Destroy My Life In You -
Chapter 22: Zeke
Chapter 22: Zeke
I could hear restrained whispers when my consciousness started to hit in. With my eyes still closed, I tried to remember what actually happened to me but the blurry image of Alaric was all I could see, after experiencing that sharp pain on my neck. My first thought was I had been kidnapped by some old enemies or Alaric’s foes, which seemed more logical since not many people knew my identity as a serial killer. So, if they did take me, they also would have kidnapped Alaric and the driver, which meant they might have been around.
Slowly and warily, I half-opened my eyes scanning the surroundings. From the look of things, I was in a not so large room with a one chair seat placed about a meter away from me, almost the same as the one I was sitting on. On the right side, I could see half bodies of two individuals standing there and probably were the ones whispering.
"What do you think she might have done?" I heard a male voice asking still in a low tone.
"Spying. Just like all the other bitches." Sharp-tongued was what came in my mind first when the other person, also a man, replied. I wondered who they could be talking about because it could not be me. Curious to know more, I set my ears wide open.
"She would not be here if it were so." The good man spoke.
"For her to be brought in this place means she’s not innocent. Maybe the boss wants to make it slow for her." And the bad, sharp-tongued guy retorted a sneer from him following after his words.
"I don’t think so. She seems quite young, not more than 22 years. And she’s also human, though her scent is faint."
"With a pretty, seductive foxy face. I bet she’s a whore those bastards found to seduce the boss. Good thing he didn’t fall for her schemes." I almost wanted to ask him what or who they were talking about but that would not be a good idea.
"Don’t be rude. The boss said not to touch her which means there’s more to it."
"Let’s wake her up and ask. Why keep guessing when she’s right before us?" I could hear that bad guy make advances towards me, and I didn’t need any one to tell me I was the subject of their topic. The only question was how was I connected to all of this and who would have kidnapped me.
My defensive intent activated as I listened to his every step as he neared me. Fortunately, my hands nor legs were not tied which was very odd for kidnappers but brushed it off and continued to listen. This was the keenest I had ever been and waited till he was standing in front of me. I flashed my eyes open and landed a heavy punch on him then kicked him on his stomach after grabbing a gun that I had seen on his waist while he was approaching.
"Who wants to go first?" My voice was damn serious than ever as I pointed the gun at the two men with a devilish smile.
"I knew this bitch couldn’t be trusted." The man I had just kicked snarled then let out a low growl, ready to attack me back, but the other man beside him held his arm pulling him back. He was quite daring to insult me when being held under a gun. Careless and untactful was what he was.
"You can’t act recklessly, Zeke. Remember boss said not to touch her." The good man was holding the other man, Zeke what he called him, while he struggled desperately glaring at me.
"You seem to be in hurry to die, asshole. How about we make your death useful?" With that, I pulled the trigger but deliberately missed the shot, only to scare the man but immediately regretted it because it would alert the others. "Where’s Alaric, the man who was with me? You must have also kidnapped him. Just answer me and I’ll make it quick."
The two men stopped their actions and focused their attention fully on me, as if taken aback. I took a step forward thinking they had relented. Seizing the chance, I decided to make a move before the others got there.
"I won’t ask again. Where’s Alaric?" I took another step towards them while staring sharply at them in case they made a move.
"What are you playing at, missy?" Zeke asked suspiciously before withdrawing his arm from his colleagues hold.
"You are wasting my time, bastard. I’ll shoot your sweet mate if you don’t answer me in a count of three." My lips formed a curve and threatened to pull the trigger. "Alaric, where’s he?... One, two, three." My smile fell and without batting an eye, I shot at Zeke’s partner on his knee, who grimaced in pain before falling down on the floor.
Zeke’s focus flattered as he squatted down to his partner without a word, and after a few seconds, he stood emitting a cold, killing aura, but I did not waver ready to shoot him if he dared move again.
Before I could even make a move, I felt my neck held tightly and the arm holding the gun grabbed. I blinked my eyes to regain my composure while trying desperately to breath. I tried to raise my leg to kick him but to only realize I was floating on air. Shocked, I looked at the man holding me but was met with the shock of my life.
His eyes, they were glowing with a golden color with fangs protruding from his mouth. He let out a low growl fire of revenge burning in his eyes, while his hold on my neck tightened, leaving me fully breathless. Few more seconds and I would lose consciousness.
"It’ll be my pleasure to take your life." I barely heard him murmuring.
I could feel my body turning cold as I desperately tried to free myself from his hold with my other hand. I could not just die like this. I had to find Alaric before this people did anything to him, that is if they had not done the worst. The thought of Alaric brought a strange fire burning inside as despair hit me when I thought of what they might have done to him. My mind shut down from all that was happening and all I could think of was to find Alaric. There was this new desire and agony to only see him, safe and sound. As if I would burn down the whole world if anything happened to him. I had never felt such intense will to save someone. The feeling felt so familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time. And like that, I indulged in it trying to free myself just for him.
Gathering my remaining strength, I pushed Zeke away and luckily or strangely, he let go and I dropped down to the ground taking in heavy gasps of air. Before I could even pull myself together, I heard footsteps heading towards me and knew this was my end. I barely had strength to fight due to lack of enough air and wounded hand, comparing to that man, Zeke, who I was sure was a psycho or a nonhuman. His whole being suggested so and with his strange strength, I was nothing.
"Alaric, am sorry." I whispered to myself feeling a heart wrenching pain inside me, making me even more breathless. I resigned ready to give in to fate but then...
"Missing me already?" I heard that familiar voice of Alaric. Thinking my mind might have been playing tricks with me, I looked up in urgency and met with his half-smiling face, looking at me while squatted to reach my level. I was shocked at first but a smile broke on my lips, and without a word, I leapt on him hugging him tightly as if he would disappear the moment I let go.
