Cucking The Demon King
Chapter 79: Eva’s blessing

Chapter 79: Eva’s blessing

Liam slowly approached the woman, his expression unreadable.

His steps were calm, deliberate.

But to Eva—

Each step felt like thunder crashing against her chest.

Her breath hitched, and she instinctively backed away, keeping as much distance between them as possible.

Her body screamed at her to run.

But—

She didn’t dare turn her back on him, feeling like her head could roll off if she tried to.

Liam ignored her previous question, not finding it necessary to answer.

He could see the way her teeth gnashed in frustration at his indifference.

But just as quickly as the anger rose, she forced herself to calm down.

She knew better than to provoke the strange man in front of her.

Eva’s fingers tightened around the edges of her coat, her mind racing.

’I thought this would just be an easy mission... but this is—’

She swallowed, her face turning pale.

’This is crazy.’

She had encountered many things in her line of work.

Mages, assassins, even knights from the Holy Church—

But never had she imagined she would come face-to-face with a high-rank demon!

Her fingers trembled.

’This is bad,’ she mumbled inwardly.

Eva half-expected Liam to lash out at her at any moment—

To kill her without hesitation.

But—

He didn’t.

He simply stood there, staring at her with narrowed eyes.

His gaze flickered toward Ratna’s lifeless body lying behind him.

Liam let out a low sigh.

’Seems like that old man was the only real person in this place,’ he thought.

It was almost funny to think that—

Everything else had been illusions.

The people.

The tables.

Even the barrels of ale stacked behind the counter.

All of it.

His gaze snapped back to Eva, his golden eyes gleaming.

’Now, back to you...’

With a single thought—

’Eye of Truth.’

A transparent screen materialized in his vision.

Liam’s brows knitted slightly.

’Her mana pool is higher than my energy...’

That was rare.

Most humans didn’t have mana reserves this vast.

But what surprised him more was—

She was human.

His eyes darkened slightly.

’A human, yet possessing a darkness-related blessing.’

She was a heretic.

Heretics were those who had forsaken the Holy Church—

Selling their souls to the Demon King in exchange for power.

Because of this—

They could wield shadow and darkness magic.

But compared to true demons, their abilities were usually weaker.

Yet—

Liam could tell, just from her stats alone—

She was strong.

Her mana pool was higher than his.

Her magic power was on par with his.

No wonder she had been able to conjure such powerful illusions.

’Still... what was she trying to achieve by luring me here?’

His gaze flickered back to Ratna.

’And why did she try to poison me?’

If he had been anyone else, he might have—

Fallen victim to the poison.

He might not have even noticed it.

Would he have simply died?

Or—

Would she have used him for something else?

Liam’s expression darkened.

He exhaled slowly, before speaking—

"Why don’t you tell me, Eva..."

His voice was calm, yet sharp.

"What exactly are you doing here?"

Eva flinched.

Her lips parted slightly—

Then pressed into a thin line.

’H-How does he know my name?’

She hadn’t told him anything.

She had only cowered in fear.

So how?

Her mind raced.

As expected of a high-rank demon...

’He’s probably already decided to kill me.’

Her breath shuddered.

But strangely—

A small, bitter smile formed on her lips.

’At least I’ll know I died in the hands of someone strong.’

Yet, one thought nagged at the back of her mind.

’What the hell is a high-rank demon doing in a place like this?’

Something wasn’t adding up.

Her mind swirled with unanswered questions—

Until—

Liam’s bright red eyes sharpened.

A wave of pressure crashed down on her.

Her breath hitched.

The hairs on her arms stood on end.

"I-I... I was..."

She tried to speak.

But her voice faltered.

She clenched her fists.

’If he’s really a high-rank demon...’

’Shouldn’t he already know why I’m doing this?’

Her eyes darted across his face, studying him closely.

Now that she actually looked at him—

He seemed far too young to be a high-rank demon.

And then—

Her thoughts clicked.

’Wait...’

