DESTINY GAMES -
Chapter 354 - 354: Organic Factory.
If the army sends out its troops to scout now, the base could be ambushed in their absence. And even if the scouts find the enemy, the army does have enough infrastructure to assure victory or at least stability in the possibility of defeat.
So the first thing the Yggdrasil army did was to set up a base and begin producing combat bots and drones of war. This was the normal protocol for invasion.
But this time, the army didn't use factories and mechanical tools to build metal bots. The conditions of the planet didn't allow for that.
The magnetic winds of the Umbra world were too strong. They affected electronics and metallic equipment too much.
Some equipment, like the armor, still could be used with the aid of energy shields to protect them from the influence of the magnetic field. But energy shields cost a lot of energy to run, and they can fail. Once energy shields fail, the hostile magnetic winds would be the thing to destroy the equipment.
So Command decided to build biological soldiers instead. It wasn't a decision they made at the moment or decided upon landing. This was a strategic decision that had been settled upon before the expedition took off.
The type and form of biological soldiers to use had also been determined. So when the base was being built, the refining machines were made of a fungi-like plant, and the assembly lines were made of many ant queens.
The fungi-like tree was a red plant that grew along the ground like a giant mushroom. It was soft like a mushroom, but its overall form was like a vine.
This fungi-vine hybrid grows by absorbing energy. Energy was supplied to it from the nuclear reactors, which it uses to grow flesh.
Its flesh is harvested by cutting and fed to the ant queens. The ant queens use the flesh as raw material to produce soldiers.
The fungi-like tree was a giant creature the size of houses. It grew quickly to a certain height and stopped growing vertically.
Then it starts growing horizontally by spreading into the surroundings. It can grow so much that it can become a forest.
The ant queens were not as large as the fungi tree, but they were taller. The fungi tree could only reach a maximum of five meters in height, but the ant queens could reach 10 meters in height easily.
What the ant queens were also producing were not weak young ants who required time and resources to grow into capable soldiers. Their offspring were giant ants 2 meters in height.
These ants came out of their eggs ready to fight. They were in different shapes and forms, but they all had a tough exoskeleton. This will protect them from the abrasive winds.
The soldiers of the army watched all of these happen in fascination. Kelvin was among them. He too was fascinated after the biological factory began producing its first batch of soldiers.
He was impressed with the preparations that the Yggdrasil army had made to subdue this hostile world. But he still had his concerns.
He thought to himself, "Is creating biological soldiers the best option? Isn't it just creating food for the vampires?"
If they were fighting other races, he might not care too much about the types of soldiers that were being produced. But he cares a lot because vampires feed on living things, and these soldiers are living things.
But he isn't concerned too much. He shook his head and thought, "If they were robots, vampires wouldn't be able to eat them. But I can't be the only one who has thought about this. I'm sure someone in command has considered the feasibility of using vampire food as soldiers."
He chuckled and said, "Maybe they decided to use food on purpose because of the vampires. Maybe these biological soldiers are baits, and there is a trap."
As someone who has been used as bait before to ensnare a demigod, he is very sensitive to the matter of traps and the scheming nature of the Yggdrasil civilization. So he can't put it past Command that they decided to use what vampires consider food as soldiers.
He said to himself, "It is not my job to think anyway. I don't have the clearance or authority to be included in their decision-making. My job is to fight."
He is just a two-star soldier. The level of information he has access to through the mark is not enough for him to find out why Command decided to use biological soldiers. He will need to reach the four-star level.
Currently, his job is to work with the Kunut army to uproot some of the known bases of vampire infestation on the planet. It is a dangerous job that not many soldiers want to do.
The core of the base has been built. The base is still being expanded and needs manpower for the construction work.
The army is also building bases in several other places. It appears that there will be more than one base, so there is a large need for manpower to achieve their goal.
Soldiers can choose to work on building the base or go out to find vampires and fight them. The number of soldiers that can do the latter is limited.
Attacking the vampire bases is currently not something the Yggdrasil civilization can do on its own. The army simply lacks the logistics and resources to support such planet-wide deployment. So they decided to work with the Kunuts.
Actually, if it were up to the Yggdrasil civilization, they wouldn't go looking for the vampires just yet. They were content with sitting back and building up their foundation.
If given enough time to do the things they plan, the Yggdrasil civilization is confident of victory. But they understood that they shouldn't leave the vampires to their own schemes too.
The Yggdrasil civilization wants to pressure the vampires and at least get updated information about their actions. They also wanted to help the Kunuts, who were already asking them for help after just one month of landing.
