Chapter 841 - 838: Are You Afraid I’ll Cling to You?

Chapter 841: Chapter 838: Are You Afraid I’ll Cling to You?

"Yeah, I was afraid you’d get impatient and run off, then who would I turn to?"

Yan Bo laughed in reply, his bright eyes thoroughly sizing her up before the smile slowly faded, replaced by a look of full-blown concern.

"Why does it look like you’ve lost weight? Is work really tough? Or are your classes too heavy?"

Tong Xiaohua was momentarily stunned, struggling to adapt to his abrupt shift from a beaming smile to an expression of serious worry.

She paused for a second, then touched her face unconsciously, "Lost weight? Not really, it’s still chubby!"

Tong Xiaohua always thought her face had a bit of baby fat. Although she didn’t rely on her looks for a living, she still had the vanity of a young girl.

Yan Bo still stared at her, "Where’s the chubbiness? You’re all skin and bones!"

Tong Xiaohua laughed out loud, "Tch, you sound almost like my dad! Don’t worry, I’m in great shape, and a little weight loss isn’t a problem; it makes clothes look better."

On her way here, Tong Xiaohua had a delayed realization that she and he weren’t exactly close. So, would having a meal together be awkward? Would they run out of common topics and end up in awkward silence?

Now it seemed she didn’t have to worry about an awkward silence, for this man seemed to have a kind of magic that easily drew her into an oddly engaging atmosphere of conversation.

Clearly, she and he were barely closer than strangers, meeting for only the fourth time, yet his words felt like those of old friends who hadn’t seen each other in ages, intimate without losing concern, causing her also to have the illusion that she had known him for years as an old friend.

Yan Bo leaned back slightly, surveying her from head to toe once more.

"You look good in anything, no need to starve yourself like those idols pursuing some ’skinny’ beauty only to end up looking like a paper-thin person, that’s downright uncomfortable to look at."

Tong Xiaohua was quite straightforward before, but now, hearing his words that weren’t exactly compliments but somehow sweeter than any praise, her face heated up slightly, and she glanced away briefly before noticing the book on the table, quickly pushing it towards him.

"Yan Bo, can you help me look at these few points? I’ve been looking over them and just can’t figure them out."

Yan Bo watched as a thin blush spread across her face and neck, feeling a wave of sweet contentment ripple through his heart.

He leaned back slightly, trying hard to control the palpitations within him, and took a deep breath in secret to calm his racing heart.

Tong Xiaohua was oblivious to the fact that her unusual behavior caused Yan Bo’s hormones to surge several times over.

Feeling him retreat a bit, she glanced at him with a slightly reddened face, tilting her head.

"You’re not tricking me, are you?"

Yan Bo’s attention was still fixed on her flushed face and fluttering long eyelashes. Uncharacteristically, he asked dazedly, "Tricking you about what?"

Tong Xiaohua grew a little angry, sitting up abruptly and turning to glare at him.

"Financial issues, obviously. Are you saying you don’t know any of it?"

The thought that she had let herself be coaxed into a meal for such a clumsy reason made Tong Xiaohua start to scorn her own IQ.

Her huffy appearance snapped Yan Bo back to reality.

He took a deep breath, straightened himself and said with a smiling face, "Don’t worry, I didn’t lie to you. I may not know the professional-level stuff, but I should still be able to tutor you on general-level questions."

Tong Xiaohua glared at him, "You better be!"

"Speaking of which," she spread the textbook open in front of him, "look here, take a look!"

Yan Bo didn’t take offense at her poor attitude. He leaned over, glanced at the section her slender finger was pointing to, organized his thoughts briefly, then took out paper and a pen from his bag and swiftly wrote down a few steps.

"Here, you don’t understand what’s written in the book, so take a look at this data I’ve written, can you make sense of it now?"

Tong Xiaohua took the sheet of paper from his hand and read it carefully, seeming to understand a bit.

"Is the relationship listed in the textbook the same as this?" she asked Uncertainly, looking at Yan Bo.

Yan Bo nodded, "Yes, it’s exactly that relationship. If you don’t believe me, try reading this page from the beginning again, see if it’s much clearer?"

Tong Xiaohua then seriously compared the sheet of paper with the content in the textbook, while Yan Bo used the opportunity to quickly skim the menu.

"Ah! Why am I so stupid! It is indeed the relationship you’ve written out, but your method is simpler and clearer. Why doesn’t the textbook explain it your way? It would be so much easier to understand."

Having grasped the part she hadn’t understood but now had, Tong Xiaohua pushed the textbook back in front of Yan Bo, pointing out the sections for him to see.

Yan Bo smiled and praised her, "See, you are actually very smart, it’s just that the textbook’s approach is too outdated."

Tong Xiaohua’s face naturally broke into a brilliant smile when praised.

"It’s a pity you don’t have the time, otherwise having you tutor me would definitely be better than my current teacher."

Yan Bo, unusually, didn’t take the opportunity to press for anything for himself, "No, what you see is only one side. What I’ve told you is all theoretical knowledge. Your teacher is an accountant already, right? She can teach you to handle many practical issues you’ll encounter when working, so, it’s a bit more practical."

Tong Xiaohua closed the textbook, tilting her head and looking at him, "Why? Are you afraid I’ll cling to you?"

Yan Bo laughed, "I’d love for you to cling to me! But I can’t let my own interests harm you, can I?"

Tong Xiaohua also laughed at his candor; honestly, she quite liked this aspect of his character.

He was frank, always direct with his intentions toward her, yet always chose, very gentlemanly, the option that aligned with her interests when personal gain conflicted with her benefit.

"Alright, let’s talk about studying later, okay? Let’s order first! We need a full stomach to have the energy for studying." Yan Bo handed the menu to Tong Xiaohua.

Tong Xiaohua glanced down at the menu without any intention of taking it, "You order, I’m pretty easy when it comes to food."

Thanks to Uncle Guan, Tong Xiaohua found any simple meal outside to be a delight, so she wasn’t picky.

Seeing this, Yan Bo said, "Alright then, I’ll just order anything. If you don’t like what comes, you can order something else."

Tong Xiaohua truly wasn’t fussy about food, so she didn’t expect much from this meal; after all, her aim in meeting was to have Yan Bo clear up her confusion, not to fill her stomach.

However, when the waitress brought the dishes out one by one, Tong Xiaohua ate with great relish.

"Mmm... Yan Bo, this fish is very delicious, you should try some!"

Tong Xiaohua assumed all the food here was tasty, and that Yan Bo had just happened to order dishes that suited her tastes.

Little did she know that Yan Bo had actually chosen the dishes based on the preferences he had observed when he ate at her house that day.
