’’When are you leaving?" Maxim’s question halted Logan in his tracks.

Once Logan left, Hazel looked at his retreating back, ’’He told me about everything today,’’ And she was left astonished by Logan’s revelation.

She was rather close to both Old Master Qin and Logan but not once did she think that these two people have any kind of connection, let alone blood ties. So, the whole turn of events left her in a situation where she did not know what to say to Logan except for wishing him a great life ahead.

She tried to contact Old Master Qin but his phone was unreachable. Given the current situation in his family, Hazel knew that she was not going to get a response from the old man anytime soon.

’’Help me install a security team around Mom’s villa and assign four bodyguards—’’

Hazel’s swift glare had Maxim pause for a brief moment. He looked at her questioningly.

’’I need my privacy.’’

Maxim frowned, ’’Logan will be leaving soon,’’ And other than him, he did not really trust anyone entirely.

’’What?" Ryle’s voice turned more pensive, ’’Is it that serious that you can’t trust my secretary with the matter and want me to handle it in person?"

When Maxim remained quiet, Ryle took it as an affirmation, ’’Don’t worry. I will make sure it’s handled perfectly,’’ he hung up in full spirits, leaving Maxim speechless.

’’I don’t need a team guarding me here,’’ Hazel’s words got Maxim’s attention, ’’I don’t need to feel like I am living in a cage.’’

’’You don’t feel safe,’’ Maxim leaned back on the couch, unbothered by her protests as he crossed a leg above the other.

’’It’s probably the fear of karma. No matter how much of a jerk he was, I shouldn’t have tied him and hit him when he was drunk and almost unconscious. I am probably afraid of retribution, hence the nightmares.’’

’’So, you know?" Maxim raised a brow.

’’Of course, I do. I was drunk too. I should have tied him and waited until we were both fully conscious. The hits would have been sharper and the nightmares today would have been worth it.’’

’’A small chance?" Diana asked curiously.

Hazel nodded, ’’He looked pretty rich but I can swear there is a 99 percent chance that those clothes were rented.’’

’’Let’s take the 1 percent into consideration and get you protected?" Maxim tried to soften his tone but his mother glared harder.

’’For all we know, he might just be a penniless jerk who had nothing other than a beautiful face and rented clothes on him. Why do we have to take precautions for a man like that? Makes me feel like we are giving him too much importance.’’

’’We are giving importance to your safety,’’ Maxim’s voice turned frigid as he stared back at her.

Meanwhile, Diana quietly inched away from them, trying to remain expressionless as she closed her eyes.

The current head of the Qin Family was being referred to as a penniless jerk who wore rented clothes.

The universe sure had its ways of playing jokes on her.

If it was not because both Maxim and Hazel wanted to have nothing to do with Maxim’s biological father, then she would not have let them stay in the dark.

Nevertheless, as she watched the mother and son glaring at each other and throwing cold statements while bickering, her heart warmed.

And a part of her mind subconsciously wandered off to the thoughts of her parents.
