Once she was gone, Old Master Qin sighed and sipped his tea, lost in his thoughts. The taste of the tea seemed to be surprisingly sweet and bitter at the same time.

And he knew that it had nothing to do with the tea itself but the kind of mood that he was in.

His eldest grandson was alive. And they reunited at the airport. The scene was constantly playing in his head, filling him with a sense of nostalgia and peace.

But when he thought about how he had to part with Logan instantly despite having a lot to discuss with him, the old man felt sulky.

Who was Logan visiting in the hospital that he was being so secretive about it? Old Master Chen could not help but wonder.

Although Qin Zehan convinced him that it must be his girlfriend who is sick which is why Logan was being so secretive but the old man still had his doubts. Qin Zehan even asked him to respect Logan’s boundaries lest they hurt his emotions as soon as they reunited. Hence, Old Master Chen stayed put in his office despite wanting to follow him.

’’Hmph, how much can I trust that fox though?" the old man mumbled.

When he compared Qin Zehan’s calmness to how shocked he had been when he saw Logan and realized that his eldest grandson had not passed away in that accident years ago, Old Master Chen smelt a heavy dose of conspiracy there. Why did Qin Zehan act like he was not surprised by the turn of events in the slightest?

Moreover, since he had to respect Logan’s privacy and not badger him, why did Qin Zehan leave as soon as they parted with Logan in the hospital?

Did he really go back to the mansion like he had suggested or did he follow Logan secretly?

When his suspicions grew, Old Master Qin stood up to check on them but before he could take a single step away from his desk, there was a knock on the door.

Old Master Qin halted in his tracks. With a heavy sigh, he dropped to the chair and grabbed his teacup again.

’’Come in.’’

When he saw the person who stepped inside, the old man frowned, ’’You... Where is that brat? Did he cause trouble again?" The sight of Veronica only led him to think of another headache of his Qin family who was yet to be seen.

Veronica greeted him before she shook her head, ’’Fortunately, no. Dr. Qin had been working rather well in your absence,’’ even though that inhumane bastard made me work my ass off like a cow but I won’t hold a grudge at all.

Veronica kept her smile polite despite her controversial inner thoughts.

Old Master Qin sighed in relief but then his brows furrowed again when his gaze landed on the manila that Veronica was holding carefully in her hands, ’’Lass, what is that?"

Veronica stepped forward and respectfully placed the envelope on the desk, ’’My resignation letter.’’

’’You are resigning?" Old Master Qin was taken aback.

Veronica remained quiet for a moment before she started narrating the whole incident. Ince she was done, she braced herself and continued, ’’You have every right to fire me for what I have done. But I am selfish enough to beg you to accept my resignation letter because if I am fired, my career would end here. I have decided to move to a countryside hospital far from here to volunteer there but at the end of the day, I would accept whatever punishment you decide for me.’’

Old Master Qin leaned back on the chair.

Veronica held her breath.

’’You have decided the biggest punishment for yourself by forsaking the name and fame and moving away despite knowing that you are qualified for greater things. I have seen you work diligently for years without a hiccup and you even tolerated a brat like Alex. Your actions might have displeased me a few times including today but I have always found your loyalty towards your work and your professionalism commendable.’’

In fact, when he had shifted to this branch hospital, the staff he had hired had their own flaws. They were not simple and glittery people with clean and great CVs. But some people soared from those flaws and some drowned in them.

Alex was not serious about his work and he dawdled about without taking his duty as a doctor seriously. Maxim did not have a good background despite his accomplishments due to his cocky superiors at his previous workplace. Dr. Rick was too cowardly for the position while Veronica was too arrogant and overconfident about her capability.

But at the end of the day, some of them overcame their flaws and made a place for themselves while some of them lost themselves in the mirage.

And Veronica was the kind of person who, despite disappointing him to some extent, also made him proud today. She made a mistake and she owned up to it.

’’Good luck for your future,’’ Old Master Qin accepted the resignation letter. He continued, ’’At your new workplace, be more sincere and diligent. And before you join, make sure to pray that you don’t get a superior like the one you got here.’’

Veronica laughed through her tears as she looked at the man gratefully.

By the time she walked out of the office, she was surprised to see Diana standing at the door, ’’What are you doing here?"

’’I had something to do,’’ Diana smiled, "Also when I thought about it later, I realized that your words sounded like a farewell. Now I have figured out why.’’

"You heard everything?" When Diana nodded, Veronica wiped her tears and smiled, ’’I wasted a lot of time doing something because of an impulse. Although it was a beautiful experience, but I still want to go back to my roots and do what has always been my dream. Become a doctor. And when such a realization strikes, you don’t sit and hesitate. You make the first move. That’s what I did. Perhaps the mistake I made was the wake-up call for me.’’

Inside the office, once Veronica left, Old Master Qin shook his head and placed the manila in the drawers, ’’Kids these days...’’

He stood up again to go and check on Logan but before he could take a step away from the desk, there was another knock on the door.

"_" The old man was stunned when he heard the sweet voice from the other side.

’’It’s you, little girl? Come in, come in quick,’’ he slumped back on the chair, realizing that he almost chased away Maxim’s future bride.

Diana stepped inside the office room, ’’Long time no see. You look better than before,’’ she beamed at him.

’’Haish, you girl, you are honey mouthed,’’ Old Master Qin glanced at her from head to toe, ’’Are you here to invite me to your wedding ceremony?"
