Creating A Succubus Army In A Fantasy World! -
Chapter 51: Trial Of Self!
Chapter 51: Trial Of Self!
Creed had the distinct feeling that he was being tossed around like a ragdoll in a hurricane.
Up. Down. Sideways. Diagonally.
It was like some cosmic force had picked him up and decided to shake him senseless. He barely had time to process what was happening before—
WHAM!
He crashed hard into solid ground.
Pain exploded through his body as he landed awkwardly, his right ankle twisting violently beneath him.
"ARGH!"
A strangled yelp tore from his throat as he immediately collapsed onto his side, clutching his foot.
His vision spun, his stomach churned, and for a brief, horrifying moment, he thought he might actually throw up.
"What the hell was that?!" he groaned, gasping through the pain. He rolled onto his back, staring up at the sky, only to blink in confusion.
There was no sky.
Instead, a swirling void of shifting colors loomed overhead, warping and twisting like some kind of liquid rainbow.
It was strangely beautiful, but also deeply unsettling, like reality itself had been stretched too thin.
Creed gritted his teeth and forced himself to sit up, testing his ankle. A sharp sting shot up his leg.
"Great," he muttered, exhaling sharply. "Just great. If I end up limping through this entire realm, I swear—"
He cut himself off, taking a deep breath. Focus. The pain was annoying, sure, but he didn’t have time to waste.
Creed’s thoughts immediately snapped back to the plan.
He had two hours.
That was all the time he had to find something valuable in this place before Ivy and the others launched another attack on the monkey from hell outside.
On paper, two hours sounded like a lot. But this was a secret realm. And secret realms always had trials.
That was the golden rule. No treasure was ever just lying around, waiting to be picked up.
Secret realms were essentially ancient vaults of potentially rare, precious resources—things so powerful they could potentially change a person’s fate overnight.
But whoever had created them—whether it was some long-dead civilization, a god, or just reality being a jerk—never made it easy.
Every realm had barriers. Tests. Trials.
Some tested your strength. Some tested your endurance. Some tested your mind. And some, well... some were just cruel.
Creed grimaced.
He had no idea what kind of twisted challenges this place would throw at him, but if he could walk out of here filthy rich and debt-free, then a bit of suffering was totally worth it!
Probably. Maybe... Hopefully.
Creed finally turned his attention to his surroundings.
At first glance, it looked like he had landed in another dense forest. The trees stretched high into the air, their leaves a strange mix of dark green and silver.
The ground was covered in soft moss, and eerie blue mushrooms pulsed faintly like they were breathing.
It was silent. No birds. No insects. No rustling leaves. Just nothing.
Creed felt a shiver crawl up his spine. Then, his eyes landed on something that made his breath catch.
Five enormous doors.
They stood tall and unmoving, seemingly suspended in midair, as if someone had taken them straight out of a castle and dropped them into the forest.
They weren’t attached to anything. No walls. No buildings. No gateways. Just doors. Floating.
And above each one, carved into the air like glowing runes, were mysterious words written in a language he couldn’t understand.
Creed’s eyebrows twitched.
"Seriously?" he muttered. "You expect me to pick a door when I can’t even read the signs?"
What if one of them said ’Instant Death’ or ’Enjoy Your Eternal Suffering’?
How the hell was he supposed to make a choice like this?!
Creed frowned at the glowing words, deep in thought. Then, like a lightning bolt to the brain, an idea struck him.
His Dimensional Bracelet!
His stage 2 bracelet had the scanning function!
Maybe—just maybe—it could translate the text. It was a long shot, but it wasn’t like he had any better options.
He lifted his wrist, pointed the bracelet at the nearest door, and tapped the surface three times.
A faint hum filled the air as the bracelet scanned the door. After a few seconds, a holgraphic screen spread out:
[Trial of Might.]
Creed’s face lit up. "Hell yeah! It works!"
Excited, he moved to the next door and repeated the process.
[Trial of Self.]
