Chapter 25: The truth about the Demon King

Lilith said, chuckling softly.

’The demon king...’ Liam thought, his brows furrowing into a slight frown.

He had heard a lot of things about the entity called the Demon King, a being with great power, who ruled over the bloodthirsty demons.

His name was known as Deamos, the one who descended unto the world a hundred years ago, leading the army of demons.

About seventy years ago, the first knight king, Arthur Silvagold charged into his castle, challenging him to a battle.

The battle raged on for about three days, as the two power houses refused to give in to each other.

After a tough battle, the knight king eventually came out on top, though not without him accumulating critical injuries.

However, what he didn’t know was one of Deamos’ subordinate had hidden in the area, waiting for the right moment to attack.

At that particular moment, he struck; launching a beam of corrupt mana right at the knight’s heart.

Normally, Arthur would have sensed such an attack from a mile away, but he had let his guard down, and was focusing only on the demon king.

Due to that mistake, he embarrassingly lost the fight, and Deamos and his subordinate escaped, thinking they had already killed him.

Unbeknownst to them, he had shifted slightly just before the attack hit him, so he was able to avoid his heart getting crushed.

However, he still sustained grave injuries, which effects lingered even after they were healed.

The knight king might have survived death at that moment, but the fatal damage left by the strike greatly shortened his lifespan, and he died about ten years later.

’But then...’ Liam thought, the frown on his face deepening in confusion. ’I’ve heard anything about the demon king wives.’

If the demon kings wives were as important as Lilith say they were, shouldn’t they also be mentioned at least once in the history of Atras?

Lilith spoke, and Liam’s eyes narrowed in confusion.

Lilith continued, her tone turning a bit more serious.

’W-what?’ Liam thought, chuckling to himself.

If what Lilith said was true, then the humans on this world had only been fighting a very tiny fraction of the demon army.

Though no one was sure of the true goal of the demons, the humans in this kingdom had always thought that the demons’ were from a different dimension they called Hell.

Hell was a world of suffering and torment in their belief, where those who stray from the path of the benevolent goddess of light were going to go after their death.

As for the demons, they were the ruthless monsters who were there to punish the sinners, making them with each breath they took was their last.

If only they knew how wrong they were, and that the army they were warring against weren’t even taking them serious.

’Millions of powerful demons poured into this world... yet those are only a tiny fraction...’ Liam thought, his face twisting into a frown.

He couldn’t help but wonder how many types of demons were scattered in other worlds... and how powerful they truly were.

Lilith said, her tone filled with hate and disgust.

Even though she was talking about someone who terrified even gods, there was no bit of reverence in her voice.

’If the demon king is that powerful, then why do you hate him so much? And why does it have to be me who defeats him...?’ Liam asked, his eyes narrowing slightly.

Each of the demon lords were the embodiment of whatever sin they carried, holding different territories within the demon world.

There was Lucifer; the demon lord of Pride, Beelzebub; gluttony, Leviathan; Envy, Belphegor; Sloth, Satan; Wrath, Mammon; Greed and finally, Asmodeus; the demon lord of lust.

They each had millions of demons under them, who also carried the same sin as their Lord. Those demons were what made up the ’sin tribes’.

’Asmodeus...’ Liam thought, his brows creasing slightly.

The name sounded very familiar to him for some reason, like he had seen it somewhere before, but he couldn’t remember where exactly.

Even after wracking his mind to remember where he heard or saw the name, he still couldn’t remember.

It felt like it was covered in a thick fog, which refused to go away no matter what he did.

He simply brushed the matter off his mind for now, deciding to focus on Lilith’s narration.

[Everything was fine; no one overstepped their boundary, until two hundred years ago... when Mammon’s greed went out of control... and he wanted all seven sins for himself.]

[I’m not sure how he did it, but he found a way... a way to strip the other six demon lords of their sins.]

Lilith continued, the hate in her voice growing even stronger.

She could still remember that day like it was yesterday.

Mammon had called the other six demon lords together, claiming there was a huge threat they had to address.

However, he suddenly pulled out a large, glowing orb, and before the others knew it, their sins were forcibly pulled out of their bodies, sucked into the orb.

It all happened so fast that none of them could react, despite being great powerhouses.

Lilith was only a young succubus at the time, who had accompanied Asmodeus to the meeting.

She had watched as they fought with all their might against Mammon, but without their sins, their power was greatly reduced, so they were no match for him.
