Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 88: Taking refugee

Chapter 88: Taking refugee

Eh, Sir? Why are you acting like a girl on her period lately?

She almost blurted the question aloud but her survival instincts held her back.

’’Sir... shall I serve breakfast...?"

’’I am not hungry,’’ With that said, Maxim walked towards the door. He seemed to remember something as his footsteps halted.

He turned around and walked towards Angel before kissing the girl’s head.

She mumbled incomprehensible syllables as she glanced at him with wide eyes, ’’Be good,’’ Maxim’s gaze softened as he ruffled her hair and turned to leave.

But as soon as he thought of a certain someone who was not being good, his face turned darker than the bottom of a pot.

Still, hopping away?

Once Maxim was out of her sight, only then did Ivy come back to her senses.

She gasped as she looked at Angel indignantly, ’’What... What did he mean by he is not hungry? He even asked me to prepare breakfast for the first time ever since I started working for him so I thought he was particularly hungry and I even prepared a feast...’’

She had previously lied to Diana according to Maxim’s instructions, but truth to be told, she did not stay at Maxim’s place despite working for him. Sometimes, she stayed with his mother and sometimes she stayed at her own shabby apartment but regardless of anything, ever since she started working for the man, she knew he had very plain eating habits. After working out, he usually had protein shakes or juice and casual food that he prepared himself.

Yet during the past few weeks of living here, she was surprised to see that the man’s habits had completely changed so she thought that he found his old routine problematic and hence shifted to the grand meals that seemed to have come straight out of royal palaces.

He even asked her to make breakfast today and she was so surprised about it.

’’Even Dee who usually eats my food like she is tasting 5-star delicacies, stuffed them like she was forcefully gulping them down today. And now, Sir had betrayed the soul of royal cook in me. Baby Angie, has my cooking skills gone rusty now?"

Angel looked at her like quietly like she was saying ’Um, what?’

Ivy sobbed wordlessly.

Logan, who could not take the stupidity anymore, closed the file in his hand and turned to walk upstairs. His footsteps halted on the first step, ’’Idiot,’’ he spat in disdain before walking upstairs.

Just how stupid this woman was to not be able to see the pink-painted atmosphere.

Ivy was stunned. Did... Sir Logan just call me an idiot?

While one would have expected her to sob harder but she grinned. Who could have thought she could get this woody man to spare one of his precious words on her?

Obviously, she was a cool person who can turn the impossible into possible.

In a good mood, she wiped her crocodile tears and started playing with Angel.

Angel was an obedient child with princess tendencies. She played and smiled most of the time, even when she ate, she barely kicked a fuss. Unless she had not completed her beauty sleep or found herself dirty, she was like a sweet doll who did not know what tantrums were.

With Ivy’s past experience with babysitting, she had no issues with Angel. Moreover, she was emotionally attached to the girl now so they were even closer and they bonded rather well.

Artemis Hospital.

’’Morning, Mary,’’ Diana greeted the head nurse.

The woman smiled brightly, ’’Morning, Diana. The second day of work,’’ she checked her watch, ’’And you are here before time. So punctual,’’ her impression of Diana improved even more. Young people these days were so passionate about work.

’’Uh...thanks,’’ Diana touched her nose.

Now, she could not tell the woman that she was taking refugee in the hospital from a certain someone, could she?

So, she guiltily accepted the praise.

Mary sent the nurses who were standing with her as she said to Diana, ’’Dr. Warner has an important surgery today so...’’

’’So, I have taken it into consideration and limited the number of patients with normal visiting appointments,’’ Diana completed the woman’s words.

Mary flashed her a thumbs-up, pleased with her work efficiency.

Diana checked the time before she got started with the patients in the waiting line. She recorded their information and arranged them in a file.

By the time she was done, she checked the time on her watch again. He should not be here yet, right?

Still, she was careful as she made her way to his office.

She was about to step inside but her eyes caught sight of a middle-aged man nearby. He was looking around the place with a frown.

Did she miss a patient?

Diana approached the man but before she could ask him if he was a patient, the man was gone.

Diana blinked. It must be someone who lost their way.

Shaking her head, she knocked on Maxim’s office door twice.

When there was no response from inside, she breathed a sigh of relief and rushed inside.

After she was done putting the files in their place, Diana walked out of the office, humming a song to match her cheerfully professional attitude but the lyrics of the song got stuck in her throat like a fishbone when she saw a tall silhouette approaching in her direction.

Diana ignored the patients’ strange stares as she scurried towards the huge vase in the corner and snuggled behind it.

She stayed in that squatting position, hiding her face with the leaves until she was sure that Maxim had stepped into his office. Then, she slumped back on the wall...

’’Mommy, is this big sister crazy? Why is she not in the mental hospital? Shall we help her?" A young child tugged at his mother’s hand as he looked at her pitifully.

Diana almost puked a mouthful of blood, ’’You... sweetheart, sister is absolutely normal... absolutely normal...’’

Yet, her current posture, expression, and words did not coordinate hence making the child’s mother doubtful too. She grabbed her son’s hand and rushed away taking large strides.

Diana slapped a palm on her forehead.

For the rest of the day, the plan of avoiding Maxim for some time was pushed to the back of her head because Maxim was so busy that she barely got to see him.
