Crashing into an Old Flame

Chapter 51: Daisy Chen

Diana’s lips parted in disbelief. She was clearly offended as she watched him clutching his stomach and laughing so hard like he just watched Amy Schumer live.

She glanced at the egg dripping down her jaw, her collarbone, and her waist. She removed the small eggshell that clung to her earlobe like designer hoop earrings.

’’You look good when you laugh,’’ Diana mumbled as she looked at him.

Maxim stopped laughing gradually, wiping the drop of tear from the corner of his eyes.

’’And I really love it when you laugh. Trust me. I really do,’’ Diana narrowed her eyes, ’’But don’t laugh at me. I feel terrible. I did it as people do. I don’t know why it turned out to be like this,’’ she pointed both her hands at herself, ’’Maybe the mommy hen was not in good condition when she laid the eggs or—’’

Maxim stifled his laughter this time. Only Diana would blame a hen after failing to crack an egg decently.

Raking his fingers through his hair, he pushed himself to his full height and strode towards her.

As he stood in front of her, he easily towered over her delicate frame.

Funny how she used to be the tall one when they first met and now she just looked so tiny standing in front of him.

She was not that tiny. But anyway, maybe it was his growth spurt speaking.

’’Alright, I get it. Let me teach you, okay?" Maxim grabbed a few tissues before he cleaned her white dress by dabbling some water with his fingers.

As she nodded, he wiped the egg off her collarbone and jawline, his fingers lingered there a moment longer than he intended them to.

His gaze briefly dropped to her pouty lips. She was still sulking.

Maxim leaned closer to her, till the tip of their noses were almost touching. Almost.

Just an inch away.

And he immediately had Diana’s attention.

’’Do you want me to make you feel better?" he whispered, looking deep into her eyes. From a distance, her eyes were green. Always.

But when he stepped closer to her, he could see the hazel and brown flecks surrounding the green.

And hell, Maxim never realized that he had an interest in studying eyes. Atleast, not until he looked into hers.

Diana quietly looked at him for a moment before she rolled her eyes, ’’Go, keep laughing at me. Hmph,’’ she placed her hands on his chest and pushed him away.

But he grabbed both her wrists, ’’I am serious.’’

Diana paused for a moment as she glanced at his face. She clicked her tongue, ’’And I am dead serious, Warner. I don’t even know what I did to deserve a friend like you.’’

And just like that, his grip on her wrists loosened, ’’Maybe, saved a country?"

’’Or the whole universe?" Diana stepped back from him and both of them burst out in laughter.

’’Get changed,’’ he cleared his throat.

’’You said you will teach me.’’

’’Not like this,’’ Maxim’s eyes raked over her white dress which appeared almost transparent after he wiped the egg off her with water.

’’I am fine,’’ Diana rolled her eyes again and she turned to place a clean bowl on the kitchen counter, ’’I would have felt awkward if it was someone else but then it is you.’’

Maxim glanced at her back, ’’Why?"

’’You are you. The boy I defended from the duster hit. I don’t see you as a man.’’

Maxim stepped closer to her till his chest almost touched her back.

He extended his hands, sliding them around her waist as he grabbed her hands and made her hold an egg. He slowly tapped the egg on the edge of the glass bowl before he cracked it, ’’But I’d very much like for you to see me as a man.’’

’’Of course, you are a man. I didn’t say you aren’t. Omg, it went perfectly. I think I smashed it harder earlier,’’ Diana’s voice was coated with excitement.

"Kitchen erotica..’’

Maxim and Diana froze.

Diana blinked because she knew that she did not say those words. And Maxim’s voice was not as feminine nor would he say things like this.

Both of them tilted their head towards the door where Daisy was standing while holding her fingers in a pose that looked like she was clicking a picture of them.

Maxim stepped back from her and Diana rushed to her elder sister to pounce on her for a hug.

Daisy placed her palm on Diana’s head, stopping her at a distance, ’’Stay away. You are gross.’’

Diana glanced at her grievously.

’’Less than you,’’ Maxim mumbled in the kitchen.

Daisy glared at him, ’’Your mouth still stinks.’’

’’Less than you.’’

’’You...’’

’’Okay enough,’’ Diana cut them off. Maxim and Daisy were two of the most mature people she knew but for the love of god, she did not know why they bickered like cat and dog whenever they were around each other.

As childish as they were at times, Diana knew that they had no hard feelings for each other.

Daisy swept Diana in a hug, ’’I missed you!"

’’We met a few weeks ago at the mansion,’’ Diana said, pulling her aside, ’’And you just said I am gross," It was rare for her sister to shower affections through a hug. It was surprising that she did not kickstart through a kick or something.

’’I was just kidding. And at the jail, you mean,’’ Daisy coldly whispered.

Diana glared at her.

Daisy glanced at Maxim who was standing in the kitchen before she pursed her lips, ’’Look who is cooking,’’ she walked towards him, changing the topic.

Maxim ignored her as he started the preparations for the chocolate pudding.

’’I am not going to share this masterpiece with you, Daisy. You better not blame me,’’ Diana whispered while looking at the bowl in which Maxim had prepared the batter.

Her eyes roamed up to him as he concentrated on his hands. Even the cracking of eggs looked exquisite when he did it.

’’Um... Apologies but which masterpiece you are talking about?" Daisy asked.
