Ahara took a deep breath once she was done reading, her grey eyes landing on her brother the next moment.
"Think we can shop all this in one day or should we do it little by little?" She asked.
Damien shrugged. "Depends, can we find all this in one place?"
"You bet we can! But first, we need to make a stop in the Draconic regional banks."
"Wait, isn’t that in the Asian region where you said the dragon shifters dominate?"
"Hmm," Ahara nodded at him.
"How are we supposed to get there?"
"Umm, portals, duh."
"Right."
Twiller chuckled at the pair, shaking his head. "It seems my presence here won’t be needed anymore. I’ll see you in January young Amaris, so you better take care of yourself."
"Likewise Principal," Damien replied whilst Ahara repeated the old man’s words back at him, waving.
Principal Twiller’s robe hadn’t even disappeared into the exit he took by the dragon statue before Kingston suddenly flashed behind Damien, his hand tapping the boy’s shoulder and making him jump in surprise.
"Congratulations, Damien!" He beamed at him.
Fighting the urge to smack the grin off the wolf’s face after the jump scare he just gave him, Damien gave him what he hoped looked like a happy smile.
"Thanks."
’You ugly freak!’
"So, are you going shopping today, or you ain’t?" Kingston turned to Ahara.
"No. It’ll be too crowded at the bank today. You saw how almost all the royal families have a child here right? Not to mention the businessmen and women who pushed their children’s recommendations. I’m pretty sure they’re going to buy their kid’s gear and books today from all the excitement bubbling in the air over there," she pointed at the exit points where only a few families were now standing.
Damien squinted his eyes at one family in particular—Ambrose’s. The mother was standing in front of her daughter, head held low as she accepted what looked like a small pouch from her husband. As for Amber, she looked livid and was glaring at her father despite her mother covering her.
’Another episode of family drama I see,’ Damien noted whilst Ahara continued her explanation.
"I’ll take Damien shopping once the year-end discounts start going off."
Damien stopped looking at the Rodante family and turned back to his sister.
"Wait, aren’t we filthy rich right now? Why would you wait until the discounts to buy me school stationery?" He furrowed his brows at his sister.
Ahara sighed. "No offense, but you might be too dumb for the explanation."
Damien’s face flashed an embarrassing red as he remembered his grades from back in the human world. But his pride wouldn’t allow him to be defeated just yet.
"Try me," he urged his sister.
Kingston chuckled. "He’s a little too determined for someone whose report card carried a lot of F’s."
"I’m serious!" Damien hissed at him embarrassingly.
"Since you insist," Ahara finally answered after snorting at his remark for a few good seconds. "You see, our money doesn’t come from investments like the other rich folk in Gibbous. Mom and Dad never thought much about that because they made a lot from hunting rogues and always said they’d start investing once they were settled enough to do business.
And as you can see, I’m not going on hunts so we’re currently spending a lot more than we’re making. Thus we’ll need to start loving discounts a little too much for the time being, at least until I do something about the investment problem and finally enroll myself back in the hunting business."
’Right.’
Damien nodded at her, remembering how Ahara had told him hunting Rogues was the highest-paying job in Gibbous. She never told him the details of how it really worked, and looking back at it now, Damien could see she was still doing her protective sister thing back then. Although now that he was a Gibforge student, he knew he was going to learn about it sooner or later.
"Okay, now that you know we’re not going shopping today, why don’t we go back home and get you in good shape for some shopping to happen in the coming weeks?" Kingston announced, glancing at Ahara.
Damien could see the subtle hint of his yearning for her attention, but she ignored him—something she had been doing since morning.
’Looks like they haven’t made up yet,’ Damien sighed in his head, taking Ahara and Kingston’s free hands before standing in between them like he was their child. He groaned in his head, not sure why he was doing this for Kingston, but he just couldn’t watch the two of them fighting anymore.
It was an eyesore.
’Guess I’ll have to play cupid for the coming days.’
