Destroy My Life In You
Chapter 49: Sweet-Bitter Way

Chapter 49: Sweet-Bitter Way

Everything became blurred under the gaze of Alaric, while my heart almosg stopped for a moment before it accelerated to an untamed rhythm. It was until I saw him advancing towards the dance floor that I snapped out of the stupor.

I climbed down hurriedly and ran towards Seth and Zeke, standing behind them, while my eyes remained glued on Alaric, who was now walking our way.

"Seth, Zeke. Don’t let him take me with him." I murmured to them and cried inwardly, thinking of what to do.

"We are dead," Seth spoke in a low tone, swallowing nervously.

"I’m dead," Zeke added, wiping invisible sweat on his forehead.

I, on the other hand, was trying to figure out a good and evil plan to tame the devil before he got to us. It didn’t take long, and when Alaric was only steps away from us, I took a bottle of everclear, drinking it in one go with closed eyes, then dropped down to the table.

I almost lost my stability. My head was clear like never before. But for now, I had to do something outrageous in order to escape Alaric’s wrath.

Patting myself inwardly, I took a step forward, then another one, and by the time I was about to take the fifth one, I staggered, colliding with a table. I was about to hit it back when my eyes met with the beautiful scenery. The table was arranged with glasses filled with red wine. I hurriedly grabbed two of them and drunk them at the same time. When I was done, I let out a sigh and licked my lips. It was just the beginning, and I went ahead to pick another two. Only this time, my hand was grabbed, and I could already guess who the person was. Phew! Acting mode on. It was time to display my best skills.

With a frown, I turned my head, and for sure, Alaric was standing there, sending death glares into my eyes. I could feel my knees go weak, but I snapped back in time. I had to be strong, or else the three of us would be doomed.

I tried to pull my hand away, letting out a dissatisfied groan. "Let go or join me." I feigned to be totally wasted and hit my head on the man’s chest before pulling back in a slow motion.

"Ven!" I heard him call out my name in a low but angry tone, driving me into a world of worry.

Now I had to up my act. I chuckled childishly and then put the two glasses of wine back in the table. With a wide, stupid grin, I cupped Alaric’s cheeks into my hands and leaned closer to his face, that I could feel his slowed breaths on my face.

"Handsome," I murmured truthfully, then added with a blush. "I... like you. What’s your name, handsome?"

I patted his cheeks gently, then poked his nose, chuckling lightly.

"You had the guts to come back here without permission and even got yourself drunk. I think I have been lenient too much."

His words made my heartbeat accelerated but I didn’t give off my expression. I dropped hands and pouted, my eyes welling up.

"Bad, handsome guy. Why are you speaking like him, too? Cold... hmm... and... I forgot. Handsome, don’t break my heart like him? That... boyfriend of... mine... No, not anymore... I’ll leave him and... take you." I said, followed by a soft laughter.

I could see his eyes flash red as his annoyance deepened. "Let’s go." He didn’t give a chance to say a word and pulled me with him, but I wouldn’t let him have it his way.

I grabbed the table with my free hand and refused to move. "No, no, no. I’m not going anywhere." I shook my head, and my long, untied hair spread all over my face, leaving only a little space for me to see.

"Ven!" I could feel his patience was at the edge, and that delighted me.

"No. I don’t want to goooo," I pulled my hand from his grasp, but he only tightened his grip. "Where are you taking me, handsome?... Do you want to..." I paused, narrowing my eyes at him, then continued. "...sleep with me?"

"What?"

I shook my head hissing in disapproval. "You can’t do that, handsome. Only... my mate... can. Do you know I am still a virg... Aaah!"

My words were cut short when Alaric lifted me up and put me on his shoulder, like he was carrying a sack.

"You never stop talking, do you?" I heard him asking while walking away.

On his shoulder, I pretended to struggle, but my happy expression relayed otherwise. I lifted my head and glanced at Seth and Zeke, who had stupified yet relieved faces. I waved at them, winked before sending g a flying kiss.

"Put me doooown!" I let out a yell before disappearing to the other side of the door.

A cold, scary air filled the car. Ravenna was cornered on the window by Alaric’s never shifted unsettling glare for the last five minutes. He didn’t say a word, but his silence spoke volume, showing the weight of his anger.

Ravenna knew better than to fuel the inferno raging inside him. Thus, she chose to remain silent. From time to time, she would feign hiccups continue to show him that she was drunk. That was the only way she could be able to avoid his rage.

"Why did you sneak out?" He finally broke the silence startling, just when she was planning to take a nap.

"Won’t tell. You are bad, very bad.... Waaah!" Her childish cry echoed in the car.

Alaric furrowed his brows, wondering just how much she had drank before he got there. If it were anyone else, they would have already collapsed after having an entire bottle of everclear, but his little woman, she seemed to have a high alcohol tolerance.

The only mistake she made was sneaking, knowing he was against her going out on her own. Not until he had captured the person who was playing games behind his back, by trying g to make his mate be frightened of him. The person who had informed her of his identity. But until date, he was still unsuccessful even after having asked Ravenna about the details, which she obediently obliged and told him everything she knew. He was worried. Worried for her, that they might use her against him if they discovered she had become his weakness over time. That was why he didn’t want her to leave his side even for a moment. Not to talk that the Silver Pack was still looking for her. She was his to protect and wouldn’t let any harm befall her. Not now, not ever. That was a promise he had made to him and silently to her.

"Then I should show you how bad I can be, sweetheart. " Slowly but roughly, he kissed her before carrying her up to his lap, in a way that she was strandling him. He wanted to punish her in a sweet-bitter way, because he couldn’t hurt her physically like he usually did to others. And because she was not others. She was his mate, his second chance and someone whom he had grown to love immensely.
