Chapter 110: Volume Epilogue [1]

[Pandora Academy.]

[Velyrian’s Office.]

The light remained dim in the large room filled with different innovative things.

An elf with blonde hair cascading behind him, sat on a wheelchair staring blankly at the half-made staff in front of him.

The long desk was cluttered with old scrolls, broken crystal shards, metallic pieces, and blueprints with scribbled notes.

Velyrian didn’t move from his place.

His fingers rested on the armrest of the wheelchair, pale and unmoving.

The half-made staff on the table pulsed faintly, threads of magic twitching through its core, yet something about it remained incomplete.

.....It was broken.

Just like him.

’He was right.’

Velyrian thought, pinching the bridge of his nose.

’...The diagram has a lot of flaws.’

It wasn’t a failure for nothing as his own master had said it’s not worth working on.

’Still, it’s good that I asked him.’

He remembered what the wheat-blonde-haired boy told him.

....How to make this thing at least function properly.

Even though Velyrian was grateful for his help.

He was still extremely wary of that boy.

’I can’t forget the nightmare even if I want to.’

Velyrian clearly remembered what he saw that day.

How he saw his whole world getting destroyed by Akamir’s hand.

Thinking about it, his hand, subconsciously, fell onto his chest.

Where his heart should be....which was now replaced by the Ven core.

"What does this damn thing even want from me?"

He thought, his eyes red from anger.

"Why did it even enter my body?"

The question echoed in his mind, but no answer came.

Only the soft hum of the Ven core beneath his chest.

It was quiet all the time, but it was always there.

Velyrian gritted his teeth and leaned back into his chair, letting out a heavy sigh.

Though, there was one more thing that bothered him as much as this.

Drawing in a soft breath, he grabbed the photo frame on his table.

The one that had the picture of his daughter.

The picture was blurry but was enough to make his heart melt.

’I wonder...how are you doing everything alone.’

How long has it been since he left her?

Thirty? Thirty-five?

He wasn’t sure.

The passage of time was always screwed for an elf.

He just sighed, placing the frame back as he closed his eyes.

Perhaps things would have been different if he wasn’t obsessed with the Ven core.

....Maybe, he would have been a great father then.

’My wife would have killed me if she was there.’

He thought, smiling when he remembered her.

’I turned into a male for her yet....’

Velyrian let out another sigh.

Though he was born with the constitution of a female.

He turned into a male when he met his wife.

Elves only love one person in all their life and can only change to one gender.

’Maybe...I should visit my daughter soon.’

Though, he wasn’t so sure if his daughter will accept him.

A soft breeze drifted through the half-open window, rustling the papers on his desk.

Velyrian opened his eyes as he moved forward.

"Huh?"

Only to fall down his chair as his chest began to burn.

"URGHH!!!"

Velyrian yelled at the top of his lungs as he grabbed his chest.

The pain felt like his chest was being filled with lava.

The pain didn’t stop but it kept building, making it difficult to breathe.

Velyrian’s vision blurred as he tried to grab anything, knocking over a box of gears that clattered loudly across the floor.

His hands trembled as he clutched his chest, where the Ven core pulsed violently under his skin.

It glowed through his robes, shining a dull, angry red.

"What... is this...?" he gasped, his breath ragged.

His back arched involuntarily as a second wave of heat surged through his veins.

"Stop... Stop it...!" Velyrian shouted, trying to force it back down with his mana.

But the core didn’t listen.

It rejected him, pushing his own mana out of alignment.

The pain snapped his consciousness as his body fell down helplessly.

---

’Huh?’

When Velyrian regained his consciousness, he found himself in the same starry sky.

His body was turning into a cluster of glowing light with mechanical veiny legs.

’W-What is happening now?’

He wondered, looking around the place to find anything or anyone.

Yet...

It was still the same.

Nothing but a vast emptiness.

Velyrian blinked, trying to comprehend what happened.

But...

His vision blurred once again.

Now, his consciousness stood in front of a Sun.

Not an ordinary one.

But.....

’....’

A broken Golden Sun.

Velyrian’s soul trembled violently as he finally understood where he was.

’Oh, God.....’

He was in the presence of an Outer God.

[Zaina’s POV.]

Zaina always had a dream since her childhood.

