Chapter 21: Kidnapped???
"She seemed to be short of breath." Luke explained to Alaric, who was sitting on the sofa staring at space, pondering about something or rather someone. "She just said something like... she’s falling in... love too fast?" He stammered with a flush on his face.
"That’s all?"
"Yes, boss," Luke answered absentminded, focused on what Ravenna had said, before his eyes slightly went wide open, thinking maybe she was talking about him. "Sir, I never took her serious please don’t misunderstand. I also thought she was just jokingly saying that but I didn’t know she started liking me... for real. It’s too fast... Boss, I swear it wasn’t my intention to steal your..."
"Shut up!" Alaric roared dangerously. "Stay away from that mad brother of yours. He’s becoming a bad influence."
"Yes, boss." Luke lowered his gaze, and did not say any more.
On the other hand, Alaric smiled his eyes alternating with a black, red and golden glow while his mind wandered back to someone. He could not wait to see her flushing face and her eyes lusting over his body. She would not have it easy if really, she was scheming against him and his brothers. No matter how much she affected him, he knew better than to give in to some petty worldly desires. Having done it once and forgot about his duties, he would never allow any other woman become his down fall. He would eliminate every one of them, after all, it was his duty as the king of his world
The ding of the lift jolted him from his reverie. Following the sound, his eyes were met with the person he was thinking about not so long ago, but the excitement he was expecting was distinguished like a blazing fire. The woman was all covered up everywhere leaving only her eyes for viewing. She had covered her head with what looked like a black scarf and downwards, she wore a black jacket and also a black trouser jean.
"Did you finally lose your mind completely?" Alaric questioned with a disapproving look when she took a seat in the dining place, away from him. Oblivious to Ravenna who was avoiding any interactions or contact with him, he continued scrutinizing her from head to toe as if she had completely lost it. His gaze did not shift from her even after she started having her breakfast, without looking or saying a word to him or even her beloved chef, Luke.
Though he was confused by her strange behaviour, Alaric remained quiet until she was done with her meal. "We are already late." He stood up and left, while Ravenna followed behind silently, facing down, while breathing deeply.
The car sped off for the office, while a deafening silence reigned inside, as each of them minded their own business. For Ravenna, this was an attempt to keep her restlessness under control. All the fuss was to hide her face that was graced with colors early that morning. She had kept fantasizing about the man beside her since she was woken up which led to her current situation.
Ravenna felt like crying due to this stupid yet beautiful new feeling she was experiencing. Her peacefulness was stolen from her by him and here he was still distracting her from thinking about someone else. She never knew this was how it felt when you started falling in love with someone, or maybe this kind of restless and out of control feeling, only happened to her. Loving your own nemesis in a span of three days, feeling restless just with the sight of him or mention of his name so she had to avoid eye contact or conversations with him for the sake of her poor mind and body: It was definitely crazy, more than crazy actually.
Minutes passed by without a word between then, until Ravenna noticed the way to the office had taken longer than the previous day. She glanced outside through the car window and only did she realize they were somewhere from the outcast of the city. She instantly turned to the person she had literally been avoiding, and almost regretted it immediately. She gulped mesmerized by his enchanting silhouette. His whole being was a sight to behold especially his lips that were so inviting asking her silently to just pounce on them like predator she was. For a moment, Ravenna was lost in him until she felt the car slow down. She briefly took a look outside but just saw a thickly wooded area in front.
"Where are we?" She enquired barely staring at Alaric.
The man beside her carried this unnoticeable icy demeanor which somehow lessened when she spoke up. Coldly, he replied, "I thought you took a vow to remain quiet. I was actually enjoying the silence you know." He knew that was a lie.
Ravenna sneered silently but half smiled secretly hearing his voice which she realized she had actually missed all that time. "Fourth rule, remember? No shouting when you are around."
"Shouting yes, not talking." Though he said that in a low tone, Ravenna heard every single of it loud and clear.
Her ears flushed with colors and words stuck on her lips unable to say anything. "So you do like it when I talk?" she asked biting her lower lip while fidgeting.
"I didn’t say that." He denied it, but inwardly, he knew she was right. Her quietness did bother him somehow but he just thought she might be scheming something when silent so it was better if she kept blubbering. He would tolerate for his kind, yes, it was for his people.
"Oh." There was disappointment in her voice. "You didn’t answer me." She said changing the topic, to avoid any heartbreaks in the morning.
Alaric ignored her and got out of the car. Ravenna followed now in full view of the place, confused as to why Alaric would bring her to such kind of a place. It’s not like a meeting would be held here or something. There was nothing ahead except for an endless canopy of trees.
"Stay quiet and follow me." Her reverie was broken by Alaric who suddenly started motioning inside the dense forest.
Obediently without a word, she followed behind and even noticed the driver was also coming along. She smiled at him and stayed hand in hand with him, while stealing glances at Alaric’s back.
The surrounding was oddly quiet with no sound even of that of birds or any animals. Their footsteps were the only thing making low slowed steps sounds. After a short while, they came to a stop in the middle of a small open area, and now they could see the clear sky.
Alaric surveyed the place before turning to the other two people behind him, Ravenna and his driver. Leaving words unsaid, he slightly nodded to his driver.
Ravenna looked alternatively at the two, totally confused with what they were silently conversing about, but before she could ask anything, she felt a sudden jab on her neck. She was about to turn and see what just happened but her head became heavy and was about to fall down due to dizziness. In a dazed condition, she felt an arm hold her by the waist and though blurred, she saw Alaric’s face before losing consciousness completely.
