Destroy My Life In You
Chapter 18: More Than a Simple Like

Chapter 18: More Than a Simple Like

A gasp left my mouth as I hit Alaric’s forehead due to the sudden pull. A sharp pain spread across my head but was taken over by the scorching sensation pressing on the back of my neck and near my lips. His left hand was holding the neck while the other traced below my lower lip, slowly and gently. An icy tremor surged through my body, locking my whole being in place in place though a quiet alarm in my core was nudging me to retreat. As if spellbound, I did not move nor resist his advances, rather I wanted more just like always. More of his touches, more of his dangerous whispers, more of whatever he was doing to me. Subconsciously, I closed my eyes unable to think straight, as I felt his hand tracing my neck veins up and down, while the other touched my lips making a soft moan escape my mouth. I bit my lips in embarrassment and closed my eyes tighter.

"From your current reaction, I should say you are the one into me." After he said that, he stopped his actions.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. It felt as if I had been denied of my life when his hands withdrew from my body. I wanted him to continue, until I had enough which I think I would never have. His touch was so addictive that it drove me crazy when he withdrew. With my eyes still closed, I turned my head to other side trying to calm my heated body. All in all, it seemed my plan had terribly backfired. My feelings for him were not only lust and desire, but something else I was scared to admit. But no matter how much I resisted; I knew for sure I was into him. It was much more than a simple like that I knew of. This strange thing, I only felt it with Alaric and no one else. It was not even more than three days since I met him, but he was messing with my emotions swiftly that I did not even realize how and when it exactly happened. The night he barged into my room, the first time we kissed, the instances he got close to me, my fights with him. I was not aware.

"You win," I whispered under my breath, exhaling deeply.

"Win what?" He asked in return, but I just shook my head sighing again.

Lazily, I stood up and dragged my feet to the kitchen. Only cutie pie could liven up my mood at the moment. "Cutie pie, am home. Did you miss..." I frowned not finding him in the kitchen. It was almost time for dinner, and he should have been there preparing a feast for me, but the place was empty with no sign of anyone having been there.

I returned into the living room and luckily, I found Alaric still there, scrolling something on his phone. "Which floor does cutie pie live in?" I waited for a moment, but the egoistic man just remained silent. "Am asking you, Mr. Nightveil."

This time, he looked at me but at that instant, I felt something prick my heart. His gaze was full of surging anger and something else I could not make out. "What?" The single word was enough to make me go quiet, while wondering who was capable to make him lose it. A moment ago, he was fine but now, his mood seemed to have taken a ninety-degree turn.

"It’s nothing important." I turned to leave but my hand was caught and pulled back. I missed my steps and ended falling on to the man’s lap.

My stupid heart jolted as flush of warmth spread across my cheeks and body. His arm, strong and steady, was wrapped around my waist holding me in place making me feel breathless yet somehow safe. His scent lingered in the air, filling my senses. I felt so vulnerable under his watchful gaze as if I was fully exposed to him. I knew I had been waiting for his touch for long, even if I had not realized it until now.

"Never walk out on me." I could hear him murmur something, but all my attention was diverted to his throat that was rhythmically moving up and down, then stopped the moment he was done talking. "Are you listening to me?" Then it moved again, bringing a smile to my lips without realizing.

"So tempting." Before I knew it, my fingers were already tracing his neck fascinated by the lump. A quiet chuckle slipped past my lips as I pinched it a little. I was about to do it again when the man caught my hand.

"What do you think you are doing?" His menacing voice broke me out of my stupor, and then did I realize what I was doing.

"I... didn’t... mean." For the first time in a long time, I stammered in my speech. "I’ll leave now."

I tried getting away from his lap, but he would not let go. After a minute of struggling, I grew tired and resigned in his arms angry. Not with him but myself. Angry that I was unable to resist him, angry that I was immersing myself into something impossible.

"Did you even hear what I said earlier?" I could feel the warning in his voice, so I just nodded my head though I knew it was a lie. "Good." He pulled me into a comfortable position and forcefully placed my hands around him.

I was supposed to be on guard, but heart was in turmoil that it was not willing to listen. So, I went along with him and did not say a word. His actions made me feel delighted but at the same time confused and curious. Confused as to how his moods changes with just a span of a few seconds and curious as to why he was doing this? The only explanation I could think of was maybe he also felt the same as I did. Though I wanted to believe it, something that had occurred earlier was creating doubts in my mind. Nyssa. The way she behaved in the office showed her relationship with Alaric was not just professional. His girlfriend?

My mood dampened with the realization. I clenched my cheeks between my teeth feeling breathless. I should have realized sooner that a handsome man like him would no way be single. Feeling down, I sighed inwardly chanting all this would go away as fast as it came. With new determination, I raised my gaze on him with a half-smile that did not reach my eyes.

"Mr. Nightveil, don’t you think it’s inappropriate for you to hold me like this when you already have a girlfriend?" I pushed his arm away and this time he loosened his grip but still did not let me out.

I tried to read his expression but there was nothing. His silence only made it worse for me and could not wait to get out of there. I did not need word for this confirmation as his silence was enough. But then, his question came by leaving me utterly confused.