’He struggled against my illusion. For a while.’

A true high-rank demon would have dispelled it instantly.

They wouldn’t have been affected in the first place.

Eva’s lips parted slightly as a chilling realization hit her—

’Is he... really a demon?’

She swallowed.

And for the first time—

A flicker of doubt crossed her trembling eyes.

Liam, noticing the subtle shift, his face squeezed into a frown.

He had seen that look many times before.

The look of someone who was starting to question everything.

’She seemed so terrified of me before, I wonder what changed.’ He thought.

A small smirk formed on his lips.

"Go on," he said.

His voice was calm.

Patient.

But beneath it—

Lurking just beneath the surface—

Was an undeniable, suffocating pressure.

Though he didn’t know what exactly was making the heretic afraid of him, he had no choice but to keep up the facade.

If he wanted to find out what she was truly doing here, then making her believe he was far stronger than her mignt be the best option.

Eva’s fingers trembled, and she casted her gaze to the ground, gnashing her teeth in annoyance.

He was clearly taunting her.

She could take a risk and try attacking him.

If he was indeed pretending to be an high rank demon, then she would easily be able to subdue him, and nothing would stand in her way.

But if she turned out to be wrong, then she was in for a world of trouble.

’He’s been talking for a while now, and not once did he ask me to kneel before him... no high rank demon can ever be that humble!’ She thought, her eyes lighting up with a strange glint.

She had only met a high rank demon once in her life, but that experience was completely unforgettable.

She could still remember it... that heavy pressure bearing down on her neck, the feeling of her knees being forced so deep into the ground that it bled.

Even now, that heavy presence still lingered in the back of her mind, always reminding her of what would befall her id she tried to resist.

’It was horrifying...’ She mumbled inwardly, tightly clenching her jaw.

Compared to that, this was practically child’s play.

Though they were quite similar, that was all.

She could easily tell the pressure oozing from Liam was a lot weaker, and barely held a candle to what she could remember.

The only reason it terrified her as much as it initially did was because it woke up the trauma buried deep within the heart.

But now that she knew it was only a farce, all she felt was anger.

She slowly raised her head up, looking Liam straight into his eyes.

Liam immediately noticed the shift in her expression, and the frown on his face deepened.

His plan to bluff his way out of this had practically been ruined now.

’Damn it.’ He thought.

Eva’s lips curled into a small smirk.

"You think I’ll fall... for your cheap trick," She muttered, her voice dripping with scorn.

Then—

She slammed her palm onto the ground.

A sudden wave of darkness pulsed outward.

Liam’s eyes widened.

Sharp cracks echoed across the empty tavern.

And then—

BOOM!

The wooden floor beneath Eva shattered.

From the cracks—

Five massive thorns erupted, twisting and spiraling toward the ceiling.

But they didn’t stop there.

More dark tendrils wove together—

Forming into monstrous shapes.

Liam’s gaze sharpened.

’What the hell is she doing?’

Within seconds, the twisting vines merged, taking the form of five grotesque creatures.

Their bodies were entirely made of thorns, coiling and shifting as if alive.

From their jagged frames—

A thick, black smoke oozed, curling into the air.

It shrouded their forms like a dense fog, hiding their true shapes beneath its shadowy embrace.

Their arms were grotesquely long, stretching almost to the ground.

Each fingertip ended in a jagged, blade-like thorn.

Their legs spread outward, sprawling like a spider’s web, firmly anchoring them to the floor.

Liam’s heartbeat quickened.

"This is bad," he muttered.

Without hesitation—

He leapt backward, flipping through the air to create distance.

But—

The creatures didn’t hesitate.

As soon as he moved—

They lunged at him in unison.

Their movements were unnatural—

Fast, erratic, and distorted.

The dark smoke trailing from their bodies left a shadowy afterimage, making it difficult to track their actual positions.

’Damn it!’ Liam thought, as one of the strange creatures suddenly swiped its claw at him.
