Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 165: We named her

Chapter 165: We named her

"Let me assure you, sweetheart. You can meet men as you want," his large palm settled on her coat, slowly sliding under it as he stroked the fabric of her dress, "But none of them will turn you on as I do. At the end of the day, it will be my mouth you will desire everywhere."

Her breathing fastened. The warmth of his palm seemed to be seeping through the material of her dress, electrocuting her whole body.

She felt strange. She was so turned on by his touch yet his words enraged her.

He wanted to not take it further. After contemplating it, she decided to not push the matter and now that she told him her decision, he was pushing her buttons.

What did he take her for?

"You are not the only man in the world. Stop overestimating yourself," her eyes narrowed.

His palm gripped her waist, thumb drawing circles on the fabric of her dress, "I am not the only man in the world yet you are leaning closer, wanting to be held tighter by me. Such double standards."

"You..." From the corner of her eyes, Diana saw Daisy approaching in their direction.

Before she could say anything to Maxim, he pushed himself back from her. He met her gaze for a second before he turned around and left, followed by Ryle.

Diana glanced at his retreating back till she could not see it anymore.

Her heart was galloping in her chest. She looked at the vase of roses in her hand. On one of the slightly broken rose stems, there was a thin trail of blood near a thorn.

Diana frowned. Was he injured?

"What’s wrong?" Daisy followed her gaze.

"He is strange today," Diana mumbled, "I am worried about him."

"You are not his mother. Stop trying to figure him out," Daisy grabbed her hand and led her to the elevator, "You can’t figure him out."

"Why not?" Diana pouted.

"How can you do that when he has not figured himself out? Back then, I had never seen him acting this unreasonable when I was around."

"That’s because he knew you."

"He knew I am Daisy. He now knows me as Dexter. What difference does it make? Let him answer such questions by himself. You can’t keep guessing his mind endlessly. He needs to express what he thinks as well," Daisy ruffled her hair, "If he keeps you guessing, then it’s better to stay away from him."

"I won’t abandon him," Diana swatted away her hand, "Just because I am emotional after seeing you after such a long time, you can’t act like a big sister and be this bossy."

"But I am your big sister," Daisy quirked a brow.

"You..." Diana rolled her eyes, "We are equal. You are barely a tad bit older."

"Tad bit or not, I am still older than you," Daisy shrugged.

"Humph!" After thinking about it for some time, Diana sighed, "I don’t know what he is thinking. I just hope he is fine," she glanced at the trail of dried blood on the rose stem.

She was still angry at the way he acted a moment ago yet she was worried about him now.

"He is a man. He won’t die by a small cut."

Diana glared at Daisy. Why has her sister not softened herself even a bit during this period?

...

"You live here?" Daisy’s footsteps slowed down as she entered the place.

Diana locked the door behind her, "When I came to LA first, I ended up living at Ryle’s mansion."

"What?" Daisy turned on her heels the moment she heard that.

"With Warner, not with Ryle," Diana quickly explained but Daisy looked further confused so she sighed, "It’s a long story. But you can say that this is my place now."

Daisy glanced at Diana quietly.

"What? Is there something on my face?" Diana touched her cheeks.

"It’s been tough on you."

Diana waved her hand as she kicked off her heels, "Initially, I also felt that way but I don’t find it hard anymore. It’s like a breath of fresh air. My current life, I mean.

I have a job. A workplace. People who are clueless about my background and hence are not wary or unnecessarily friendly around me. There are some bitchy people who pick on me but they are mostly harmless, nowhere as manipulative as the servants who used to be around me in the Chen Mansion. I have Angel and Ivy with me. Sometimes, I find some time to write randomly in the middle of the night and it’s good to pursue what I once loved. And I have Warner. Although he was a bit unreasonable today but he is my greatest source of comfort..." Diana trailed off when she noticed the soft smile on her sister’s face, "What?"

"While looking for you, I was worried about how you would make a living. Those people raised you like some Disney princess. I thought you would starve yourself in the world outside of the mansion. But it seems like my worries were all for naught," Daisy patted her head, "You have a job. A place. Friends. And now, you seem to be living your own life, instead of letting someone else control it."

Diana pursed her lips, "By someone, you mean our mother, don’t you?"

Daisy’s brows pinched together, "Don’t bring her up."

"Daisy," Diana held her hand, "She is in the wrong but you can’t hate her. She is... quite pitiful at times."

"We can leave this conversation for some other day," Daisy pulled her hand away from Diana’s grasp, "We are seeing each other after so long. I don’t want us to argue over meaningless things."

"Forget that I said something," Diana grabbed her hand, "Come with me."

"Where?"

"You are afraid to ask about her but I am not afraid to let you meet her," Diana smiled, watching Daisy’s eyes widen as she dragged her toward the Master bedroom.

Before Diana could push the door open, the door opened from inside.

"Dee, you are back—" Ivy stopped speaking when she noticed the other person.

"She is Ivy. She has been helping me out here," Diana said to Daisy.

Daisy nodded.

"This is...?" Ivy glanced at the man standing beside Diana.

Diana looked at Daisy, seeking her permission with her eyes, "Ivy has no dealings with Ryle. Can we...?"

She did not want to lie to Ivy and it would be impossible to keep the cover of Daisy being a woman if Daisy stayed with them.

Secondly, Diana could more or less deduce that Daisy’s disguise had probably something to do with Ryle. Since Maxim was close to Ryle, Daisy refused to let her tell him anything as well.

Daisy looked at Ivy, "How about Maxim? No dealings?"

Diana closed her mouth. Right. Ivy was absolutely loyal to Maxim. And with the kind of blabbermouth she was, it would be a wonder if she managed to keep a secret from him.

Ivy blinked.

Diana looked at her, "Angel’s father, Dexter."

Ivy gasped, "No way..." she inched closer to Daisy, examining every feature in detail, "Dee, now that I look at him up so close, I feel like Angel’s eyelids are similar to his. The nose. And the mouth...."

"_"

"What eyelids? She hasn’t even turned one yet," Diana grabbed Ivy from her collar, stopping her from latching to Daisy like an octopus.

Daisy was not a gentle person so it was best to take Ivy’s personal safety into consideration.

"Angel..?" Daisy glanced at Ivy and Diana.

Diana smiled, "We named her Angelica."

Thinking back to the time, she remembered how troubled she was while thinking of the name for Angel. She loved the nickname ’Angel’ and Maxim ended up choosing this name for her.

Logan, Ivy, her, and Maxim were living together back then.

"She has been a handful today. Throughout the day, she kept calling mama papa and played endlessly. She did not even take her usual nap. She just dozed off an hour ago when her energy was drained," Ivy stretched her shoulders, "I will leave you both to catch up," Even though she was curious about the handsome man in their humble abode, she kept it in.

Inwardly, Ivy applauded Diana’s sister for taking down such a man.

The man looked so cold and unapproachable. And there was something dangerous about him. It made Ivy think of Maxim and Logan. She thought ice cubes were a part of history now. Who could have known she would encounter another ice cube today?
