Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 254: Uncle
Chapter 254: Uncle
Maxim raised an eyebrow, not quite denying it as the flashbacks of his ’quality time’ with Diana sneaked through his mind.
A smile touched his lips.
’’Creepy,’’ Logan’s brows tugged together.
’’You won’t know,’’ Maxim rolled his eyes, tucking a hand in his pocket.
"Trust me I don’t want to know,’’ Logan narrowed his eyes, ’’I would never want to know how wrong it can get when a man starts daydreaming about a woman.’’
Maxim paused, and then he nodded after a beat, ’’That’s sad,’’ he patted Logan’s shoulder, ’’But I can wish you luck.’’
A vein twitched on Logan’s forehead.
’’Are you coming? I heard that the patient is not in the right mood,’’ Maxim had just walked past Logan when he paused and turned to look at him, waiting for his response.
Logan lowered his head but he did not turn to face Maxim, ’’It has nothing to do with me.’’
’’He doesn’t have much time to live. Maybe months, or years if he is lucky. Ana told me he has been looking for his son...’’ When there was no reaction from Logan, Maxim continued, ’’If it has anything to do with you, don’t make a decision that you might regret all your life. Don’t turn your back on him today, only to beat yourself over it later if he doesn’t open his eyes tomorrow.’’
Usually, Maxim would just let things be. He was not a meddlesome person.
As a doctor, it was his duty to treat his patients. Apart from that, he liked minding his own business.
But probably after he talked to Diana about his grandfather, a burden seemed to have lifted off his chest after so long. It has been over a decade since that rock was pressed in his heart.
What if they had taken him to some other hospital in time? What if he hadn’t left to get food? Would he have been able to talk to his grandfather for the last time?
There were countless what-ifs in his head, that stayed since he was a teenager and persisted to nag him till he became a doctor and started doing well in his life.
It was strange that one regret, one afterthought can linger around for so long and feed on a person’s emotional distress.
If possible, Maxim did not want Logan to go through that.
Logan remained quiet, letting Maxim’s words sink into his head.
When Maxim started feeling like he was not going to receive a response, Logan opened his mouth to speak, ’’I don’t want to turn back,’’ there was no hesitation in his voice.
Maxim could see the certainty on his face, ’’As long as you are certain,’’ he turned around and walked towards the VIP wards, not noticing a shadow behind the wall.
As the elevator door opened, Logan took a step forward only for his footsteps to halt in the next moment.
’’Ah Xian?"
Logan stood rooted in his spot, stunned. The distinctly familiar name. It was as if he was being addressed by this name just yesterday but at the same time, ages seemed to have passed.
’’Ah Xian,’’ A warm smile touched Qin Zehan’s face, and this time he called the name in a confident tone.
Logan tilted his head to the side, ’’You got the wrong...’’
’’Right person. I am certain,’’ Qin Zehan shrugged a shoulder, ’’I did my research.’’
Logan ignored the man, ’’I am not sure what you are talking about.’’
’’Bad for you,’’ Qin Zehan raised a brow. He raised a hand and patted Logan’s shoulder, ’’But luck is on your side since I am willing to explain what I am talking about.’’
"_"
Logan felt like these words sounded awfully similar.
Didn’t Maxim utter these same words a few minutes ago?
On what account was he bumping into such people today?
"I...’’
’’I am your uncle,’’ Qin Zehan cut him off sleekly, ’’Now, don’t act like you don’t know me. I always knew that you didn’t die. Unlike your stupid father who was so paranoid about your condition that he begged me to look for you, I had already conducted my investigation and discovered your existence long ago.’’
Logan glanced at the man.
Qin Zehan nodded. He was aware that was not time to explain or recall the past but he was worried that if he let Logan go this time, he might not have a chance to stop him again, ’’I found you before anyone did but when I visited Gwen Parker’s place, I spotted you sitting with her in the garden as you planted seeds. You seemed content, although not happy.
Your mother was gone, and your father left the family. I did not know if you would be the same way if I brought you back to the desolate Qin mansion.
So, I let my people keep an eye on you from afar. I did not trust that old lady so I waited for her to make a mistake that will make things easy for me and I would be able to bring you back.’’
But with every passing day, Logan seemed to be smiling and healing little by little. And he seemed to be gradually cutting the Qin family off his existence.
It was hurtful but Qin Zehan could not bring himself to prioritize the family’s needs at that time.
Even if he had lost the legitimate heir of their family, and his father had to lose his eldest grandson, he still went ahead and put Logan’s mental and physical health first when he secretly visited Gwen Parker in Logan’s absence.
By that time, Qin Zehan was assured that Gwen Parker was a harmless old lady and she had no dubious intentions.
He offered her a huge amount of money to raise and feed Logan.
But she turned him down saying that she had enough lands to sell and they would make sufficient money for her to feed her ’grandson’.
That steeled Qin Zehan’s faith that Logan was in the right hands. Probably, he belonged there.
