Chapter 32: reckless baby
Eamon smiled faintly at the complaint. He had noticed how the dragon was quite very protective and possessive of him.
He wasn’t used to it but he didn’t mind it.
Valerion was a dragon and he knew that’s how they all were when it came to their mates.
In the evening, Eamon sat in a chair, silently watching Valerion who was cooking for him.
The dragon had told him he could do a lot of things but Eamon still found it strangely fascinating.
He had insisted on helping out but Valerion gently refused him and Eamon couldn’t help feeling like he was being pampered.
Valerion had picked out most of his clothes and jewelry and also appointed himself his body guard.
"I am not the best cook but I can help." Eamon repeated, feeling a little disheartened at the fact that he was doing nothing.
Valerion was quick to rush to his side once he sensed the subtle displeasure in his mate’s aura.
"I just don’t want you to get accidentally injured. You could get burnt." Valerion explained, his voice sincere and Eamon fought the urge to roll his eyes from frustration. He wasn’t some reckless baby waiting around to directly touch the flames!
"You cannot protect me from everything." He pointed out matter of factly, his voice as gentle and calm as he could make it.
"I know." Valerion admitted as his shoulder’s dropped.
"I will try my best not to get hurt." Eamon assured and Valerion smiled faintly.
"Okay." He agreed and together, they prepared dinner and once the meal was done, Valerion tugged Eamon into his room.
Once the door was locked, Valerion removed his belt and replaced it with a soft cotton rope.
He gave Eamon one too as he walked towards the bed.
Valerion’s eyes burned with both desire and lust as he watched Eamon take slow yet steady steps towards the bed.
Something about the way the candle light highlighted his fine features stirred up the heat in Valerion’s body.
Tonight, Valerion could try not to pounce on his mate and startle him in the process.
Once Eamon was under the covers, Valerion pulled him into his arms and he was surprised at the warm and comfortable embrace as he let his head land on Valerion’s chest.
"Goodnight." Valerion whispered, his voice thick from restraint as he hesitantly placed a kiss on top of Eamon’s head.
The small action sent a shiver down Eamon’s spine and kept him awake for a few more minutes, his heart racing.
Why was he starting to like this dragon!?
He was here on a mission but Valerion’s actions were making it quite difficult to stay detached.
Eamon exhaled softly as he closed his eyes and savoured the warmth from the body pressed close to his.
He didn’t want to let Damon or his people down but at the same time, he didn’t want to hurt Valerion.
Eamon was quite conflicted as he slowly drifted off into a deep slumber.
.....
Damon stood by the large window of his room, looking out into the serene night.
The room had been cleaned and arranged properly but there was the faintest smell of smoke that still lingered in air.
Damon sighed softly as he thought of Eamon, silently hoping that he was okay.
A pair of strong arms came and wrapped around him, disrupting his train of thoughts.
"Come to bed, Damon. You need to get some rest and it’s quite late." Alexander’s voice sounded beside his ear, sending a tingling sensation through Damon’s body.
He looked over his shoulder and smiled when their lips met in a soft kiss.
"I am worried about Eamon." Damon admitted as he let Alexander lead him towards the bed.
"Knowing Eamon, I sure he is fine." Alexander assured as they slid beneath the covers and cuddled close to each other.
"Princess Carina is leaving tomorrow." Damon informed him and Alexander kissed his head, knowing Damon was going to miss her as well since the two had grown quite close.
She also knew about their relationship and Alexander didn’t not view her as a threat anymore.
The princess was quite nice.
"I know you will miss her." Alexander whispered, his fingers gently brushing through Damon’s.
A small grateful sigh escaped Damon’s lips as he leaned towards the touch.
"I will." He murmered, his entire body relaxing at the soothing feeling of Alexander’s fingers in his hair.
"Good night, Alexander." Damon whispered as he leaned in for a kiss.
"Good night, Damon." Alexander whispered once their lips parted and together, they fell asleep.
The next morning, Damon embraced Carina in a light hug as they said farewell.
"I will write." She assured when Damon pulled away.
"And I promise to reply, just don’t expect a lengthy letter." Damon grinned.
"I know you well enough." Carina replied cheekily and Damon quirked up a brow in question.
"What do you mean?" He asked and she gestured for him to step closer.
"You my friend, aren’t a fan of penmanship." She whispered.
"That’s one accurate guess." Damon agreed as he remembered the few times his knuckles had been hit by his tutors when he was much younger for his terrible handwriting.
He just couldn’t perfect his calligraphy.
"Stay safe, Damon." Carina’s lips curled into a small genuine smile.
"I will." He replied.
"Oh...take good care of Alexander too." She added, her voice low so that he was the only one that could hear.
Damon nodded slightly in affirmation and watched as she headed towards her carriage.
He watched it trail off only for a familiar annoying voice to reach his ears.
"Why did you let such a fine princess go? She has only been here a week." Daphne spoke and he turned to face her.
"If you like her so much, why don’t you marry her?" He asked and she shrugged, not so alarmed at his suggestion.
"I could if I was a guy." Daphne replied matter of factly, her own pressure to get married suffocating her.
If only she had as much leisure as that men enjoyed, she could get married at any age she wanted.
Damon noticed her statement and his eyes widened slightly from curiosity.
"You like girls?" He asked and Daphne was thoughtfully silent.
