Chapter 59: Rejected Mate- Broken Bond

Chapter 59: Rejected Mate- Broken Bond

Ravenna felt as if she had fallen into a pit of darkness. Everywhere was dark, and whispers and cries of people demoralising her. It was excruciatingly painful listening, especially to Alaric’s voice. She tried to open her mouth and explain herself, but nothing came out. Her throat felt dry with sharp pain any time she tried to say a word.

"Miss, are you okay?" A feminine voice resonated in her ears, waking Ravenna from the nightmare. "Miss. Can you hear me?"

"Wa...ter," Ravenna stuttered, her voice hoarse due to dryness and pain.

A female nurse went ahead and poured her a glass of water and assisted her to take a few gulps.

"How do you feel? Any pain?" The nurse enquired, placing the glass on a table.

Ravenna shook her head in a slow motion while glancing around as if looking for someone. "How... did I get... here?" Her throat was still in pain, but her words were still clear.

"Mr. Nightveil brought you here," the nurse replied, assisting Ravenna, who was trying to sit upright.

"Alaric? Where... is he?" She felt emotions rushing inside her, desperate to see him and explain herself. Although she was deeply what, by his lack of trust, Ravenna was not one to give up without a fight.

"I meant Sir Finn, he was the one who brought you here," the nurse clarified.

Ravenna felt her heart go cold, but she didn’t lose hope. "Where... is... he?" The more she spoke, the worse her throat hurt, but she cared less about that.

"He left almost immediately after bringing you here."

It was like iced water had been poured on her, alarming her every nerve. Nevertheless, the desire to see Alaric was still burning inside, and without a word, she tried to get off the bed.

"I... have to... leave."

The nurse held her shoulder, stopping her, and fear clearly visible on her face. "You can’t, miss. Not until you are fine. If you continue straining your vocal cords, you might lose your voice."

"I really... need to go... right now," her voice cracked with despair, thoughts of losing the people she had grown attached to, killing her slowly.

"Miss, please don’t cause trouble for me. It’s already past midnight," the nurse’s voiced a little, annoyed by her unreasonable tantrums.

Ravenna quieted down, understanding arguing with the nurse would not do her any good. "Alright... I’ll wait... till morning. Am sorry."

The nurse nodded, and her expression somehow softened when Ravenna apologised. After tucking Ravenna back to bed, the nurse left after also making her take some medicine.

Ravenna stayed motionless for half an hour before she successfully snuck out of the hospital. After all, sneaking out was nothing new to her. There were no cabs nearby, and her gadgets were nowhere to be found, so she had to walk her way to Alaric’s mansion, which took almost two hours.

After a long walk, Ravenna finally stood outside the gate, breathing heavily. She was about to knock when she detected a presence beside her. She was about to attack, but her hands were held before she could even move.

"Do you want to die?" Zeke whispered with a dangerous groan. "What are you doing here? Haven’t you had enough?"

Ravenna shivered in response, unable to say a word. Though his grip didn’t hurt her, the hate and disgust in his voice was breaking. Though they weren’t exactly the best of friends, they were getting along well.

"I need... to see Alaric," She replied and felt Zeke let go of her.

"Leave!" That was all he said before walking past her.

Ravenna held his hand and shook her head firmly. "I won’t until I see him."

Zeke scoffed, rubbing between his eyebrows clearly irritated by her. "I won’t say again. Leave!"

"And I am not...going anywhere without meeting Alaric. Even... even if you drag me out of... here, I’ll come back."

Zeke looked at her unblinkingly for some few seconds, then fished out his phone from his pocket and dialled a number. "She’s here and won’t leave... Yes, I understand." Then hanged up.

"Is that... Ala...ric?" Ravenna asked instantly, her throat still hurting, but that was not her concern at the moment. She just wanted to see him and explain herself.

"Come with me," Zeke said coldly and opened the gate for her. "You should have left when I asked you to."

Ravenna frowned, following Zeke behind. "What do you mean?"

Zeke did not say any other word and just led her inside the mansion. As usual, the place was oddly quiet emanating a dark aura, thay could swallow one alive. For the first time, Ravenna felt scared stepping foot into that house.

"We are here," Zeke announced, heading straight to the sofa.

"Huh?" Ravenna hummed in confusion and dared not to move.

She could see a familiar silhouette standing near the wine cellar, his back facing her. Fear and anticipation crept slowly as she took unhurried steps towards him. She couldn’t wait to be in his arms again. How much she had missed him. His warmth, his voice, everything about him. Her eyes welled up, but not a drop fell.

Ravenna had just gotten near the sofa where Zeke was sitting when so.wthing else caught her attention. Apart from Alaric, there was someone else trapped in between him and the counter table. It was a woman. But that’s not what broke her, but the ongoing scene. Alaric kissing the woman.

Ravenna let out a low gasp, feeling her legs grow weak. She staggered and knocked off the table and then fell on the sofa beside Zeke.

"I warned you," Zeke said emotionless, then left the living room.

The sight burned into her mind. That sight was like a dagger in her heart, sharp and unrelenting, tearing apart every foundation of their connection. There was nothing as painful as a mate experiencing betrayal from their partner. Fury clashed with the ache of unspoken despair, driving her into an unfamiliar madness.

She tried a lot to keep herself in check, but something unleashed inside her, and she let out a loud growl that shockingly shook the entire mansion. Feeling of anger and bloodthirst crushed her like never before. Veins popped on her forehead, and claws protruded on her fingers.

Ravenna tried to fight something that was trying to take over her. Holding her head, she opened her eyes and looked at Alaric, who was now looking back at her with complex emotions she didn’t want to interpret.

The thing inside her somehow calmed down when she saw he was not holding the woman anymore. Her mind became a bit clear, and she stood up.

Staring at Alaric intensely, she spoke, her voice a bit dragged but clear, "Alaric, I reject you as my mate. Let’s... not see each other...anymore." The last string of their connection broke, and that power took over completely, and before she knew, Ravenna was out of the mansion, her superhuman speed undetectable.
