Chapter 1095: Chapter 1092: Xiao Lizi and Baby Boy. Extra (53)
Yan Xu slightly furrowed his brow but, due to the presence of an outsider and considering Bai Lu’s face, he endured and let Bai Lu rub his head a couple of times.
But in fact, ever since he was young, he had disliked anyone touching his head, elders in the Yan Family being the exception, of course.
Bai Lu, on the other hand, had been used to rubbing Zong Xiaoyan’s head since childhood and, after finishing, would habitually curve her finger and lightly flick Yan Xu’s forehead.
With a "pop," a soft sound, despite the action being very gentle, it made Yan Xu shiver deeply.
The shiver was fleeting, which made Yan Xu wonder: was that tremor just now a physical shudder or was it, perhaps, his heart that had fluttered?
Whichever it was, for him, it was an extremely unfamiliar feeling.
Thrown into Jun Camp by his great-grandfather and grandpa when he was just a few years old, his adaptability and psychological endurance were unparalleled.
No matter how perilous the situation, he was always able to remain calm and composed, but just now, his mind had experienced an instant of blankness.
Yan Xu, unable to discern his own feelings, looked down at Bai Lu pensively.
Bai Lu retracted her hand with a smile, stuck out her tongue at him, making a funny face, then turned around to pass her mobile phone over the scanner to pay.
The young man placed several large bags of items back into the shopping cart, and Bai Lu, looking at the full cart, turned to Yan Xu with some regret and said, "Had I known, I would have driven here. There’s so much stuff... Or should we take a taxi back instead?"
There was no way she would allow Yan Xu, with his physique, to carry heavy objects.
It was only then that Yan Xu came back to his senses, reaching out to push the shopping cart, "I told Uncle Wen to drive here to pick us up. He should be waiting in the parking lot."
Seeing that Yan Xu had finally returned to his usual look, Bai Lu let out a slight sigh of relief.
"You’re the smart one!"
Yan Xu pointed amusingly at the mountain of items on the shopping cart, "It looks like you’re trying to clear out the supermarket. If we didn’t call Uncle Wen, we’d have to carry everything back using a carrying pole."
Bai Lu touched the tip of her nose sheepishly, "Sorry, I’m just used to it..."
Yan Xu had no intention of blaming her, "What’s there to be sorry about? I’m just curious, you said you were buying body wash, so how did you end up with a bunch of stuff completely unrelated?"
Bai Lu grew even more embarrassed, "Actually, it’s just habit. I rarely go to the supermarket, so when I do, I tend to buy a lot of supplies..."
Yan Xu glanced at the snacks occupying most of the cart and his lips curved into a slight smile, teasing her in good humor.
"Don’t doctors always tell patients not to eat this or that? But from what I see, everything you’ve chosen is considered junk food by doctors."
Originally, in Yan Xu’s eyes, doctors all had an extremely stiff image.
But the more he was around Bai Lu, the more he realized she was nothing like the doctors he had imagined.
Of course, her superb medical skills were beyond reproach.
Setting aside her necessary professional skills as a doctor, she was actually a very interesting young lady.
Bai Lu clicked her tongue twice, looking at him with disdain.
"Young Master Yan, that’s what you say to patients, not to me; I’m not sick, so of course, I don’t need to abstain from anything. Besides, beef jerky or spicy chicken feet with a small drink—that’s a miracle cure for staying alert during overtime!"
Just then, Uncle Wen, who was not far away in the car, honked the horn twice. Yan Xu pushed the shopping cart over, and Uncle Wen got out of the car and came over to take the cart.
Yan Xu seemed to be persuaded, "Alright, I’ve been too superficial, then. How about, Dr. Bai, you treat me to some meat and a small drink later?"
Bai Lu shook her head with a smug look, "You’re a wounded soldier, I can’t take you out to play."
The two got into the car one after the other, and Yan Xu was still not giving up, "How about I snack on some things, drink water, and you drink wine?"
Bai Lu thought for a moment and gestured with her fingers, "As for snacks, maybe a little bit is okay..."
Yan Xu smiled, "Then I’ll have just a little bit. After all, with Doctor Bai here, I definitely won’t eat the wrong things or too much."
Bai Lu curled her lip, "You make it sound like you’re so obedient."
It took the two more than ten minutes to walk, but Uncle Wen drove them back to the Yan Family home in just two or three minutes.
Uncle Wen and the butler carried several big bags of food and supplies back to the living room, while Bai Lu took the bag of toiletries away. The rest of the food was placed on the coffee table in the living room.
After taking a shower, Bai Lu came out to find Yan Xu, dressed in homewear, sitting cross-legged on the sofa with a thermos cup in hand. Seeing her, he waved at her.
Bai Lu seldom saw him so relaxed, and without thinking, she instinctively walked over and plonked herself down next to him.
"Young Master Yan, this doctor is offering a 50% discount on consultation fees tonight. Spill your guts, whatever’s on your mind!"
As she spoke, she leaned on the sofa with one hand while reaching into one of the big bags on the coffee table with the other and pulled out a can of cocktail. She popped the ring pull with a "snap" and touched it to Yan Xu’s thermos cup.
Yan Xu smiled as he looked at her, "Doctor Bai, when did you become a psychologist?"
Bai Lu tipped her head back, took a swig of the drink, licked her lips and chuckled, "Oh, you’re quite knowledgeable, aren’t you?"
Yan Xu nodded, "Of course, in our special profession, we frequently meet with psychologists before and after each mission."
Bai Lu’s face, originally full of mirth, suddenly reined in her smile upon hearing this.
But Yan Xu maintained his smile, clinking his thermos cup against her drink can, "Doctor Bai, don’t be like that; it’s nothing serious, just routine procedures."
Even though Yan Xu brushed it off lightly, Bai Lu knew the reality wasn’t so simple.
She hadn’t spent an overly long time in the Jun District Hospital, but she had seen quite a few soldiers from Jun Camp who, despite recovering physically from special experiences, could never return to their original positions.
As a doctor, she understood more than anyone that psychological trauma is often much harder to heal than physical wounds.
"Yan Xu, do you know? When I found out you chose this path instead of being the comfortable Young Master, I was first surprised, and then, I thought, this is exactly the kind of choice you would make."
Yan Xu raised his eyebrows, looking at her with curiosity.
"How so? I always thought you’d think I’m mad, like most people do."
Bai Lu glared at him, emphasizing with dissatisfaction, "Hey, I’m one of your childhood sweethearts, how could I think like most people?"
Yan Xu quickly admitted his mistake, "Yes! You’re one of the few; I was wrong!"
Bai Lu was finally satisfied, "Ever since we were kids, you’ve always appeared to be a cocky young master, haughty and distinguished..."
Now it was Yan Xu’s turn to glare at her.
Continuing with a smile, Bai Lu said, "But in reality, your heart is stronger than anyone’s, especially in front of your mommy. One moment you could be soft and cute like a little kitten, and the next, you turn into a fierce lion, protecting your mommy behind you. Of course, back then you didn’t physically have the strength to do that, but mentally, you’ve always been incredibly strong and resilient!"
