Chapter 199: Don’t you miss home?
They were the old employees that she used to know. They used to bootlick her because Ryle treated her rather well back then.
But then, she left the job and disappeared. All of them must have known that she had gotten on Ryle’s wrong side hence none of them seemed to have any intention of approaching her now,
Daisy walked straight to Ryle’s office and knocked twice on the door before stepping inside.
A woman was sitting on Ryle’s desk as she stripped the layers of her clothes slowly while Ryle glanced at his watch impatiently.
Daisy’s lips twitched slightly. Even if he was uninterested, the woman was still stripping for him. Was it hard for him to show a little interest to make her happy?
Daisy felt a bit sorry for the woman but when Ryle’s gaze locked on her, she realized that she might feel more sorry for herself later on.
’’You are here,’’ Ryle dismissed the woman who hastily dressed up and rushed out of the office, not before pausing to admire the other handsome man who stepped inside the room.
Ryle glanced at the man who was cluelessly seducing women around him, ’’Come here, take a seat,’’ he pointed to the chair opposite to him.
Daisy quietly approached the table and took a seat.
After a moment of silence, Ryle rubbed his chin and spoke up, ’’When the incident with Si Yena occurred, I told you that to forget one woman, you should get another.’’
Daisy paused for a moment, not knowing what to say. She was a woman, so was Si Yena and she was straight. Even if she had no fondness for men, she did not prefer women romantically either.
Ryle was the one who misunderstood their relationship and it was impossible for Daisy to explain it without exposing her identity so she kept quiet.
’’But, that does not mean that the woman has to be Diana,’’ Ryle frowned.
Daisy noticed how pressed he sounded when he mentioned Diana’s name. Her brows arched slightly, ’’Why not?’’
Ryle smirked, ’’For one, she is like a troublesome princess who will probably break your heart in no time no matter how much you use that pretty face of yours. And then, she has my friend wrapped around her little finger who will probably sever our friendship if you go around seducing his girl. Although she is paying a little attention to you now, how long do you think you can be favored by her? In the end, you need to remember that I, your boss, am the only person who treats you the best in this world.’’
Daisy did not say anything for a few moments before she opened her mouth, ’’If I apologize for disappearing back then, will you cancel this contract?" she had no interest in idling with him so she came straight to the point.
Ryle’s eyes darkened when he heard her words. His lips tugged up in a devilish smirk, ’’Do I not pay you well? I even agreed to pay you as much as you want. Why do you still want to quit?"
"Your face is...’’ she paused for a moment before speaking honestly, ’’...intolerable.’’
He was a cocky and arrogant man. Someone who would haunt a secretary for two years just because they quit the job and it hurt his male ego in the process.
This kind of man... she did not want to have any entanglements with him. It was fine when she was alone but now that she had people she cared about around her, Daisy could not bother with a person like Ryle lest he came at them for revenge.
Ryle chuckled, ’’Funny how you think it’s that easy. I have gotten a few things arranged for you.’’
Daisy glanced at him blankly.
At this moment, a few men stepped inside the office room with stacks of files in their hands. They placed them in front of Daisy.
Soon the table was filled with files to the extent that Daisy could not see Ryle.
Ryle pushed himself to his feet and walked around the table before he leaned back on it, observing her expression.
’He is still as expressionless,’ Ryle raised an eyebrow, ’I will see how long he will be like this.’
If he didn’t make this wild man regret his actions for abandoning the company and running away back then, then he would change his surname.
Ryle glanced at the tall stacks of files as he spoke, ’’The records of the past two years since the very day you disappeared. It contains all the data of the company, investments, profits, losses, details, and track records of every employee that joined, the team of elite guards, their private information, and many such things in detail. What you need to do is... look through every one of them, and learn it by heart. After all, you haven’t been around for almost two years so I am worried that you won’t be able to catch up. As my secretary, you naturally need to be thorough about everything that happened in the company.’’
Daisy quietly glanced at the stacks of files that blocked the light, casting a shadow on her. She remembered promising Angel that she would be back before her sleeping time.
’’Of course, there is a solution if you don’t want to do this...’’
Daisy raised her head to look at the man.
Ryle smirked when he saw the glint of hope in the pair of pale green eyes, ’’Beg. Grovel. Say how much you regret disappearing like that.’’
Daisy’s lips parted.
After a few moments of silence, she pushed herself to her feet and grabbed a stack of files, ’’I will gradually move them all to my desk,’’ With that said, she turned around.
Ryle’s eyes narrowed, ’’Don’t leave the company till you are done,’’ he coldly said but she left without responding to him.
Ryle glanced at the head of ash-blonde hair till it was out of his sight.
His lips thinned as he felt like his punch landed on soft cotton. He did not get the result he desired and that made him feel somewhat frustrated.
He wanted to snuff the arrogance in Dexter’s eyes.
When had he ever been treated like a plague?
He would take over someone else’s surname if he did not make this guy regret it.
...
Later that evening, Diana and Ivy were munching on popcorn while watching the classic version of Cinderella with Angel who was licking a small crushed jelly in her hand.
Diana could not help but be a bit cynical as she watched the movie, ’’Say, if Cinderella did not transform herself for the ball, would she have been noticed by the Prince?"
Ivy burst out in laughter, ’’But she did transform herself and it’s a fact.’’
’’Let’s suppose she did not go to the ball at all, what then? Do you think the Prince would have sniffed all the way to find her? It’s ridiculous,’’ Diana rolled her eyes, ’’What more, why was she eager to go to the ball in the first place? It’s so boring. If I was in her place, I would run away from that place to seek freedom.’’
’’You are not being romantic at all,’’ Ivy rolled her eyes, ’’Freedom is good for a girl but which one of us doesn’t dream of being swooped in by a charming Prince?"
’’You dream of that?" Holding the popcorn between her teeth, Diana turned to look at Ivy curiously.
Ivy’s excited voice disappeared as she cringed, ’’Of course not. Are men reliable? What if I ended up being swooped in by the devil instead of a Prince? I still think my laptop and my game characters are the most reliable out there.’’
Diana spat the popcorn out of her mouth as she laughed, ’’Just like I expected.’’
Realizing that she contradicted her own words, Ivy rubbed her nose, ’’But you said balls are boring. Have you been to many of them?"
Diana nodded as she ran her fingers through Angel’s soft hair. The girl leaned back on her as she made some cute noises while watching the TV, ’’Some of them were hosted by my family.’’
It was rare for Diana to bring up her family so Ivy looked at her curiously.
’’But trust me, it’s very boring and ridiculous. Most of the people there are hypocrites...’’ that included herself as well because whenever she attended such parties, she had to act like someone she was not, she had to adapt to a fake personality for every fake person she met there, ’’Comparatively, I prefer it like this. We can eat, sit, and talk and no one bothers us. Back at the mansion, I was allowed to have my meals at fixed times, no suppers unless I was dying out of hunger...’’ Diana mumbled in a daze.
Ivy rubbed her arms, ’’That’s scary.’’
Diana laughed at Ivy’s innocent tone. Scarier things happened there. She sighed and switched the topic, ’’What about you?"
’’What about me?"
’’Don’t you miss home?’’
