Chapter 14: you are shameless

"Oh really?" Damon drawled as he held up a wine glass to his lips, taking a sip as his eyes looked at the man that was standing quite a distance from him, ready to bolt.

"Yes and I mean it your highness." Alexander replied and he watched the mischievous gleam that entered the prince’s clear blue eyes that were quite a welcome compliment to his thick silver hair.

"Alright." he relented and Alexander blinked, surprised but his relief lasted for seconds.

"We will see how far you can run my honorable knight. Oh and just so you know, I love a good chase." Damon assured and it didn’t take Alexander ages to know that he had close to no winning chance when it came to this one man.

Oh yes, he was doomed...so sweetly doomed.

"I am going to seduce you and make you mine, Alexander." Damon assured and Alexander blinked, surprised yet a wicked part of him was pleased. He wanted this man to claim him!

"What about the princess?" Alexander found himself asking.

"She was just helping me make you jealous." Damon acknowledged his actions and Alexander’s eyes widened in shock.

This man was an excellent actor. He had seamlessly manipulated him and Alexander had fallen into his trap.

There was indeed nothing he could do when it came to this man.

"You...you are shameless." Alexander managed to say something once he recovered from his momentarily shock.

Damon smirked.

"I know and I am unapologetic for being that way. Alexander, I am going to do whatever it takes to make you mine." Damon smiled painfully, his voice serious as his eyes burned into his.

Alexander was lost for words. At least Damon was being brazenly honest about his intentions.

Knowing that did not help to lessen his overwhelmed state at the bold declaration.

Now, Alexander knew this man had his eyes set on him but what was he going to do about it.

Run or give in to his desires. Desires his mind was still coming to terms with.

Running was the safer option because uncertainty was not his greatest suite.

But... this man had assured him that he had no problem chasing him.

Alexander briefly squeezed his eyes shut, his head spinning from all the unending thoughts that kept entering his head.

He glared at Damon.

"You will stay away from me." He whispered, the weakness in voice gnawing at his insides.

It was a futile attempt.

Damon frowned, clearly not pleased by his words.

"I am going to give you three days. Make up your mind by then. Decide whether you want me or not." Damon said and Alexander clenched his jaw.

This man was impossible.

That was a freakishly short time to sort out his emotions, logic and instinct.

Each of which wanted something different.

He leaned against the wall, a soft sigh escaping his lips.

He could try.

"Okay." He agreed.

"I await your reply in three days." Damon said and with a small murmured goodnight, Alexander walked out of his room.

Damon frowned as he lay back in his bed, his eyes fixed on his ceiling.

He did not know whether bombarding Alexander with his intentions had been the right decision.

What if it was only going to push him away?

A soft troubled sound left his lips as he shut his eyes and tried to get some sleep. He could have his reply within three days and until then, Damon could try to do the impossible.

Try and truly give Alexander some space.

For the next three days, Alexander was in a state of utter conflict. Damon had indeed stayed away from him but that had not stopped him from making him jealous.

He continued to spend time with the princess and Alexander was even more jealous when he saw the genuine connection they had.

Damon seemed to really enjoy spending time with this princess and thankfully, there had been no more sensual kisses or lingering touches.

It seemed like Damon was indeed serious about him.

The subtle warmth that crept into his heart at the thought was strangely welcome and even though he wasn’t entirely certain about the reply he had to give Damon that night, Alexander wasn’t as troubled.

He could try and make it work with this prince.

The idea he had considered insane a few days back was more convincing. Alexander had always liked this man, at first as a friend because he treated him like an equal and he took his opinion into consideration. It was something rare among members born into privileged and powerful families.

Damon was a good person and the feelings of attraction that had developed after their single night of passion did not alarm him as much.

Alexander was going to try and give him a chance.

Damon glanced back at him and Alexander flashed him a faint smile.

Damon blinked in surprise as he looked ahead, continuing his walk with Carina who was telling him of a prank one of her brothers had played on her.

"What’s wrong?" She asked, pausing her narration once she noticed the strange expression on Damon’s face.

"Alexander just smiled at me." Damon answered, his voice carrying a faint air of both shock and surprise.

"See, I told you he will come around." She reminded.

Damon relaxed, his lips tilting up in a soft smile.

"Do you think he will say yes?" He asked, his voice calm even though he was nervous.

"I guess you will find out tonight." She replied and Damon tensed.

Yes, he could but what if...?

He shook his head slightly to prevent the negative thoughts that had started to form within his mind from spoiling his mood.

Alexander had smiled at him. That was progress and he was going to be happy and grateful for that.

Tonight he could have his reply and as much as he tried to remain calm throughout the day, Damon was deeply anxious by night fall.

He did not have to offer him an invite to come inside because Alexander followed him in.

"So...what have you decided? Do you want me or not?" Damon asked, his voice deep and low.
