Chapter 19: Some Time Together

"What girlfriend?"

The nerve of the man to ask that when he knew exactly who I was talking about. Or maybe he had too many women and never took any one of them serious. Nyssa’s words added to my theory, when she asked Alaric earlier if I was his new plaything. So definitely, Alaric was not a one-woman person.

"I get it now. There are numerous of them," I murmured unconsciously, feeling stupid for bearing such pure emotions for that kind of person. Even the word pure could be used in the same sentence as my name, I did respect that emotion, love or whatever it was.

"What stupid thing is your little brain calculating now?" He held my chin and made me look at him. I had almost forgotten that I was still on his lap and now, I was starting to feel uncomfortable. I did not want to be his plaything, not at all because my heart wanted more.

"Am not one of them. You can find someone else." I had to make it clear with him soonest.

"Speak clearly."

I would have wished to leave him hanging as he always did to me but the matter was important to be joked with. "I don’t want to be your plaything or one of your many girlfriends. So, if you are thinking that seducing me with your pretty face would work you better stop it. I know your plan and won’t allow you to mess with me. I may seem careless but..."

"Where did you get that idea from?" His eyes grew darker and his grip on my chin tightened but not strong enough to hurt me.

"I just figured it out myself." I replied confidently then added. "Isn’t that woman, Nyssa, also one of your girlfriends? I could see from the way she glared at me earlier as if I was snatching her man. But now you are denying her so that means you have lots of wom..." I went mum when Alaric’s scorching gaze turned darker and his eyes started turning red with a mixture of golden and black. It was as if he was fighting something inside him.

"If you say another word am going to drain all of your blood." Though his voice was low, I could hear the warning it carried and somehow believed he was capable of doing so. "As for your little misconception, am not interested in you either. To be more precise, I don’t do little girls like you."

I shuddered with his response and instead of being delighted that he did not want me to be his plaything, my heart fell when he said he was not interested in me. That I was not good enough for him. I was quite offended by his remarks.

"Oh, really? Didn’t you know I was a little girl when you kissed me, huh?"

Strangely, his lips curled while his sullen mood disappeared instantly. "Aren’t you the one who seduced me?"

My mouth fell as I looked at him accusingly. How the heck did I even seduce when in fact he was the one doing so. "Seduce you? I don’t remember doing so."

"Have you forgotten so fast. I didn’t want to do it but you pushed me. Touching my neck seductively and even dared me to continue. Should I explain in detail what happened or should we redo it again?"

Wow! That was the longest he had ever spoken in one go. His words brought a flush of embarrassment, all of it was true. I smacked by head inwardly wondering what had gotten into me that time. But I didn’t regret it rather felt a warm feeling surging inside my heart.

"It’s fine. I was not thinking straight at that time." ’You were too irresistible despite being a pain in the ass.’ I wished to add that last sentence but kept it to myself.

"Are you sure?" Unexpectedly, he asked with a subtle ingenuine smile before continuing. "From the look in your eyes, I think it’s something else."

I blinked my eyes wondering if he could really see through my emotions. "I... it’s nothing. I mean..." My stomach growled catching both our attention, and also saved me from the awkward situation. "I’ll go find something... to eat." I wanted to move away from his arms but still he would not let me go.

"I bet there’s nothing in the kitchen since... Luke is not around either." I could detect the change on his face though he was not as cold as earlier. This abrupt change of mood really amazed me. One moment he was warm and in the next, he would make the temperature drop to a negative degree. I was wondering how he did that? Such a complicated and unpredictable weather in form of a human.

I just nodded to avoid his foul mood. "I’ll try to make something." I informed waiting for him to release me but he didn’t.

"I don’t want you to burn down my kitchen so I ordered food."

"It’s not like I can’t cook, I just haven’t been in the kitchen for a long time. I was banned to enter by Zander." It had been almost a year now since the last time I entered a kitchen. I had mistakenly forgotten to turn of the cooker resulting to half of the camp burning down and since then, my room was miles away from that place.

"Same here, no kitchen for you. Zander had warned me about it."

I shrugged my shoulders and moved a little before realizing Alaric had retracted his hands. I jumped away from him happily then rushed directly to the lift without looking back or else I find myself trapped in his arms. Inside, I exhaled deeply while fanning myself. The images of our long conversation as he locked me in his arms came rushing into my mind. A blush crept on my cheeks like a teenage girl who had just had a moment with her long-time crush.

"Damn it! What am I supposed to do now? Am so fucking doomed. Of all people why did it have to be him? He’s not even interested in me and here I am fantasizing about him." I paced back and forth inside the lift thinking of a solution, whether to pursue him or just forget about whatever it was I had for him.

I walked out of the lift the moment it opened and went directly to my room, my head full of thoughts. Thoughts of how to make a man fall in love with you overnight or in a day. If it happened with me why not him? I just had to find my dearest ’friend’ who was living in the city and all would work out.
