Chapter 42: I love you

Chapter 42: I love you

Nadine inhaled deeply, well aware of her son’s watchful gaze.

"Kenneth Beaumont, your father, was from a powerful lineage, a family of mountain wizards that were well known and feared. Most of the Beaumonts were not really good people and as a result, they had lots of enemies. To protect me and our family, he left his life of magic behind..." Nadine trailed off, a small smile playing on her lips as she recalled some distant memories. Her husband had made a huge sacrifice, one that had ensured their survival.

"You have his blood and you might be able to do magic." She concluded and Alexander felt a ray of hope spring alive in his chest. He could be able to break the curse and save Damon.

"Thank you for telling me, mother." Alexander beamed, his aura instantly bright as he hurried to get out of bed.

"Where are you going in such a hurry?" She asked curiously.

"To find Damon." Alexander replied as he placed a quick kiss on her forehead before dashing to the door.

Damon’s eyes fluttered open to the sound of his door opening and a lazy smile adorned his lips once he saw Alexander standing at his bedside.

"Hey, you." Alexander whispered as he sat down by his side, his mind registering the fact that Damon was fine.

"Hey." Damon replied as he sat up, only to get surprised by the sudden hug he got from Alexander.

"Is everything alright?" Damon asked, quite worried at the lengthy embrace.

"Yes, I just missed you." Alexander smiled sweetly when he pulled away and Damon returned the smile.

"I missed you too." he replied as he leaned in and placed a quick kiss on Alexander’s lips.

Alexander was momentarily distracted by the kiss and his treacherous emotions were not helping him concentrate on the new information he wanted to tell Damon.

He blinked to avert his eyes from Damon’s lips.

"Damon, I found out something interesting today. Long story short, I might be able to do magic. I can save you." he spoke his thoughts and Damon blinked, disbelief and something akin to hope coloring his eyes.

"Really..." he breathed, not quite believing that he might have a chance to live beyond twenty five.

"Yes and I am going to start practicing my magic soon." Alexander smiled softly, totally understanding his reaction. It was quite difficult to believe.

"I am going to live." Damon chuckled weakly, his mind coming to terms with the idea as he embraced Alexander in a tight hug. At that moment, Damon was entirely certain he loved this man. Alexander had not only given him hope for a brighter future but proof that he was someone worth fighting for.

"I love you, Alex." He whispered the words, his heart racing. Damon had known for a while that he loved this man but the fear of dying and leaving him behind had held him back from confessing his love. Now, he had hope so, why not?

Alexander was caught off guard by the confession and yet his chest felt warm as he pulled away from their hug and gazed at Damon.

The short silence in between them as their eyes met made Damon nervous as thoughts flooded his mind. Had he confessed too soon. Was Alexander going to say he loved him too?

The warm, soothing emotion in Alexander’s eyes as he cupped his cheeks hurriedly dispelled his worries and Damon shivered slightly when a soft kiss was placed on his forehead,

"I adore and love you, Damon." Alexander breathed, his voice deep and emotional before he leaned in and sealed their lips in a sweet, passionate kiss.

A knock at the door interrupted their make out session that was quickly becoming more physical and passionate. Damon’s hands that had found their way beneath Alexander’s shirt froze and Alexander reluctantly tore his lips from Damon’s neck with a sigh.

He couldn’t help feeling quite frustrated at the interruption.

"Lunch is ready." His mother announced from the other side of the door.

"We will be down in a second." Alexander replied as he swept his hand through his hair, hoping to make it a little decent and after one lingering kiss, they made their way downstairs.

The delicious aroma of food filling the air made their stomachs grumble in hunger and Alexander couldn’t wait to see Damon’s reaction after he had tried his mother’s food.

Damon did little to hide his amazement as he chewed slowly on the food in his mouth, blissfully unaware of the eyes that were pinned on him, gauging his reaction to the food.

"How is it?" Nadine asked, a knowing smile playing on her lips as she looked at Damon.

"The food tastes great." Damon replied in a heartbeat, making Alexander smile.

