Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 163: Her place, my place

Chapter 163: Her place, my place

Maxim shot a warning gaze in Ryle’s direction. If he raised his voice at Diana for another time, their friendship would be as good as dead already.

Ryle cleared his throat, taking the cue, and glanced at Diana as if he was looking at a child, "Of course not, Your Highness. How dare I threaten your people?" He said in a coaxing voice.

Maxim narrowed his eyes at him at the ’your people’.

Ryle leaned closer, "Stop glaring at me. I am just trying to help with the situation," he whispered in his ear and nodded assuredly before pulling back.

Before Ryle could talk again, Maxim heard the man named Dexter speaking, "Contract? I can disappear once without you being able to trace my whereabouts for two years. I can do it all over again. I will see who can stop me. Don’t push my boundaries. You won’t like the outcome," he looked at Ryle with an aloof gaze.

Ryle was ready to argue but Diana glanced at him with wide doe eyes.

Gulping his grievances, Ryle turned to look at Maxim with a pitiful gaze.

Maxim ignored him and watched as Diana was pulled closer by the other man.

"I will see who dares to stop me," With that said, Dexter turned to leave while holding Diana’s hand.

Maxim frowned. Just as he took a step forward, the man stopped in his tracks and pulled his leather jacket, revealing the shining metal of a gun, "I will blow this place if any of you tries to waste another minute of mine," he warned, looking at him from above his shoulder.

Before Maxim could follow him, Ryle held his hand, "He is not an unreasonable person."

"Not unreasonable?" Maxim gave him a sidelong glance.

Ryle guiltily cleared his throat, "I get it that he warned to blow the airport but think of it. If your girl did not feel safe with him, would she have walked out with such confidence? She was not afraid of him."

Maxim remained quiet. The fact that she had such confidence in some other man made him feel like he had a fishbone stuck in his throat.

Ryle patted his shoulder, "Are you just concerned about Diana’s safety, or looking at them acting so intimate is affecting you?" Heaving a sigh, he continued, "Troublesome it is. That’s why bedding a woman is the best. I would prefer it any day over chasing her heart."

Maxim’s jaw clenched, "Think twice before you speak about her."

"I am talking about women in general," Ryle rolled his eyes, "Let’s go back to my place so that you can figure it out in peace."

"No."

"No?" Ryle almost screamed. He lowered his voice, "Don’t tell me you intend to stalk them back to her place? Never realized you had such creepy tendencies."

Maxim thrust a hand in his pocket as he stepped out of the airport, "The place where she lives... is my place too."

Ryle: "_"

...

Diana hailed a cab. Once they were seated, she told the driver to speed up.

She did not want more chaos to ensue. Back in the airport, she could not understand what was going on but she could feel the thick tension in the air.

Ryle and Daisy were having some intense eye battle and Maxim was resembling an iceberg. For the sake of everyone’s well-being, it would be better if they don’t lock horns again.

"Sister..." Diana grabbed Daisy’s hand.

Daisy shook her head, her eyes cautiously scanning their surroundings before fixating on the driver.

Diana followed her gaze and glanced at the driver. He looked like an ordinary man without any ulterior motives.

She glanced at Daisy in confusion.

Daisy grabbed her palm before she wrote on her palm with the tip of her index finger.

’Stay alert’

What? Diana blinked, "I think he is fine. You don’t have to be so solemn about everything," she whispered.

’You can’t trust men,’ Daisy wrote again.

Diana was speechless but at the same time, she felt comforted too. Daisy was always cautious about every minute detail and she was wary of almost everyone.

Diana found it exhausting to think of a life like that where one had to doubt every person they encountered. And she always tried to dissuade Daisy from living like that.

Even if the trust was betrayed, one would not live a boring life, being wary of their surroundings all the time.

But right at this moment, Daisy’s wariness only made Diana smile. She clung to her, "It’s you. It’s really you. I am not dreaming!"

Daisy looked at her, warning her with her eyes to stop speaking and stay alert.

But Diana could not stop to bother by her sister’s paranoid antics. She hugged her tighter.

"Silly girl!" Daisy sighed.

"Ma’am, I’ll have to drop you here. The car is not allowed inside," the driver parked the car in front of the gate.

Diana nodded. Since it was a residential area for VIPs, it was heavily guarded. Only the residents were allowed to take their vehicles inside.

Once they walked past the gates, Daisy spoke up in her own voice, "If you keep staring at me, Diana, I will report you to authorities," she said coldly.

Diana rolled her eyes, "My sister is the most handsome man in the world," she whispered.

"Is it? The discreet looks you were giving someone in the airport did not express the sincerity of the words you are spouting now."

Diana choked on her saliva, "You know how it is. He is..."

"Still a friend?" Daisy tilted her head to the side as she looked at her, "The hickeys on your neck will agree to that, right?"

Diana was stumped for words, "You... You are too much. How can you bully me when we are meeting after so long?"

"You only know how to act pitiful when you are caught," Daisy chastised but she still patted her back to comfort her.

"Daisy," Diana observed the lost expression on her face.

"Hmm?"

"Don’t you have something else that you want to ask? Don’t you want to ask about someone in particular?" She observed her sister’s expressions, taking in the way her body stiffened slightly.

"I want to. But I am scared," Daisy said after some time.

"Scared?" Growing up, Diana had never seen Daisy fearing anything.

If she started fearing something, she would face it head-on till she got over that fear.

She was scared of their mother who could be abusive at times. Then, Daisy trained in martial arts. Most of the days, she would be covered in external injuries because of how hard she pushed herself. And eventually, the dynamics shifted. Their mother was the one who started fearing Daisy even though she did not show it because of her prideful nature.

Listening as she said that she was scared to ask about her daughter, Diana was slightly surprised, "Scared of what?"

"I am scared that if I ask you, I might not get the answer that I am expecting to hear," Daisy’s footsteps slowed down.

Diana let out an exaggerated sigh, "When will you stop being so pessimistic, Dais—?" Before she could finish speaking, Daisy grabbed her shoulder and slapped a palm on her mouth, her eyes scanning their surroundings.

Diana’s eyes widened in disbelief. She patted her arm.

Daisy removed her palm from her mouth, "Someone is after us," she switched her voice and spoke in Dexter’s voice this time.

Diana looked around, "Are you sure? It could be the other residents."

Daisy looked in the direction of the bushes on the side of the cobblestone path, "Let me check."

Diana grabbed her hand, "Let’s just go to my place. I think you are being paranoid. This place has the best security or so what Warner told me."

Daisy flicked her forehead.

Hiding behind the bushes, Maxim was ready to rush towards them to pull Diana away from that pretty man but he was stopped by Ryle.

"Are you crazy? She won’t die from a forehead flick but you will be dead meat if you show up," Ryle held a twig in front of him as he glared at Maxim, "Diana will think of you as a creepy stalker. And didn’t I tell you that this Dexter guy has cat-like senses? We didn’t even dare to breathe loudly yet he sensed our presence."

Maxim reluctantly stayed put in his place as he observed the scene.

"Ow..." Diana clutched her forehead, "What was that for?"

"He told you this place has the best security and you trusted him? He will tell you that he saw dinosaurs, will you buy that too?"