The next.
[Trial of Will.]
Then...
[Trial of Pain.]
And finally...
[Trial of Love.]
Creed stared at the list, feeling his enthusiasm plummet.
"...I don’t like these options."
He rubbed his temples.
Okay. So now he knew the names. That didn’t make the choice any easier. Creed stared hard at the five floating doors, arms crossed, lips pressed into a tight line.
He knew in his mind. He had to pick one. But the problem was... which one?!
Each name sounded like a recipe for disaster. It was like he was at a restaurant where every dish on the menu came with a side of severe pain and emotional trauma.
He sighed, rubbing his chin. "Alright... let’s break this down."
Trial of Might.
That one was self-explanatory.
It was going to test raw strength, combat skill, endurance—all that brutal stuff.
And considering the fact that he had just gotten tossed around like a chew toy by a giant monkey, it was safe to say that he wasn’t exactly "mighty."
Verdict? Absolutely not!
Trial of Will.
This sounded like it would be some kind of mental test. Maybe a challenge to resist temptation? Or endure unbearable conditions?
Creed wasn’t sure.
But considering how often he gave up on things—like workouts, diets, and anything that required more than an hour of patience—this was a terrible idea.
Verdict? Next!
Trial of Pain.
Creed didn’t even need to think.
Nope.
Just... no.
He was not about to throw himself into a situation where the goal was literal suffering.
Verdict? Who even designed that trial?!
Trial of Love.
"..."
Creed squinted at the door.
What the hell did this one mean?!
Would he have to confess his feelings to someone? Experience heartbreak? Get rejected over and over again?
Because if that was the case, then this was basically Trial of Pain Part Two!
Verdict? He wasn’t desperate enough to find out.
Which left...
Trial of Self.
Creed frowned. Out of all of them, this one was the most mysterious.
Trial of Self?
What did that mean? A test about his own identity? Would he be forced to face his fears? His regrets?
It was vague... but that also meant it wasn’t screaming ’imminent death’ like the others.
That was good enough for him.
Verdict?
Let’s do this!
Creed took a deep breath, cracking his knuckles.
"Alright. Trial of Self it is."
His heartbeat quickened. He was about to step into something completely unknown.
Would it be a battle? A puzzle? Some kind of psychological horror nightmare? There was only one way to find out.
He stepped forward and placed his palm against the door.
CREEEAAAAK.
The door shuddered. A deep, eerie groan echoed through the realm as the massive structure slowly swung open.
Beyond it, there was...
Light. A dim, distant glow.
Creed squinted, trying to make out what was inside, but the light seemed to be warping and shifting, like something was hiding in it.
Something powerful. Something ancient. Something... watching him. His stomach twisted.
Creed took an instinctive step back. His brain, now fully aware of how horribly reckless this was, started screaming.
"Wait, do I really want to do this?!"
His heart pounded. His palms were sweaty. That light... It wasn’t just any light. It was the kind of glow that made every nerve in his body scream to run!
It was like a predator was lurking inside. Like a trap was waiting. Like he was about to do something so incredibly stupid that even his past self—the same guy who once microwaved a spoon just to see what would happen—would call him an idiot.
"Okay... w-wait," he stammered. "Should I be doing this? Should I—"
Creed swallowed. Then again... He only had two hours. And if he wasted time hesitating, then he might as well walk out empty-handed.
That wasn’t an option. This wasn’t just about getting stronger. This was about paying off his debts, getting a head start in this world, and not dying a miserable, broke loser!
And if that meant walking into the horrifying unknown?
Then so be it. Creed inhaled sharply, puffing out his chest.
"Alright, screw it."
He clenched his fists. One step forward. The light didn’t move. Another step. The air felt... heavier.
One more.
And then—
He walked through. The instant Creed passed the threshold, the door slammed shut behind him.
A booming THUD echoed through the realm, shaking the ground.
Then—
Silence.
The forest was empty once more.
The trial had begun.
