Chapter 925 - 922: Want to Take You Home
Chapter 925: Chapter 922: Want to Take You Home
Tong Xiaohua rolled out of his embrace, resting her head on his arm while gazing upward, lost in the myriad of stars above.
Seeing that she wasn’t willing to talk more, Yan Bo didn’t press her further, simply patting her head and rubbing his face a few times against her slightly cool forehead. Then, he laid back in her fashion and quietly watched the stars in the sky.
After a while of mutual silence, it was Yan Bo who broke it.
"Xiao Hua, I’m going to go home for two days next Friday."
Tong Xiaohua kept gazing motionlessly at the night sky, briefly acknowledging with a faint "Oh..."
Yan Bo turned his head slightly, silently watching her for a while.
"Would you come with me?"
Ever since he had met with Tong Xiaohua’s parents and his older brother that day, Yan Bo had been considering taking Tong Xiaohua home to meet his own parents.
However, he wasn’t sure if Tong Xiaohua would want to go back with him.
After all, the days they had spent together weren’t exactly long.
And he could somewhat imagine that bringing her home would likely lead to a period of upheaval.
But since he had already decided that he wanted to be with her for a lifetime, it was only right to seek his family’s blessings sooner rather than later. Evading the issue, in fact, would be irresponsible to Tong Xiaohua.
Initially immersed in an inexplicable feeling of depression, Tong Xiaohua was snapped out of her reverie by his question and didn’t quite grasp it at first.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
She thought she must have heard him wrong, as despite the commitment they had made to each other, the time they had truly spent together as a couple wasn’t considerably long.
"Next Saturday is my mom’s birthday, and I want to take you home to meet them."
Yan Bo didn’t hide the reason for his return; he laid it out straightforwardly.
Tong Xiaohua was startled, "Ah? Your... mom’s birthday? Going there... wouldn’t that be... a bit inappropriate..."
The thought of facing not just one or two, but potentially more unfamiliar elders made her inexplicably fearful.
Normally, very few things in life made her feel afraid.
Yet with Yan Bo, she kept experiencing this fear over and over.
Beyond that, she had also encountered a self so full of insecurity that it didn’t resemble her at all.
Yan Bo tightened his hold on her hand, bringing her back into his embrace, "What’s not good about it? Isn’t it a normal thing? Look, you’ve brought me home to meet your parents, and now I want to take you home to meet my parents and family. Isn’t that normal?"
What Yan Bo said made sense, and Tong Xiaohua found herself without a rebuttal.
Still, she felt like she didn’t have the courage yet to go home with him to meet the elders.
"How about... I pick out a nice gift, and you give it to your mom for me, okay?"
It was strange for Tong Xiaohua to feel stage fright.
Yet now, just by imagining meeting his parents, she was already so nervous her whole body tensed up.
Gently stroking her arm, Yan Bo lowered his gaze to look at her, although he couldn’t clearly see the expression on her face under the dim light.
"Actually, just you being there would be the greatest gift."
He could somewhat guess the fear at the bottom of her heart, but avoiding the situation wouldn’t solve anything.
Tong Xiaohua remained silent, wrapping her arms around his neck and moving her head that was buried in his chest, ultimately resting it on his shoulder.
"Yan Bo, could you give me some time, please?" It was hard for her to explain, but the mere thought of his parents whom she had never met naturally made her want to back away.
Perhaps, it simply wasn’t the right moment.
Or maybe she just wasn’t ready yet.
Yan Bo had resolved to persuade her to accompany him home no matter what, as he was eager to have their relationship recognized by his dearest relatives.
But now, hearing the pleading words, he simply couldn’t bring himself to force her into anything.
"Yan Bo, I will definitely go back with you, but just not right now. A bit later, okay?"
Yan Bo, unable to harden his heart, ultimately could only nod in agreement.
...
On Monday, after seeking her mother’s opinion, Tong Xiaohua went to the jewelry store and bought a gift. In the evening, she arranged to have dinner with Yan Bo and took the opportunity to hand over the gift for Yan Bo’s mother.
Compared to dining out, Yan Bo actually preferred home-cooked meals. After consulting Tong Xiaohua’s preference, he had Aunt Xin prepare a big table of delicious food.
He himself, after finishing work, made a special trip to the flower shop to buy a bouquet of white roses.
At seven in the evening, Tong Xiaohua rang the doorbell of Yan Bo’s residence as arranged.
Yan Bo came out to open the door, and after giving her a big hug as she entered, he took out the couple’s slippers they had bought together and asked her to put them on.
"Yan Bo, this is a birthday gift for your mom. Can you please give it to her for me?"
Yan Bo took the gift bag and kissed her on the lips.
"Thank you!"
Tong Xiaohua bent down to change shoes, and he stood quietly to the side waiting.
He didn’t lead her by the hand into the living room until she had changed her shoes.
Aunt Xin had finished cooking and had left a few minutes earlier.
Yan Bo brought her into the living room and involuntarily pulled her into a long and passionate kiss.
Tong Xiaohua leaned in his arms to catch her breath for a while, and it wasn’t until she regained her composure that she pushed him away to wash her hands in the bathroom.
As soon as Tong Xiaohua’s feet stepped into the bathroom, Yan Bo’s reminder came from behind.
"Turn the faucet to the left for hot water. It’s getting cold; use hot water to wash."
"Oh, got it!" Tong Xiaohua replied as she turned the faucet to the left, letting the warm water gently and soothingly run over her hands, feeling very comfortable.
She pumped some hand soap and rubbed her hands together, then rinsed them clean with warm water. Just as she was about to straighten up, a towel was handed to her face.
"I see you often don’t wear makeup. Since that’s the case, wash your face too; it’s refreshing and comfortable."
Tong Xiaohua received the neatly folded towel, obviously brand new, "Thank you!"
Yan Bo didn’t respond to her, nor did he leave right away. Instead, he silently leaned against the bathroom doorframe with his arms crossed.
After Tong Xiaohua washed her face and hung up the towel, she turned and met Yan Bo’s dark gaze.
"Uh, you almost scared me to death."
Tong Xiaohua patted her chest, truly frightened by him.
Yet, faced with her displeasure, Yan Bo remained silent, just watching her unblinkingly.
Tong Xiaohua slightly furrowed her brow and reached out to take his hand, "What’s wrong?"
Compared to Yan Bo’s depth of knowledge about her, Tong Xiaohua admitted that her understanding of him was neither deep nor thorough.
And often, he presented himself before her in the guise of someone who was tolerant and... doting... a giver.
"Did something happen?"
In a rare initiative, Tong Xiaohua slowly led him out of the bathroom by his hand.
Yan Bo had his patience, waiting until she led him by the hand into the dining room and sat down. Only after she had personally served him a bowl of soup and passed it to him did he take the bowl with both hands and finally spoke.
"Thank you!"
Tong Xiaohua paused for a moment, her inquisitive eyes meeting his deep gaze.
