Chapter 47: 42. Not only the beginning, but the entire process and conclusion of this date were all wrong.
Judging by the number of people, the dolphin show was undoubtedly the most popular attraction at the entire aquarium, with the stands filled to capacity.
Strangely, however, no one sat in any of the front rows all around; everyone crowded towards the back.
"Why doesn’t anyone want to sit in the front? Wouldn’t it be clearer to watch from there?" Dubian Che asked Kiyono Lin.
In his mind, Kiyono Lin was basically synonymous with a know-it-all.
Before she could reply, Yuzao Haomei jumped in with an answer:
"Sitting in the back row means you don’t need to buy a raincoat. I recommend the fourth row; it’s just far enough not to get wet and yet the closest."
Having said that, she looked defiantly past Dubian Che towards Kiyono Lin.
Kiyono Lin nodded and politely responded, "I see, thank you, Yuzao."
"You didn’t know either?" Dubian Che replied, slightly surprised.
"It’s my first time at the aquarium, but one could probably guess the reason with just one glance," Kiyono Lin said, her gaze flickering as she watched the dolphins, "Let’s hurry."
Though she didn’t show it too overtly, the Literary Girl Kiyono Lin was rarely this eager; it seemed that, indeed, women couldn’t resist cute animals.
Meanwhile, Yuzao Haomei was clearly dissatisfied: "Little Che, compliment me."
Dubian Che pointed to the staff by the poolside: "It’s about to start, let’s hurry and find our seats."
Yuzao Haomei stood still, not letting Dubian Che go: "Compliment me."
"You’re amazing," Dubian Che said resignedly with a play on words.
Yuzao Haomei arrogantly glanced at Kiyono Lin, who had already moved towards her preferred seating.
"Hmph." Yuzao Haomei felt deflated and even her grip on Dubian Che’s arm weakened.
Dubian Che took the opportunity to pull his arm free and quickly followed Kiyono Lin.
Kiyono Lin chose a spot right in the fourth row by the aisle, next to a young mother with a child.
As she sat down, she waved cutely to the child and then immediately fixed her gaze on the dolphins.
The young mother, seeing Dubian Che also approaching, probably assumed they were a couple and moved her child onto her lap, making space for one more person.
"Thank you." Dubian Che smiled at the child and happily sat down.
Just when he thought he could take the chance to avoid Yuzao Haomei, she forcefully sat beside him, making the space crowded instantly.
The young mother looked at the three of them, arms touching arms, and her gaze suddenly shifted.
Her child on her lap was still captivated by Dubian Che’s smile and stretched out chubby little hands with round, transparent eyes towards him.
The young mother blocked her child, forcefully turning his face in another direction.
If the child had been a little older, she might have been giving him a "this brother is a bad person, don’t learn from him" type of love education now.
Ikeda Nakako and Kosu Yishu weren’t so lucky and ended up in the last row, but it was not too different.
The performance was indeed spectacular, with the dolphins leaping and gliding in the water, interacting with the sleek-bodied staff, creating a dynamic display of water and rhythm.
The dolphins were healthy, and naturally, the splashes were high.
Perhaps Dubian Che was particularly loathed, for among so many people seated in the fourth row, only he happened to get splashed by a wave.
"Didn’t you say the fourth row was safe?" he said, wiping his wet face.
Yuzao Haomei covered her stomach and giggled: "You’re just too unlucky! Ahahaha—I’ve been here so many times and have never seen someone in the fourth row get splashed!"
She pulled out a beautifully packaged tissue from her bag.
"Here, wipe yourself off."
"Thanks."
Just then, the dolphins leapt high again, and the attentive Kiyono Lin followed them with her head raised.
After this jump, the fifteen-minute show reached a brief intermission, with the dolphins resting by the edge of the pool, having their heads stroked by the staff.
Kiyono Lin couldn’t help but want to stand up for a closer look at the dolphins.
"Ah!" she exclaimed softly and immediately sat back down.
"Mr. Dubian."
"What is it?" Dubian Che, absorbed in wiping off water, replied.
She sighed helplessly, "You’re sitting on my skirt."
"Ah, sorry." Dubian Che looked down and indeed, part of Kiyono Lin’s high-waisted white skirt was under his seat.
Yuzao Haomei, watching this scene, said discontentedly, "Little Che, why don’t you sit on my skirt?"
"Ah?" Dubian Che was startled, not quite grasping the situation.
"By sitting on her skirt, you’re treating her as someone close, not minding the distance. You didn’t sit on my skirt, which means you still feel distant from me, right?"
"It’s because you forcefully sat down and shoved me over, isn’t it?"
"Excuses! Even if I shoved you over, if you’re not close with her, you’d still be mindful of keeping a distance, wouldn’t you? Sitting next to a girl you’re not close with, a guy would be gentlemanly and make sure not to touch her."
"...Your words seem to make sense, but I am not a gentleman."
Dubian Che originally wanted to say ’I’m not a gentleman, I’m a "Tokyo hottie",’ but he didn’t quite live up to that and let it be.
Yuzao Haomei silently stared at Dubian Che, at a loss for words for a moment.
Kiyono Lin, ensuring her skirt wasn’t wrinkled, began to smile, "Mr. Dubian, do you already have a crush on me?"
"I’d have a crush on a dolphin before I’d have one on you; rest assured."
"You don’t like dolphins?" Kiyono Lin’s face turned cold instantly.
Was that really the point?
Yuzao Haomei hummed in triumph, "Little Che must like penguins, wait, I’ll show you the penguin photos I just took."
"Penguins?" Kiyono Lin’s eyes flickered, "Are there penguins here?"
