Defying the Rogue Alpha -
Chapter 92: Coconut
Chapter 92: Coconut
Justin shrugged dramatically, as if that were the most ridiculous question anyone had ever asked him. "She gives me crap like this all the time. She says it will help with your wolf."
Ava smiled, amused at the obvious suffering in the boy’s voice. "Smells like coconut."
Justin made a face. "And I get the nasty stuff instead," he whined, stomping away with all the melodrama of a man who had suffered too much in his young life.
Ava laughed under her breath, bringing the mug to her lips and taking a tentative sip. It was surprisingly... good.
"You want some?" she asked Dennis. "It’s tasty."
Dennis snorted. "Whatever Missy gives you is tailored for you and you alone," he said, eyeing the drink with suspicion, as if it might suddenly sprout legs and attack him.
Ava finished the last of the concoction, the warmth settling in her stomach. She pushed herself up and gathered the dishes. "I’ll take this to the kitchen."
Dennis immediately stood. "I’ll help."
Ava raised an eyebrow. "Dennis, there are two plates here. I think I can manage."
Dennis folded his arms "Do you really think there will only be two plates to wash in that kitchen?" he asked. "This building serves as the main pack house. About a dozen people live here, and we all use the same kitchen."
Ava huffed, conceding his point. "Well, I have to do something to help."
"I’m not disputing that..."
The plates slipped from Ava’s hands, shattering against the ground, but Ava barely noticed. A sudden, intense wave of heat surged through her body, knocking the breath from her lungs. Her vision blurred, and her knees wobbled.
Dennis’s strong hands caught her shoulders before she could completely collapse.
"Ava?"
"I..." she panted and then she felt the unmistakable, primal call of her heat.
Oh. Oh no.
Dennis’s hands tensed, his nostrils flaring as the scent hit him. His entire body went rigid, and before Ava could process what was happening, he stumbled backward, putting several feet of space between them.
Not because he wanted to.
Because he had to.
"I think..." Ava gasped, gripping the tree trunk for support as her body betrayed her completely.
Dennis’s breathing turned ragged, his hands curled into fists as if he was fighting himself.
"You’re in heat," Dennis bit out.
Ava’s eyes widened in panic.
Oh, this was bad.
Both of them stared at the empty mug on the ground.
The same mug Justin had handed her. The one Missy had insisted she drink.
Ava’s pulse pounded in her ears.
"I’ll go get Missy," Dennis managed before tearing off in a blur, leaving Ava struggling to keep herself together.
The heat was getting worse fast, and she had no idea how long she could keep from completely losing it.
Seconds later, Dennis returned with Missy, who took one look at Ava and winced.
"Oh boy," Missy muttered, rubbing her hands together. "That is not good."
Ava clung to the tree for dear life, sweat beading along her forehead. "You think?!"
Missy’s eyes twinkled with mischief.
"The concoction was supposed to help connect you with your wolf," she explained, not even trying to hide the amusement in her voice.
Ava let out a suffocated moan, her body trembling, her nerves on fire.
Dennis? He was losing his mind.
He had come across women in heat before. Normally, it didn’t affect him this much. Normally, he had enough control to ignore it, to brush it off as a part of their nature.
But with Ava?
His entire body was reacting.
And that? That was very, very bad.
"Get her inside, Missy," Dennis ordered.
Missy sighed. "Dennis, nothing can stop this. It’s only going to get worse."
Dennis’s head snapped toward her, his control hanging by a thread. "What the fuck do you want me to do?"
Missy gave him a pointed look. "Find her mate. Or...someone here is going to have to help her."
Ava’s head snapped up. "What?"
"Oh, darling..." Missy began sweetly, but Ava wasn’t having it.
"No!" Ava snapped. "You gave me the concoction. You fix it."
Missy smirked, clearly enjoying the chaos she had created.
Dennis? He was seconds away from breaking something.
"Missy, get her inside," he ground out again.
Missy nodded. "Yes, Alpha."
She wrapped an arm around Ava, guiding her toward the building while Dennis stood there, barely holding himself together.
What the hell was happening to him?
He had never reacted like this to a woman in heat.
Why her? Why was his control slipping so fast?
And more importantly...
What the hell was he supposed to do about it?

Dennis stood at a safe distance from the building, arms crossed tightly over his chest as if the pressure might keep his insides from combusting. His breathing was erratic. He wasn’t about to step foot inside that place, not while Ava was suffering through what Missy had done to her.
Missy approached him, arms swinging carefreely as if she hadn’t just turned his entire world into a ticking time bomb.
"There are no unmated men in the building anymore," she announced, hands on her hips. "But how long will you stay out here, and how long will she suffer through this?"
Dennis turned his burning gaze on her.
"You did something, Missy."
Missy met his gaze, utterly unrepentant. "Yes, I did. You both asked for my help. I gave her a mixture of coconut and lustroot to enhance her spiritual connection. The heat thing is just a happy coincidence."
Dennis inhaled sharply, nostrils flaring. His control was slipping, and he knew it. "Not to her. To me. You did something to me."
Missy blinked at him innocently. "Alpha... Why would I? I would never!"
Dennis’ entire body vibrated with frustration. "Missy, I am currently warring with everything evil inside me to keep from going in there. I have been around women in heat before. It barely registers. The only explanation is you did something to me."
Missy tilted her head, studying him. "Alpha, I did nothing to you. Her wolf will always call out to the most dominant person around her. It is the power she carries that calls you. So, as much as she suffers in there, you will suffer out here too."
Dennis swore under his breath, turning away from her to face the trees instead. He needed something to punch.
Missy sighed dramatically. "So stubborn,"
"What can I do to help her?"
