Chapter 924: Chapter 921: Fear of Gain and Loss Syndrome
Striding forward with long legs that made all the men fiery with jealousy, he leisurely picked up a bath towel and wrapped it around his waist.
The eyes of most men and women in the bathhouse involuntarily followed his long legs as he moved.
Those explicit stares made Tong Xiaohua feel very uncomfortable. She leaned on the ladder rack and silently watched him wrap the bath towel around himself as if no one else was there; then, he picked up her towel, walked over to her, and with a flip of both hands, the towel became a curtain of fabric that shielded the exposed parts of her body from the view of others.
Tong Xiaohua climbed two steps up the ladder rack and peeked her head out, squinting her eyes at him as she looked up.
"So, you’re this conservative?"
Yan Bo shook his head, "I’m not conservative; I just don’t want you to be seen by others. You didn’t see how those people were looking at you, as if they wanted to devour you!"
All of Tong Xiaohua’s discomfort instantly dissipated, and she felt emotionally balanced again.
She arched an eyebrow at him, playing it cool, "What, jealous?"
Yan Bo nodded firmly, "Yeah, any man would be jealous!!"
Tong Xiaohua had already climbed up the ladder rack, her long and straight white legs stepping over to where Yan Bo stood.
"Yan Bo, the Third Young Master, you’d better keep a close eye on me."
Yan Bo wrapped Tong Xiaohua up tight with the bath towel, pinching her waist, "Don’t worry, I’ll lock you down soon."
Both Tong Xiaohua and Yan Bo, having stretched their limbs to their heart’s content and in great spirits, finished bathing and got dressed in the dressing room, then returned to their small villa feeling refreshed.
The temporary nanny arranged by the resort informed them, "Mr. Tong and Madam Tong have gone for a nap and suggested you two should sleep for a while as well."
The bedrooms of Tong Xiaohua and Yan Bo were right next door to each other. Yan Bo helped Tong Xiaohua open her door but stood in the doorway, not leaving.
"Not going back to sleep?" Tong Xiaohua, standing inside the bedroom, asked as she held onto the doorknob.
"You’re not inviting me in for a sit?" Yan Bo seemed to have a plan in mind or perhaps simply wanted to sit inside.
However, after the near loss of control at the pool just now, Tong Xiaohua dared not invite him in so casually.
If Yan Bo were to start talking to Tong Xiaohua about self-control now, she would absolutely understand.
"Roll back to sleep, I’m tired!"
Tong Xiaohua glared at Yan Bo, pretending to be fierce. Yan Bo, not intimidated at all, stepped forward with a smile, took her hand resting on the doorknob, leaned in close, and kissed her wary face.
After kissing her face, he kissed her nose, and finally, his lips found the corner of hers. With a light bite on her lips, he swiftly pulled away after her pained gasp, laughing as he said, "Good afternoon!"
Without pause, he pushed open the door of the adjacent bedroom and swiftly darted inside.
It wasn’t until she heard a "bang" of the door closing that Tong Xiaohua snapped out of her daze, smacked her forehead, cursed herself for being an "idiot," and then annoyed, she shut the door.
Why was it that he always managed to behave so confidently and directly in front of her, while she always felt like a little fool being twirled around his finger?
And the most infuriating part was that despite this, she felt a hint of sweet delight bubbling inside her at that moment?
Tong Xiaohua pulled the quilt over her head, trapping herself under it, and with great difficulty, amidst a whirlwind of restlessness and slight lack of oxygen, she eventually drifted into a fuzzy sleep.
In her dream, she vaguely saw a familiar figure walking arm in arm with a tall woman. As she approached, she realized that the man was Yan Bo, and the woman, wearing a happy smile and holding his arm, was not her—Tong Xiaohua.
Tong Xiaohua woke up in a cold sweat, still curled up under the quilt, breathing a little uneasily. No wonder her heart felt terribly uncomfortable.
The dinner was hosted by Zhang Chengzhi, with five people sitting in a villa built by the mountain stream. The three elders chatted enthusiastically, while Yan Bo, knowing that Tong Xiaohua loved eating crab, was peeling a crab claw for her.
After setting down her tea cup, Tong Xiaohua’s thoughts inevitably returned to the vaguely familiar face from her dream, still feeling a bit stifled.
Yan Bo finished peeling the crab claw and placed it in her bowl, asking with concern, "Did you not get enough sleep?"
Tong Xiaohua looked up at him, her eyes somewhat blank.
Yan Bo looked slightly worried, but in front of the elders, he couldn’t say anything too explicit or act too intimately.
His probing gaze swept over her, "You were fine just now, why do you seem so distracted? Eat the crab claw quickly. What else do you want to eat? Shall I peel it for you?"
Tong Xiaohua mechanically picked up the crab meat and ate it. However, the usually delicious crab meat tasted like wax in her mouth today; it had no flavor at all.
Yan Bo noticed her unusual behavior and, after watching her hastily eat the fourth piece of crab meat, he couldn’t hold back anymore. He stopped peeling the crab, cleaned his hands with a wet wipe, and touched her forehead.
"Do you have a fever? Why do you look so listless and dispirited?"
Hearing Yan Bo’s question, the elders all turned their attention to Tong Xiaohua at once.
"Xiao Hua, are you feeling unwell? Did you catch a cold from swimming?"
Shen Weiyao, her mother, asked while already standing up, eager to check on her precious daughter’s condition.
Tong Xiaohua took away Yan Bo’s misleading hand from her forehead, "Mom, I don’t have a fever. I just didn’t get enough sleep."
Her excuse was not believed by anybody at the table, but no one called her out on it. After confirming she indeed didn’t have a fever, the elders continued chatting and Yan Bo resumed peeling shrimp and crab shells for her.
It wasn’t until she let out a satisfied burp that she started coming back to her senses and looked apologetically at the pile of crab and shrimp shells that had become like a small mountain in front of Yan Bo, picking up a piece of shrimp and putting it to his mouth.
"You eat! I’m starving. If someone doesn’t peel crab and shrimp for me later, I’ll be in trouble."
Yan Bo opened his mouth and took the shrimp that he had peeled for her into his own mouth.
After dinner, the two grabbed a blanket and a cushion and went to the backyard Lawn to stargaze, lying together on the same cushion, covered by the same blanket.
"Xiao Hua, are you troubled by something?"
Yan Bo pulled her into his embrace, allowing her head to rest on his arm and her chin on his chest.
Tong Xiaohua had been despising herself since dinner, knowing she shouldn’t be so needlessly jealous and insecure—after all, it was just a dream, completely unrelated to reality. If she really told him that she was upset because he was walking with another woman in a dream, he would surely think her childish and irrational, wouldn’t he?
"No..."
Yet even now, that suffocating feeling in the depths of her heart was still acutely present.
Yan Bo gently brushed her hair with his lips, his arms cradling her back, "But you look anything but untroubled."
She usually had a good appetite, especially for food she liked; her eyes would always shine bright. But her demeanor just now indicated she probably couldn’t even taste what she was eating.
