Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 255: Bullshit

Chapter 255: Bullshit

Despite feeling reluctant, he knew that he had no heart to drag Logan into the hellhole he had escaped from.

So, Qin Zehan kept this matter a secret from both his father and elder brother who were devastated by Logan’s disappearance.

Qin Zehan let his men work behind the scenes so that one was unable to track Logan down even if they followed any leftover traces to look for him.

Over the years, gradually, Qin Zehan stopped keeping an eye on Logan to let him have his privacy as he grew up.

’’Ah Xian, we don’t even know where your father is now. It’s time that you put the past behind you and come back to us. Your grandfather misses you. I miss you. You...’’

"Logan.’’

Qin Zehan stopped for a moment, not expecting Logan to deny his identity even at this juncture.

’’Logan Parker. I go by this name now,’’ Logan added coolly, ’’Uncle.’’

Qin Zehan was stunned for a brief moment before a smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

...

"What do you mean by you want to sue us?" Alex was struck with disbelief, unable to believe what he heard a few minutes ago.

He had seen the patients’ family losing their calm unable if something went wrong with the patients and he had seen some patients acting unreasonably as well.

But this was the epitome of unreasonableness he had ever witnessed. Never once had he chanced upon a patient who was as unreasonable as this one.

Louis remained silent, not bothered to respond to Alex.

Alex’s long hair strands framed his face.

Out of frustration, he tugged them back, wanting to rip them off, ’’What do you think he is talking about?" he turned to look at the man who had stayed by Louis’ side throughout his surgery.

Although his family seemed to be absent, he had this horde of wild men who were always prepared for a dogfight. But out of them, only this old man had remained somewhat sensible and senile while accompanying Louis.

Elder Qin looked at Alex apologetically but his tone remained stern, ’’Boss wants to sue you for...’’

"For operating on him?" the door opened and Maxim stepped inside.

The two nurses present inside the room exchanged glances before one of them went to lock the door, considering the situation.

Maxim’s calm voice soothed some of Alex’s nerves somehow. Probably it was the hint of unbending composure that made one find him reliable in circumstances like this.

With a boost of morale, Alex burst at Louis, ’’Or for saving his life?"

Elder Qin lowered his head in shame.

’’Temporarily,’’ Maxim added in a calm voice.

Louis’ gaze cut to Maxim’s face, his eyes narrowing, ’’Do you think I trust any of your words? You, people, are up to no good.’’

Alex inwardly groaned in frustration, ’’You..’’

’’Talk to my lawyers,’’ Louis leaned back on the bed and closed his eyes.

Alex turned to look at Maxim but the latter did not spare a glance at him.

Alex was irked. If this situation was dragged further, no matter what, the hospital’s reputation would be compromised in one way or another.

’Knock’

Elder Qin opened the door and a group of lawyers stepped inside.

They uniformly greeted Louis.

Louis opened his eyes to look at them, "Right on time,’’ he muttered after checking the time on the wall clock, ’’Deal with it,’’ he closed his eyes again.

The group of lawyers consisted of three men and two women. One of the men, perhaps the head advocate of the group, stepped forward, ’’May I know who are the doctors who were involved in Mr. Louis’ surgery?’’

Alex cursed under his breath knowing that it was too late to lessen the impact of this whole matter. He stepped forward, ’’It should be us.’’

When the man looked at him and shifted his gaze to Maxim, Maxim nodded briefly.

"The right to receive information about one’s medical condition, treatment choices, risks associated with treatment and prognosis is mandatory, either by legislation or in common laws,’’ the lawyer spoke up, ’’The patient, must, I repeat must, be aware of his condition and his treatment process.’’

One of the ladies stepped out of the group to back his statement, "By law, the information must be in plain language that a patient or their family can easily comprehend properly enough for them to make an informed decision regarding their healthcare.’’

"The informed consent process isn’t only an ethical obligation but a legal one as well.

Alex chimed in, "But we needed to save him...’’

His tone died down by the group’s resounding statements.

’’When the doctor fails to explain either the procedure or the risks associated with the treatment procedure, the medical treatment is deemed unauthorized. Just the way it was handled with our client. Had our client known about the risks of the procedure, they would have decided not to undergo it.’’

’’There should be mutual trust between a patient and his doctor. Our client had established that connection with another neurosurgeon at this hospital, Dr. Rick. His absence, however, does not permit other doctors to take over our client’s case without his consent. We are unsure of what transpired behind the closed door of the operation theatre.’’

As the whole group dropped their statements one by one, the head advocate who had spoken to Alex first concluded, "Having failed to have obtained informed consent from our client, you will be charged with a civil offense like gross negligence and a criminal offense,’’ he paused, his professional gaze shifting between Alex and Maxim before settling on the former, ’’Hence, we suggest that you call your lawyers over to take it from here.’’

’’Bullshit!’’ Alex snapped, ’’You don’t have to shove your literature down my ears. I am a doctor, not a fucking erudite. The crux of it all is that your client was fucking dying and we let him carry on with his breaths. The surgery, unauthorized, in your words, was a successful one or your client might not have been alive to sue the hell out of us.’’

"Do act in a dignified manner. We have every right to sue you for behaving inappropriately with the opposition’s advocate.’’

’’Bullshit sue me! Bullshit advocate. You fu...’’
