Chapter 129: Connection Restored

Chapter 129: Connection Restored

Her eyes lit up, a green glow replacing the corrupted purple. All her scales trembled and pulsed. A new power surged through her body, driving her forward.

"DIE!"

*BOOM!*

Her wings thundered, and her claws ripped through the ground and sky with unstoppable force.

The ordinary Risen didn’t even have time to react. They started dropping like ants. The leader, though, darted through them, trying to hide.

*BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!*

But the fierce woman’s gaze and movements kept tracking him endlessly. She roared and attacked nonstop, trying to catch him, while he used his minions as a shield as he moved.

Within a minute, devastation spread like wildfire.

All the Risen on the planet were warned and began moving that way. But where she stood, a sea of corrupted bodies already covered the ground.

At the same time, with every passing second, that Risen leader felt her closing in tighter and tighter. Running wouldn’t help. Those bugs swarming her wouldn’t save him. He felt it clearly—pure terror.

Until he froze.

Then he pulled something hidden in his body, nestled in that purple flesh. It was a small transparent pearl, faintly glowing.

Niara saw it from a distance, surprised—she didn’t sense any corruption from Risen power. It seemed like a...

"!"

She widened her eyes when she watched the Risen shatter the pearl.

Immediately, the space around them distorted. Something far away connected to this spot, and a portal began forming behind the Risen.

She’d heard of stuff like this. In the past, these artifacts were everywhere—scattered across the Academies and throughout the universe. They were pretty common: a pearl born already linked to a galaxy’s core, waiting nearby.

If anyone broke that pearl, it didn’t matter where they were in the universe—it’d create a temporary connection. A stable spatial channel that anyone could cross easily to the other side.

Back in the day, it was the most practical intergalactic travel method and used by everyone, but nowadays you only read about it in books.

’He wants to run?’ she thought, narrowing her eyes in fury.

But...

As soon as the channel formed, he didn’t budge.

Instead, he wore a mocking grin.

Suddenly, Niara felt the entire environment freeze around her. It was the solid presence of death wrapping her up.

A pair of red eyes appeared within the portal.

Then, a four-meter-tall figure covered in purple scales stepped through.

It was a Risen Chief so powerful, the planet’s air trembled as he arrived.

The place—already almost drowned in miasma—lost its last bit of light. Everything was consumed by corruption.

Niara fell from the sky as if a crushing hammer pressed her down.

She mustered every ounce of strength to stand, and with great effort, lifted her gaze. In the darkness, only two red eyes glowed, distant and staring at her coldly.

’Why would such a powerful being come? Why... in my final moments...?’

Suddenly, she felt her body lifted, blood rushing up her throat.

All her energy was sealed, and she was pinned by an overwhelming force. The Risen appeared like a ghost before her and grabbed her by the neck.

No words were exchanged. He just stared at her, then moved his other arm.

*CRACK!*

He tore one of her wings off brutally, blood spraying everywhere.

He stared at her—but she didn’t cry out in pain.

She just looked back with a cold, emotionless gaze. Then, a twisted smile crept onto her lips.

"Think you’re getting off easy?"

He sealed the power inside her body.

But...

She smiled as she remembered what she’d learned from her partner, right in those first moments they met down in that underground prison.

He’d briefly explained: her Bloodline was from a Primordial Dragon—the most powerful being born directly from the heavenly laws at the dawn of the universe. No mortal or any other force in the universe ranked above that Bloodline.

A mere Risen sealing that? Not even a Risen Lord could do it.

She hadn’t planned to use that power, since it could only be activated once—and the Risen in that region would’ve died from her normal power anyway. She could kill way more without tapping into it. But now... the perfect opportunity had arisen.

Her eyes lit up. All the power of the Cataclysm of Life flowed into the draconic Bloodrunic patterns in her veins.

A true, magnificent cataclysmic explosion was about to erupt at full force.

Would it kill him? Probably not. But it would wound him so badly that he might get taken out by another Risen looking to claim his spot afterward.

It would be an end with some taste of victory.

With a snort, her whole body pulsed, making her enemy’s eyes go wide.

’He told me to trust him...’

In her mind, there was only frustration.

’Idiot...’

...

Suddenly...

*Thump! Thrump!*

"!"

Her body immediately reacted, as if there wasn’t a single soul left inside. She felt something inside her vibrate, and the pounding of her heart made her eyes snap open.

Then... she felt a nearly nonexistent connection—one she hadn’t even known was still there—restored.

*Thump! Thrump!*

Her own heart was beating like a drum.

Her eyes trembled.

Everything she’d forced herself to believe collapsed in an instant. Her frustration and despair were instantly replaced by euphoria.

The Risen choking her felt an instinctive sense of danger. The thick miasma choking the area shivered—as if sensing the presence of something so terrifying it repelled its very existence.

First he looked around, tense, then his gaze snapped back to the bloodied figure in front of him.

"!"

Suddenly, millions of black strands were connected to her body. They came from every direction, snaking through the air before embedding themselves in her skin, as if being absorbed by her.

The Risen realized what those strands were—and his eyes went wide—this was the life-force of all the Risen after all. What terrified him most was he’d seen something like this not long ago... when a Risen Lord absorbed the power of thousands of fallen Risen in battle.

So his mind froze in confusion, trying to understand how such a powerful figure could be here.

Before he could move, something shifted in the slit of Niara’s blood-soaked dress. He felt it and looked at her again. Right between her breasts, a small bulge formed, moving the fabric.

Everything happened in just a few seconds.

*Wooosh!*

In an instant, a white torrent exploded with such intensity it blinded everyone present.