"I am glad you like it." Nadine replied, feeling quite fluttered that a prince liked the food that she made.

"Damon, do you know how to cook?" Aya asked curiously and the entire room grew silent, everyone eagerly waiting for Damon’s response.

Damon felt a little embarrassed because he couldn’t even light a stove!

Living in a castle all his life had ensured that he stayed away from the kitchen.

"I don’t. Sorry to disappoint." He apologized.

"It’s alright. I can teach you if you want." Aya offered, clearly enthusiastic and Damon was surprised that she could cook and he...well, couldn’t.

"Pray tell, what can you cook?" He asked.

"I can cook tea and make bread. Mother, also promised that she could teach me how to make a stew when I am older." Aya beamed.

She was the most talkative ten year old he ever met but he didn’t mind.

"I will teach you how to make bread later." She offered.

"I will be delighted to learn from you." Damon replied.

After lunch, Alexander couldn’t resist sneaking Damon out of the house before Aya could monopolize all his attention.

"Where are we going?" Damon asked curiously as he savored the feeling of holding Alexander’s hand in his.

"I am taking you to my favorite spot." Alexander disclosed and Damon’s heart warmed up only for jealousy to creep in a second later when he imagined Alexander taking some other person to his favorite spot.

"Am I the first person you are taking to this place?" Damon asked and Alexander paused to get a clear look at his face.

"This might shock you but yes...you are the first." Alexander smiled, leaning in to place a quick kiss on his cheek.

Damon’s jealousy from his thoughts was satiated.

"Were you jealous?" Alexander asked his voice lightly teasing the man that was walking beside him.

"Yes, of course I was jealous. You are my boyfriend, Alexander and it’s only natural that I am possessive." Damon agreed brazenly making Alexander grin.

"Being your boyfriend certainly has a nice ring to it." Alexander agreed, his voice low and seductive as he gazed at Damon.

Damon could feel his cheeks flush under Alexander’s intense gaze.

Here he was, strolling through the forest with the man that he loved.

Damon considered himself quite lucky and blessed that he had got to met this man.

The soft breeze was in sync with Damon’s mood as he held onto Alexander’s hand.

He felt happy and content and he exhaled softly as his eyes locked onto the spot where his fingers entwined with Alexander’s.

Oh... Damon was certain he could hold this man’s hand forever.

Forever....

The word echoed at the back of his mind as he seemed to remember that his future was not entirely certain and that spending forever with the love of his life was just a blissful wish.

Damon could feel his brows furrow into a soft frown at the trail his thoughts were taking.

He was with Alexander at the moment and that’s what mattered most. The present moment.

"You are so quiet, love." Alexander commented as he continued to lead the way.

Damon’s lips curled into a small smile at the affectionate reference.

"Love? I like the sound of that." He purred as he snuggled closer to Alexander who grinned in response.

The narrow path they were on opened into a clearing in the woods that was simply breathtaking.

Damon’s eyes lit up at the sight of the gently flowing river that was surrounded by numerous wild flowers.

Something about the place was calming and it made sense as to why Alex liked this spot.

"This is it." Alexander announced, his voice beaming with joy as he swirled around to face Damon.

"It’s beautiful." Damon uttered the words on his mind as he looked around before his ocean blue eyes settled on Alexander’s face.

"I am glad you like it." Alexander smiled, his warm gaze melting Damon’s heart.

"Do you come here often?" Damon asked curiously as they removed their shoes to soak their feet in the water.

"Yes, at least thrice a week whenever I am around." Alexander replied as a sigh of satisfaction escaped his lips at the feeling of the cool water washing over his legs.

Damon stepped closer to him his eyes glistening with a mischief that made Alexander gulp.

"Alex..." Damon whispered seductively as he stood an inch away from him.

"Mhm..." Alexander murmured, his body temperature starting to rise as he struggled to keep his hands at his side only to lose his cool when Damon placed his hand on his chest.

"I want to see you...wet." Damon breathed, his intense blue eyes flickering with desire as his palm ran a lazy path down Alexander’s torso.
