Chapter 24: A Fucking Bastard And An Asshole

Late in the evening, three silhouettes could be seen sitting in the large living room silently. It was Alaric and his brothers, Finn and Zander. The air around them had turned chilly due to a certain someone who was being impatient for being kept waiting. An explanation is what he wanted.

"Will you start talking or shall I make you?" His threatening vice resonated in the room while he took a sip on his glass or red ’wine’.

Finn looked at Zander who was acting nonchalant, as if this had nothing to do with him leaving Finn to handle the volcano waiting to erupt, like always.

Sighing deeply, he finally replied, "As I told you on the phone this morning, we found out she’s not involved with them, rather the wolves are looking for her to execute her."

He went silence waiting for his brother to say a word but only received a cold glare, before he sighed passively and continued. "It’s because she... Ugh! How do I say this? Those liars say she killed four... werewolves and injured one badly, two years ago, just exactly the date I met her on that road."

"Which makes it more complicated. How can a mere human hurt a werewolf let alone kill them, with her bare hands? That sounds ridiculous." Zander added lost in thought.

"Did you get to know what she was doing in the pack?" Alaric stared at the empty space also in his own thoughts. No one could comprehend what he was thinking about.

Finn cleared his throat and adjusted his tie nervously, looking at Zander for help. The man just stared him at uninterested but still said, "It was unfortunate Finn killed him before we could interrogate further."

Finn looked elsewhere cursing Zander inwardly. Couldn’t he have found some much suitable words that would not land him in trouble with Alaric?

"One might think you are a traitor given the circumstances, don’t you think so Finn?" Staring daggers at the man, Alaric let out a low growl with his blood red, blatantly frustrated.

Finn swallowed in fear, before instantly explaining himself, "You know I wouldn’t do that for no reason. The werewolf made me so angry and I didn’t know when dug out his heart."

"I was angry too but I didn’t act upon my emotions." Zander spoke up plainly uninterested, before glancing at Alaric. "It wasn’t his fault though, you know how he’s when he gets emotional. The werewolf bastard insulted his ’precious sister’ calling her a curse and an outcast, making him lose it."

Alaric did not say a word which made Finn quite nervous, with countless thoughts of how he would be punished. Maybe thrown into a pit full of those bloody werewolves, or worse, a pit full of rogue vampires, whose bite was lethal to other vampires. For him who was a pure blood and powerful, the bite would only make him delusional and experience hellish pain for a few days but to the bitten and hybrids, they would die within a span of few hours. Finn shook his head to brush off those thoughts.

"Bro, I know that was reckless of me and willing to make it up for it by hunting another werewolf. Just please don’t... send me there." Finn never thought he would himself in such a situation again. He had experienced the pain years ago but he had never forgotten that pain. The only difference was at that time Zander was also with him and after, he vowed to never go against Alaric or do anything that would put him in such misery again.

Alaric looked away lazily having his drink, then said, "I didn’t intend to. He deserved to die for..." He paused abruptly and his ears became alert as if trying to listen to something. "She’s coming."

"Who’s..." Finn did not get to finish his question when he heard footsteps from a far and a heartbeat he was familiar with. It was the same for Zander. "Oh dear, it’s Venna."

The small figure of Ravenna appeared from the stairs, as she staggered around with messy hair and crumpled clothes. Supporting herself with the handrail, she headed down her eyes half closed, and was massaging her head making her hair even messier. She was yet to see the trio staring at her surprised.

"Alaric, you fucking bastard. You better come and explain yourself before I burn your house down... Bloody hell! What’s with this headache? ... Alaric, where the hell..." Her shuts quieted down upon opening her eyes fully, and saw two she did not expect, sitting opposite to the person she desperately wanted to chop into tiny pieces.

"Pfft... I can’t hold back..." Finn burst into laughter Ravenna’s curses and warnings towards Alaric ringing in his mind continuously. Zander also had a rare satisfied smile on his lips as he looked Alaric who was definitely about to burn someone down.

"Finn, Zander? Why are you here?" Ravenna asked subconsciously but then corrected her words. "I mean, you are back so soon?" She motioned herself and took a sit before her now archenemy, sparing him a not so friendly look.

Finn grinned not missing anything. What could be more entertaining than watching his ruthless, emotionless brother getting cornered his favorite girl. He was happy looking at her like a father admiring his daughter. "I missed you and moreover, I finished my work sooner than I expected."

Ravenna smiled shyly but then frowned looking at Finn suspiciously. "You never said you missed me before and you also look overly happy. Are you also scheming something against me?"

"Why does my happiness have to do scheming? Am genuinely happy because... I have seen you after days of missing you."

Ravenna knew something was definitely something amiss with Finn, and her suspicion grew stronger when she glanced at Zander and found a subtle smile on his lips too. She then turned to Alaric only to receive a dark death glare but she cared less, then turned away.

"You know, this few days you went away, a fucking bastard was planning to kill me and he even resorted... seducing me to accomplish his plans but luckily, I was saved. Not only that, I met an asshole, more of a psycho who had this... glowing eyes, long and smelly teeth. Zeke... yes, Zeke was his... Zeke!!!"

The three men were taken aback by her reaction. They watched her stand up fuming, pointing towards the door. Following her sight, they met Zeke who was frozen at the door, his eyes glowing golden, his beast about to go on lose.
