Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 233: Glib tongue

Chapter 233: Glib tongue

So, Ivy was like an overenthusiastic child when it came to flaunting her hacking skills. She might get herself a few pointers from ’Dexter’ and the thought of it left her excited. So, she dashed out of the Master Bedroom like a gust of wind.

Meanwhile, the said idol was clueless about Ivy’s sentiments. Daisy was preoccupied with coaxing Angel and thinking of a solution for Diana’s problem.

But Diana could see the look of worship in Ivy’s eyes. It reminded her of fans admiring their favorite superstars no matter how she looked at it.

It took Ivy almost two hours to hack into the hospital database without leaving any trails behind and Daisy almost lost her patience a few times. But when she saw Ivy’s excitement, she could only ask to lend a hand by giving pointers to increase her speed.

Ivy was more than happy with it.

To Angel and Diana, these displays of skills were like a set of blurred movements that gradually bored them after a few moments. When they started yawning, they smartly shifted their attention away and started playing with each other.

Diana’s bitter mood was uplifted by little Angel like magic.

’’There are 4 people named Louis in the whole hospital, right? One of them is female and out of the remaining three, one is a teenager,’’ Ivy looked at Diana.

Diana shook her head and leaned over, ’’It’s him,’’ she immediately recognized Louis’s picture out of the two remaining pictures.

Ivy immediately checked through the data of the man whom Diana pointed at, ’’He has been treated in Beijing before...’’ After a pause, she added, ’’No surname mentioned just as you said.’’

Beijing?

Daisy observed the man’s features with a thoughtful look. His phoenix eyes gave away his origins, ’’If he is East Asian, Louis might just be his English name.’’

Diana followed Daisy’s gaze and noticed the point she had missed earlier. All this while, she had a few exchanges with Louis but they were not on familiar terms and hence, she had never paid attention to such minute details.

Ivy slumped back on the bed. After all that effort, they were back to square one.

’’Dee, how did he offend you?" Ivy could not help but ask, unable to hold her curiosity.

Diana narrated the events to both women, but when it came to the argument between her and Maxim, she mentioned it vaguely.

But both Daisy and Ivy caught the gist of it.

Daisy was naturally not talkative, so she did not comment on it.

She wanted to break Maxim’s bone for upsetting her sister.

But her sister would not let her.

So Daisy did not want to waste her breath on the two clowns. They would make up anyway and she would be the evil one there.

But Ivy, who had been holding her mouth back since morning, could not keep quiet anymore, ’’Dee, is that why you were upset?" Daisy gave her a side-long glance but Ivy’s chatterbox mode was on by that time hence she did not even notice Daisy’s meaningful gaze as she kept speaking, ’’You care for sir so you did not want him to face unknown danger. But as a doctor, if he abandoned his patient because of a few issues, would you still look up to him? Moreover...’’

Daisy closed her eyes helplessly as she watched Diana’s expression shift.

This girl was still intelligent when she did not talk. Why must she cause a disaster the moment she used that mouth?

’’Dee, you are not upset anymore, are you?" Noticing that Diana was silent, Ivy continued exaggeratedly this time, ’’I think the world needs more such people who know...’’

’’Who knows how to risk themselves?" Diana tilted her head slightly, ’’What has the world got to do with me?"

"People suffer every day from who knows what. No matter how upsetting it is, my hands aren’t that long. All I want to do is protect the people I hold dear. To not let them fall victim to anyone’s maliciousness. To hold them close and cherish them. Is that too much to ask for?"

Was it really too much to ask for?

She could not save the world. She was no epitome of kindness.

She was just a human. Greedy and selfish.

What was the world doing when the young Maxim was suffering?

In this world, there was no such thing as considering others first. At least in her world, there wasn’t.

For a moment of righteousness and kindness, she was not willing to let Maxim make amends for another’s crime. He could be the doctor he was and treat his patient but she was not willing to see him being troubled because of his kindness later. Was it too much to ask for?

Diana could forsake the world, ethics, and morals if the stakes were the people she cared for.

Both Daisy and Ivy were stunned into silence.

Diana’s voice was suppressed because of Angel’s presence but one could hear the rage and helplessness in her tone towards the whole situation.

Having interacted with Louis before, Diana knew how paranoid the man was about his health. And he did not have a good impression of Maxim. From what Veronica informed them, his condition was grave. His current condition told her that he did not have much to live. If he survived this surgery and was told that he might not live long, then according to his personality, he would direct his wrath at Maxim and Alex.

If he could not make it in the surgery... then they had no idea who would come to avenge him because his whole persona was shrouded in mystery.

He was just having his surgery yet the hospital was locked down so if things turned further pessimistic, Diana did not dare to think of the consequences.

The least Diana had hoped for was to find Louis’ identity so that they could make arrangements for the worst case if things went wrong. But who knew it was so complicated?

’’Maxim might be right...’’ Diana lowered her head as she glanced at her hand, the sight of the small heart tattoo in the corner of her wrist making a familiar figure flash in her head, ’’But I am not wrong either,’’ she mumbled under her breath.

Daisy patted Diana’s head gently, ’’You are not wrong,’’ As Diana looked at her expectantly, Daisy continued, ’’But Maxim is a doctor. If he made any other decision, then it would be a shame to his profession,’’ Daisy said reluctantly, her tone holding a hint of praise.

As reluctant as Daisy was but she had to admit that Maxim, that wily fox, knew when to retract and when to extend his claws.

Diana remained silent.

Ivy felt like their words were too philosophic and complicated for her to decipher. Hence, being her straightforward self, she asked Diana, ’’If you were in his place, what would you do? Would you choose the patient or disregard him because of all the factors?"

Diana paused for a moment and without any hesitation, she replied, ’’Choose the patient," That should be any doctor’s decision.

Ivy nodded, ’’If it was some other doctor, then would you tell them to be calculative with the patient because of such circumstances?"

Diana found Ivy’s thought process ridiculous, ’’Of course not. What are you even thinking?"

Ivy’s eyes flickered with a teasing glint, ’’That means you also know that Sir’s decision was right and you agree with it. It’s not the situation that is upsetting you so much, but the doctor involved. We are safe to say that you are not being angry about it, Dee. You are just being too concerned for someone.’’

Diana glanced at Ivy as her cheeks gradually turned rosy, ’’You... talk too much.’’

Ivy burst out in laughter.

Daisy: "_" A glib tongue... was that useful?
