could even register what was happening, I felt my body go up, and I was in someone’s arms, carried in a princess-way. I instinctively raised my arm to pull away but paused when I saw his face. It was Alaric.
His eyes shone the same colour as the blood on his face, while he dangerously stared at me. His fangs were dripping of the red liquid, falling onto my tattered clothes. Each drop was like cold water falling onto my skin, building goosebumps as fear of what would happen next gripped.
"Where do you think you are going like this?"
I definitely heard some sounds, but I was too busy planning how to escape from the arms of the goddamn vampire and didn’t get to understand what he was talking about.
"Let go for me. I have nothing to do with you anymore," I subconsciously murmured, wriggling in need of freedom.
There was no reply and only got heavy glares from him. Nevertheless, I did not stop wiggling until he let out a low, dissatisfied growl.
"Now what? Want to drain me too? Here’s my neck. Why not sink those fucking fangs? Or... you could just gouge out my heart. After all, it’s what you do best to traitors, right? I betrayed you to your enemies, met with my ex in a private hotel and probablyhad some good time together." Ignoring the burning pain on my throat, I muttered, feeling anger rising up rapidly.
He had the nerve to growl at me after making me a pawn in his dirty games.
I felt his grip loosen and in a lightening speed, I jumped off and attempted to push him away, but he did not barge.
"What did you just say?" His voice was low yet enough to make me feel like going down on my knees. The air around dropped to negative degrees. His eyes that were bloodshot red were surrounded by a dark mist, shadowing any sort of emotion flowing in them.
I moved a step back but my haze never averted from him. A familiar feeling surged in when I looked at those eyes, as if I had seen a similar scene. But no matter how I tried to crack my brain, I could not figure out where.
"Alaric, calm down," I recognised Finn’s even without having to see him, and in a snap, he was standing in between Alaric and me, his back on me. "You know what she said is not true. She’s your mate only. Only yours, alright?"
His words were confusing and infuriating. I aggressively moved Funn aside and stood face to face with Alaric. "What will you do if it’s true? If you can enjoy yourself with other women why can’t I also have my fun?"
I could see it. He was losing it with the way veins popped on his temple. His fists were clenched and I let put a dry chuckle. "What are you waiting for? I’m of no use to you now. You’ve caught the person you wanted. Why not just end everything completely... I... promise, no one will look for you to avenge my death. Come one, do fast before I change my mind."
I put Alaric’s hand on my neck, pressing it with my hand as if waiting for him to squeeze the life out of me while laughing hysterically.
"Damn it! What the hell are you doing? Do you want to die." Finn pulled me off Alaric and I staggered almost falling.
I shook off his hand off mine, a sarcastic smile and laughter following again. "Yes. Isn’t that what you all wanted?"
"Ravenna!" Finn roared, but that only made my laughter increase.
"What? I’m I lying?" I asked, staring at him and Alaric alternatively.
"You know that’s not..."
I interrupted him with a shush, then looked at Alaric, "The moment all of you decided to put me up into such a gamble was when you killed me. So, what’s the big deal in finishing it off completely?" I looked behind Alaric and saw the other three standing motionless beside the chair I was tied on. "Hey! What are you doing over there? Zeke, don’t be a coward. You hate me most, so why don’t you go first... Then my dearest ’friend’ Seth and my little cutie pie. Hmm... After that... Zander... where is he? Did he miss the party? Zander! Zander! Where are... Oh, here comes the almighty Zander..."
"Ravenna..." Finn called out almost pleadingly but didn’t give him a chance to speak
"No hurries, Finn. I haven’t forgotten you. Or do you want to go before Zander? Alright. Finn, then Zander and lastly..." I shifted my gaze back to Alaric, "His Majesty." And bowed slightly, an endless smirk on my lips.
