Diana recognized Qin Zehan at a single glance despite not having any interactions with him in the past. He was a mysterious person just like the whole Qin family.

But when he had taken over the position of CEO, it was a big event that was trending all over the tabloids.

Amidst the heart-touching reunion between the brothers, Diana got distracted when Maxim walked out of the hospital room.

Diana nodded at Logan curtly before following Maxim.

Once she caught up to him, she grabbed his hand.

Maxim stopped in his tracks.

’’Why did you leave suddenly?" she panted softly.

’’I think they will take it from here. You should take a break,’’ he stroked her hair, ’’And a coffee perhaps to catch your breath before you prepare for Louis’ discharge.’’

’’You don’t look surprised at all. I did not see this coming,’’ Diana pouted. Although all of them had reached this conclusion about Louis being the elder son of the Qin family but the probability of it becoming true under such circumstances still was a shock.

Maxim held her hand and intertwined their fingers before he continued walking, slower this time. As they walked in the hospital hallway, he explained, ’’Does it matter? It’s their family affair.’’

Diana sighed. Maxim was like the immortal unbothered by worldly affairs, ’’I don’t know if I find you more cute or attractive at this moment,’’ she mumbled under her breath.

Maxim stopped in his tracks and leveled her with a glare, ’’Buttering me up won’t help you out in this situation. You know that, right?"

’’I was able to stall for time,’’ Diana defended herself, ’’Or else he would have really done something in a fit of rage before Logan came.’’

’’If his mental condition was slightly unstable, then he would have fucking done something to harm you in a fit of rage!" Maxim’s voice held suppressed rage. Everytime he thought about Diana being drenched in a cold sweat, standing there shivering, in a daze, he felt his heart breaking, ’’He fucking scared you.’’

The past few days, Maxim had been in touch with Logan via texts. Although the man acted like this whole incident had nothing to do with him but he still asked about Louis’ condition every once in a while which contradicted his own statements.

And yesterday, Maxim had asked him again if he really did not want to meddle in Louis’ affairs. But not much to his surprise, Logan gave a positive response that time and told him that he will handle this situation later.

Had Maxim not known that Logan was coming over today, he would never have let Diana stay at a place he did not consider safe for her.

Diana looked at him in surprise.

Before she could say anything, the elevator door opened.

Maxim released his grip on her and stepped out, frustrated with himself to some extent.

Before he could leave, he felt a soft grip on his fingers.

’’You are worse than me, a woman on period, when you go into your own head and start assuming things,’’ Diana whispered as she stood in front of him. Since a good amount of people already knew about their ’special’ relationship back in the VIP ward, she held his hand without restraints. But when she looked at his stressed face, she did not have it in herself to consider anyone else other than him.

The realization crashed so smoothly once again that Diana smiled, ’’I was not scared by Louis. He is not a beast. With you being there with me, I was not harmed in the slightest as well. So, Stop exaggerating things in your head.’’

’’It has nothing to do with Louis. Or you,’’ Diana surprised herself when she did not stop speaking there, ’’I was reminded of some unpleasant things from the past.’’

Maxim’s lips parted but he did not utter a word.

Maxim looked at her like he understood her yet he did not at the same time.

She did not break the eye contact until the sound of his phone interrupted their moment.

’’I need to go,’’ he looked at her after checking the text from Mary.

Diana nodded, ’’Louis has drained most of your energy. After clearing out your current patients, even you can go on some vacation like Alex. To some island. With lots of hot girls...’’ she coughed and smiled sweetly when he shot her a glare.

The days of being on period injected her with a shot of chicken blood, boosting her bravery to the extent that she provoked him without restraints, knowing that he could not do anything to her.

’’You might as well as choose your hot costume and turn my place into some island five days later. We can enjoy ourselves,’’ Maxim smiled.

After having said those words casually, he walked off, leaving Diana speechless on her spot with her mouth opening and closing like a koi fish.

The moment Maxim turned around, the smile on his face dropped.

Diana’s words rang in his mind.

Unpleasant things from the past, she said.

He wished she was talking about some human, some problem bothering her in the present. He could have tackled them.