A contradicting dream that she never understood.

On one hand, she wanted to live a normal life with a normal husband.

Yet...

On the other hand, she wanted to be a hero who saves everyone.

A warrior in shining armor like a healer with hands that never failed.

Someone people could believe in. Someone who didn’t let others cry.

But life, she’d come to realize, wasn’t as simple as dreams.

’Why is this happening?’

Zaina wondered, groaning as she opened her eyes.

It’s been quite some time since she had noticed it.

The speed at which her body was taking in mana had changed considerably.

Her body was far more attuned to mana than ever before.

’...Was it because of the Avatar thing?’

She wondered to herself, not sure if that’s the real reason.

Zaina sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes. The dorm room around her was quiet.

Her head still felt a little heavy.

Her body... strange.

’At this rate, wouldn’t I be a yellow core soon?’

She wondered to herself, not sure if she should be happy or not.

’No, I should be happy.’

She thought, suppressing the negative things away.

With more power she could have better control on her own life.

She could do what she wanted and marry whoever she loved.

’....’

At the thought of marriage, a boy’s face came to her mind.

The boy with wheat-blonde hair and crimson eyes smiling at her.

Zaina blinked innocently, trying to remove the image but it didn’t work.

She blushed as she stood up from her bed. "Stupid."

Though that made her wonder....

’Is a princess more important or an Avatar?’

Zaina would have been lying to herself if she said she didn’t like Akamir.

And....

How could she not like him?

He always gave her the vibes of a loving and responsible father.

The one thing that Zaina never got from her own.

Zaina reached for her comb, trying to distract herself as she fixed her hair.

Her cheeks were still warm.

"Ugh... Why am I even thinking about him like that?" she muttered under her breath.

She wasn’t the kind of girl who got easily flustered.

She’d trained herself to be calm and collected but when it came to Akamir... everything became a mess.

Zaina sighed.

’Get a grip. You’re not twelve.’

Zaina roughly placed the comb down as she moved towards the window.

The moonlight still shone over the place, gently touching her face.

Zaina stared at the moon with her ember eyes.

Her mind thinking of one thing again and again.

’Can I take him away from the princess?’

It sounded wild to her.

She was a daughter of a baron and Inara was a potential queen of the kingdom.

Zaina wasn’t really sure if she felt jealous about it.

How she had the first choice over everything.

’I can either share with her or try to snatch him away.’

And Zaina wasn’t really keen on sharing.

Zaina leaned on the windowsill, resting her chin against her hand.

’Snatching him away...’

It sounded harsh even in her own mind. But it wasn’t like she could help it.

Every time Akamir talked to her, really looked at her—it made her feel like she mattered.

Like she wasn’t just another noble girl trying to prove herself.

He never looked at her like she was weak.

And somehow, that made her want him even more.

"I’m being stupid," she muttered. "I don’t even know if he feels anything like that."

She fanned her face that was becoming hotter by her every thought.

Zaina let out a sigh as she thought of something funny.

’I wonder how the church will react if they know my thoughts.’

An Avatar of their sacred goddess thinking about such things.

’Yeah...their blood will definitely boil.’

She chuckled as she turned around.

"Hmm?"

Only to stand there stupefied as she wasn’t in her room.

Zaina rubbed her eyes as she looked around the foggy place.

’...What happened?’

She wondered to herself as she looked around in confusion.

"Hello?"

Zaina slowly began to walk forward.

She stepped forward cautiously, her bare feet brushing against a surface that didn’t feel like solid ground.

It was soft, like a cloud, but the fog around her was thick and heavy.

She couldn’t see beyond a few steps in any direction.

"This has to be a dream..." she mumbled.

But how could this even happen?

Who did it?

Zaina got her answer soon enough.

Only a few steps away from her stood a woman.

She who wore nothing but black on her body with her face covered with a veil.

The woman carried a lantern in one hand that glowed softly.

Zaina immediately recognized her.

’Goddess Morana.’

"How have you been, my child?"

Her voice echoed in Zaina’s mind, soft and eternal.

"Why?" Zaina asked, her voice trembling. "Why call me here?"

She smiled. "To tell you what you must do."

In the vast cosmos surrounding the world.

The real powerhouse has begun moving.
