Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 95: You found me

Chapter 95: You found me

There were countless ways she had imagined her first kiss would go. But this was never included in her fantasy.

In that split-second, this had felt better than any fantasy she ever had but as the moment passed, she was left with the reality that slapped her awake.

He was Maxim. And if she did not handle this properly, then she would be risking losing this delicate thing that they were growing to share now. Their friendship.

She lost him once and there was no way she had grown used to it. But now that she had him in her life again, she did not know how she would be able to deal with it if she lost him again.

A mistake. Someone else.

Maxim closed his eyes for a moment before he stepped back from her too, ’’It’s fine. I understood it the moment you closed in.’’

His voice was calm, she thought, ’’Understood what...?" she asked.

’’That you were not thinking straight,’’ Maxim said.

Diana smiled wryly. But I was thinking very straight. Straighter than a straight line.

Maxim inhaled a deep breath, ’’Sit,’’ he held the chair for her.

She took a seat and he walked to the other side before he sat, ’’What happened after that?"

Diana studied his face. Everything seemed normal. Despite a niggling bit of disappointment in her heart, she was relieved that she managed a cover-up in the end moment.

But somewhere deep within, she was curious about how this would have turned out had she not lied. If he knew that she had done it in her senses.

’’My parents... they wanted to send Angel away to the orphanage or even foster care.’’

Maxim’s lips were set in a thin line when he heard that.

’’Despite my inner struggles, it did not cross my mind even once to do that. She was Daisy’s daughter. Before that owner could leave, I took her away and when....’’ Diana lowered her head to look at her hand, ’’When Angel held my finger for the first time, I just fell in love with her. Effortlessly. I was disgusted with every thought that had crossed my mind earlier.

Maxim quietly gazed at her lips as she spoke. Her words were registering in his mind and so were the words she said earlier. Someone else. She kissed him because she thought of him as someone else in that vulnerable moment.

And he, on the other hand, let his heart cross the line again and again.

Clueless about his thoughts, she continued, ’’My mom was angry because of what I did and I just ran away and locked myself inside my room.’’

Maxim frowned when he heard that.

’’It took me a lot of crying and contemplation before I did what I never thought I would do in my life,’’ Diana wet her lips again, ’’I ran away from that place. I discarded everything I had with me and ended up coming here. Rest is history,’’ she shrugged.

Maxim nodded, ’’Then you found me.’’

Diana’s heart skipped a beat, ’’I did.’’

He glanced at her, ’’I am sorry for not being a better friend before.’’

Her face fell slightly. His words should have made her feel touched before but for some reason, they didn’t, ’’Don’t be silly,’’ she didn’t let it show on her face, ’’The chef just now... He was there on one of my birthdays. I told you about him years ago, I don’t know if you remember. So, I just lied to play it safe. You don’t mind, do you?" she cleared her throat, ’’Auntie already thinks that we are together. I just took the lie to another level.’’

Maxim nodded, ’’I don’t mind. Mom knows we were pretending that day.’’

’’She does?" Diana’s eyes widened.

’’She is smart.’’

’’Like you...’’ she laughed, at the very moment as her gaze landed on the dining table. Her laughter died in her throat.

The table was set with a wide range of dishes and drinks. She was so distracted earlier that she had completely avoided the enticing aroma of the sumptuous meal lingering in the air.

But what caught her attention was the chocolate pastry in the middle, right in front of her.

’Umm... My Michelin-starred chef’s exclusive chocolate pastry, come here. Scoot closer to my mouth...’

Diana remembered the accurate words she had mumbled in her dream. Maybe because she had bitten him taking him as chocolate pastry, those words were imprinted in her head.

She remembered the Chef from before, ’’He... made all this...?" That man was so hard to invite. It couldn’t be him, right?

’’Yes.’’

’’You got this arranged because of my dream?"

’’Mm.’’

Diana was dumbstruck. ’’I am an independent young woman who believes in 50-50 when it comes to bills but I don’t think I can afford this right now,’’ she said regretfully.

Maxim quirked a brow when she picked up the fork even as she said those words, ’’We don’t need to split. I am paying.’’

Diana’s eyes sparkled. She covered her face as if she was bedazzled by the golden glow around him, ’’So rich. I feel like I am leeching off to you.’’

He blinked, ’’You can leech off to me. I don’t mind.’’

’’Really?" she sighed dreamily as she glanced at the food before looking at him.

’’Mm.’’

’’Then I won’t stand on ceremony. Long live, my dear boss. I hope you are even richer in the future. Let the cash flow in. Keep the money coming~" she hummed as she licked the chocolate cream, sighing in contentment.

Looking at her adorable fawning manner, his eyes softened. He raised his hand to pat her head but, in the end, he placed his hand down, clenching his fingers into a fist.

As for Diana, she was beyond touched by this sweet gesture of his. When her parents did the same thing for her in the past, they did it because of some random socialite, for showing off or maintaining their reputation. But when Maxim did it, he did it for her. Just to make her happy.

No other reason.
