Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 214: Scram
Chapter 214: Scram
Ryle appeared to be in a leisurely mood as he hung up the call and stroked his parrot’s chin. The parrot had a rare obedient expression on his face.
The harmonious scene made the people witnessing it quite speechless. Since when did their boss become a gentle person? After all, none of them had a clue about his private life. This company started a few years ago and it was singlehandedly managed by Ryle as it grew by leaps and bounds. All of them admired the man greatly after having worked for him for years but still, they did not have the guts to look into his eyes, let alone pry about his private life.
There were rare times when their boss was pretty amicable or playful but to the core members and private team of guards who had witnessed him killing people unblinkingly while he smiled sweetly, it was just a facade to hide how cold-blooded he was. In fact, most of them preferred it when their boss was quiet and calm because the slightest smiles he showed usually ended up with them having to clean up bodies.
That was why they were unnerved when they saw Ryle pampering a parrot. None of them believed that it was their boss’s pet. Instead, they naturally assumed that their boss probably wanted to try parrot meat.
Clueless to their far-fetching ideas, Ryle was in a good mood as he stroked the parrot. It was a pity he could not dump the bird with Maxim for some more days.
’’Ahh Master...’’ The parrot moaned.
The men who were trying to diminish their presence felt like they were struck by lightning.
"_"
They had known it. They had always known that their boss was rather abnormal. He had the reputation of being a playboy as he was usually surrounded by women but a few of them doubted that their boss might have some secret feelings towards Dexter for him to look for him persistently for years.
But just how abnormal he was to be able to...
He... How could he not even spare a parrot?
They burnt joss sticks in their hearts for the pitiful bird who encountered their Boss in this life. Maybe in the next life, he would soar freely without being tainted by anyone. Maybe he would be able to retain his chastity.
They looked at each other and saw the same look of sympathy in each other’s eyes.
In the end, what could they do except for trying to protect each other?
Unaware that he had been labeled as a kind of beast that even violated birds, Ryle chastised the parrot who was making faces and moaning.
’’What did Maxim teach you? Does he thinks he can do anything just because he is my friend?" Ryle narrowed his eyes.
Not even for a moment did he consider that he was the person who imparted this precious knowledge to the bird.
His footsteps came to a halt suddenly as something caught his attention.
Ryle turned to look at the desk which had a pile of files sitting atop it in an organized manner. But his gaze did not linger on those files for a moment as he looked past them and glanced at the man who was flipping through the pages of a document in his hand.
There was a hint of surprise in Ryle’s eyes as he looked at the man’s exhausted face.
Distracted by the sound of approaching footsteps, Daisy raised her head, thinking that someone had once again come to send her food but her eyes narrowed when she saw who this newcomer was.
The surprise in Ryle’s heart did not show up on his face as he spoke calmly, ’’I did ask you to not leave the company before you memorized these but...’’ he did not know how to put it in words what he felt, ’’...you did not have to work continuously...’’
Was this guy a fool?
Daisy looked at him without responding.
Ryle’s lips tugged up slightly when he saw her quiet appearance. As expected, his method to tame an employee was the best. If it was before, this guy would have thrown profanities at him by now. Since his method was this effective, Ryle no longer felt the need to push this guy. After all, Dexter had been recently heartbroken by his girlfriend in Beijing, even Diana took a liking to his pretty face and after that, he was punished by him.
Life had not been easy on him. With that thought, Ryle sighed, ’’If you are regretful of your past actions and know not to repeat them. That is more than enough. Go home and take a rest now...’’
’’Scram.’’
Daisy cut him off with a single word, her eyes frosty as she met his gaze.
’’Ahhh...’’ The parrot shrieked when Daisy raised her voice as it flew from Ryle’s hand, crashing on an employee’s desk.
Ryle’s face was darker than the bottom of a pot, ’’What did you say?" he stepped closer to Daisy’s desk.
’’Scram,’’ Daisy repeated, her expression not budging in the slightest.
The look she gave him was as if the sight of him was unwelcomed by her.
Ryle’s fingers curled into a fist as he stepped back, his lips thinning into a straight line, ’’Good. Get it done before tomorrow. You are wasting everyone’s time.’’
He picked the parrot from its neck and stepped into his office without sparing another glance at the wild secretary he had picked up for himself.
The people who were witnessing the drama felt like they had seen something they should not have seen. Feeling rather worried about their lives, they quickly dispersed, acting like they had not seen or heard a thing.
Their boss did not extend an olive branch to Dexter at all.
Dexter did not ask their boss to ’scram’ at all.
Nothing happened at all.
Once Ryle was gone, the rest of the crowd scattered as well and the place returned to the peace that Daisy was accustomed to during the nighttime.
Daisy’s gaze lowered as she looked at her phone quietly.
The reason she did not answer Diana’s calls was not that she was too busy to do it. Except for Ryle, no one dared to approach her even though they talked about her.
But it was just that when she talked to Diana and heard her voice, she would feel the helplessness of the situation she was in where she was unable to dissociate herself from Ryle no matter how much she wanted to.
Daisy had been alone for most of her life. Their father was too busy to pay attention to them and their mother took on the task of molding Diana since the woman found her to be a disappointment. So, she was left to herself mostly and with Diana moving to the US, they barely got to spend time with each other. Si Yena was the only friend she had but Daisy did not mind when she was not around. After her studies, she handled her jobs by herself.
All along, she had been used to being alone.
But it had barely been a few days since she came here and started living with Diana, Angel, and Ivy. She did not think much of it initially even though she was happy after reuniting with Angel and Diana.
Yet, now that she had not gone back for almost two days, she felt an aching inside her. It was strange. Let alone Diana and Angel, at this point she was even missing Ivy’s chatty nature although it annoyed her mostly.
Her cold eyes had a hint of turmoil in them as she pushed her phone aside.
’’A few more hours...’’ she murmured, looking at the remaining files in front of her.
