DESTINY GAMES -
Chapter 363 - 363: Dignity In Death.
The higher vampire heard his question and became sober a little. It wanted to defend itself, but it felt that it wasn't important to defend itself.
It didn't care if it was right tor wrong about what it did, so it shook its head and said, "Forget about that. We have both done some wrong. But that doesn't matter now."
"What matters is that you are restricting my freedom. I can smell those humans. They are getting closer and closer to him. I can feel the taste of your blood. It is delicious. I can tell that they will be the most delicious thing that I have ever tasted."
"So let me go. Or you can bring one of them to me. I just want a taste. I'll give you anything for that taste. I'll even turn you into a vampire."
"What do you say to that? We can share the food and power together. We can grow stronger too. Just let me go. Or being one of them to me."
Crystal Magi was silent for a long time. During that time, the librarian was trying to convince him to give it freedom or food.
At first, the higher vampire was asking and making propositions in the form of a deal. But as time went on and the humans got closer, the higher vampire began to beg.
The higher vampire begged for freedom or a small taste of the humans. When it didn't get what it wanted, it began to snarl and roar. It began to resist against the mental shackles that kept it immobile.
As Crystal +agi gazed at the once high and noble libertarian turning into a rabid beast, he felt sorrow and despair. He had initially felt disbelief, but that has turned into pity and pain.
He sighed in defeat and said, "It seems you've lost yourself. You have been overtaken by the bloodlust. There is nothing left of you to save."
The higher vampire snarled at him. "If you won't help me, then let me go. I can take them myself."
Then it began to shout mentally. "You're just a traitor. You have no right to judge me."
"You're weak while I am strong. I am strong enough to admit that I am weak and embrace the need to grow stronger. But you have a backward mentality. If you don't seek to progress one day, you will be overtaken and left behind by people like me."
Crystal Magi couldn't listen to any more of this. He said, "I will do you a favor. I won't let the outsiders see you in this state. I also won't let them kill you. I will kill you myself and save you some dignity in death."
The high vampire raged against his mental shackles and shouted at him, "Keep your dignity to yourself. There is no dignity in death. I have seen a lot of death recently to know that. There is only the fear of the prey and the pleasure of the predator."
Crystal Magi didn't speak anymore. He let the invisible mental chains around the mind of the other librarian grow spikes. The spikes dug into the other's mind, which caused it to cry out in pain.
The spikes elongated and pierced deeply in the higher vampire's mind. Then the chains the spikes were attracted to began to move. This action caused the spikes to pull the mind apart and ground it.
The librarian's mind began to fracture. It was a painful process. It was the most painful thing that it could ever experience. Its body shook and jerked as its mind crumbled.
Even as its mind fell apart, it laughed and said, "This is not over. No, this is far from over."
"The die has been cast. You are either against me or for me. You are either a predator or prey. Since you have chosen to side with prey, prepare yourself to be eaten. That is the gospel of the blood."
At the end, when the higher vampire couldn't form any coherent thought in its mind, it became mad. It began to laugh. It cried and laughed in equal proportion.
But this state didn't last long. Its laughter became quiet as time passed. Its body shook less, and then it became completely still.
Crystal Magi sighed and thought to himself, "You are right about something. The die had indeed been cast. We have already invited two strong outsiders. It is unlikely that this whole thing will end peacefully. The Kunuts have to chance or they will be swept away by the winds."
His mind hovered above the body of the higher vampire. As he watched, the body cracked. Then it shattered all at once and turned into dust.
As this happened, a wisp of the higher vampire's mind rose from its corpse and fused with Crystal Magi's mind. This caused the librarian's mind to become stronger.
Crystal Magi was not surprised by this development. This phenomenon was common knowledge among strong librarians. It is known that if a librarian kills a higher vampire, they can harvest some of the mental power of the higher vampire.
This has never happened before. Librarians don't grow stronger by killing other Librarians. They grow stronger the more they eat and the older they become.
But something about the fragmented mind of a higher vampire counts as food for librarians. They can use it to gain strength quickly.
This power isn't the reason Crystal Magi killed the higher vampire, though. He would have killed the librarian even if it was just a lesser vampire.
He had killed the higher vampire for honor. So he wasn't exactly happy when he was rewarded with power.
He withdrew his mind from this unpleasant place and went elsewhere to find something redeemable in the city. But no matter how much he looked, there was nothing left to save.
Every inhabitant of the wayfarer had either become a vampire or food to vampires. Even the eggs and reproductives were not spared. Everything had been eaten or infected with vampirism.
