Diana raised a brow, ’’Who asked me to read it and ignore it? I am merely doing what you want. What are you so flustered for? She is still typing something.’’

As if on cue, another text came right at that moment.

’You can’t get her. And I can’t get my dream Romeo. Did you curse me behind my back, boy? Although the date went well, there is no chemistry between us. Nada. Zilch. I can’t imagine myself giving you siblings with him. Sigh, say, do you think I have some tragic fate in romance?’

Diana wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes by the time she finished reading, ’’She is more adorable the more I know her. Wait...’’ she trailed off, ’’What did Hazel mean by you can’t get her?’’

Angel started crying.

Maxim’s back relaxed slightly.

Diana coaxed the little girl but Maxim was one step ahead as he pushed himself to his feet and picked Angel from her arms, ’’Eat,’’ he said.

’’You didn’t tell me what it was about,’’ Diana started eating, barely getting over staring at Angel begrudgingly as the girl immediately calmed down in Maxim’s arms.

’’She has misunderstandings regarding my ex.’’

Diana nodded. Now that made sense. Because Hazel had no idea that Nora and Maxim were fake dating.

But in Hazel’s eyes, weren’t they already dating before they broke up? Shouldn’t she say something like ’you lost her’ instead of saying ’you can’t get her’?

Something was amiss.

That did not make sense but Diana chose not to dwell on it, knowing that there must be some inside story in it.

Maxim parked the car in front of Diana’s apartment, ’’Get changed and come back,’’ he said, checking the time on his watch, ’’I have a surgery scheduled in about an hour. We need to take a detour to reach the hospital.’’

Diana looked at him, ’’You should go back to the hospital first.’’

’’There is terrible traffic due to the weather. As much as I appreciate your fondness for cabs, I don’t want you to be late,’’ Maxim looked at her mockingly.

’’You...’’ Who is fond of cabs? I am fond of you and you don’t even know how to appreciate it.

Diana felt like she had somehow provoked Maxim after yesterday’s incident and now he was provoking her back.

She inhaled a deep breath, ’’Could it be that you want to escort me personally?" she removed her seatbelt and leaned closer to him, her lips curling up when he averted his gaze.

Ivy who was sitting in the backseat while holding Angel curled up like a shrimp quietly.

"Oh? You want me to escort you, Your Highness?’’ Maxim composed himself, ’’You have quite a lot of demands from me, don’t you?"

Diana’s smile turned wider, ’’Of course. It depends on you to determine how much you can fulfill.’’

Maxim gripped the steering wheel tighter and stopped talking.

He pinched the spot between his brows. After a few seconds, he turned to look at the woman who was still leaning towards him, her eyes provocative, ’’You want me to drag you inside and help you get changed?"

’’Hawww...’’ Diana pressed her palm to her mouth, ’’You even provide such services part-time? Do you charge for it?"

A vein throbbed on his forehead, ’’Diana.’’

Diana straightened up, ’’Hehe. Thanks for the lift in advance. It’s an honor. Really,’’ she waved her hand, ’’Come, Ivy, Angel. Come come.’’

Once she rushed inside the apartment, Maxim lowered the car seat and covered his eyes with the back of his hand.

After a moment of quietness, he smirked slightly, ’’My troublemaker.’’

Back in Diana’s place.

While Diana got changed in her room, Ivy paced outside, her face taut in contemplation.

"Pa...’’ Angel’s lips formed a pout.

Diana stepped out of her room after getting changed. She kissed Angel’s forehead and ruffled her hair.

’’You have been awfully quiet the whole way. It is so unlike you,’’ Diana looked at Ivy.

’’I was observing,’’ Ivy said, her eyes narrowing at Diana.

’’Observing what?"

’’There is something different between Sir and you,’’ throughout the ride, and in fact, since the moment Ivy unlocked Hazel’s door, she felt like she was interrupting something by tagging along with the both of them.

Diana tucked her hair behind her ear, ’’How could it be?"

Ivy eyed her suspiciously, ’’Dee, are you being coy now?"

’’H-Huh? What?" Diana squared her shoulders, ’’Don’t overthink.’’

’’I am not. What can I overthink?" Ivy blinked.

’’I mean... it’s just that Warner and I were catching up with each other after a long time so it must the reason why I am more cheerful around him today,’’ Diana said.

And it was a partial truth anyway.

The reason she had been walking on eggshells around Maxim for the past few days was that she was bottling up what she was feeling.

But now that the cat was out of the bag and their friendship was still intact, she was relieved. And somewhere, she was anticipating more too.

Ivy nodded, ’’Right. That must be it. Actually, he is a difficult person to get along with. So, when I see him acting that way around you, it is like a novel experience,’’ she said after some thought.

Before Diana came into the picture, Maxim barely interacted with anyone. He made no small talk with people, let alone bicker with them so seeing this side of him was a different experience.

’’A difficult person?" Diana looked at her confusingly.

Ivy shrugged, ’’Sir Logan was with him all the time and whenever I saw those two ice cubes together, I would feel frustrated. Those were some tragic days.’’

Diana rubbed her neck, ’’I feel like he is the most easygoing person. He can be quite stubborn at times. Ah...’’ she stiffened, ’’That reminds me that he is still waiting outside. I will see you both later. Bye.’’

As Ivy looked at Diana’s retreating back, she smiled, ’’Your mama seems quite cheerful today. Come, today we will listen to classical music. You were giggling the last time you heard it.’’

When they reached the hospital, Diana wanted to sneak out of Maxim’s car before anyone could spot them together.

’’Why? You want to play it safe now?" Maxim looked at her provocatively.

In the end, both of them ended up entering the hospital together.

After the fiasco that had happened a few days ago, the hospital gossip was already running amok but in the end, they were just baseless rumors so Diana did not pay much attention to them.

The private elevator was empty when both of them entered. Diana fanned her face, looking at his reflection on the walls.

’’When is your friend coming back?" she asked him to shift her attention.

’’Isn’t Ryle your best friend?’’ Diana glanced at him, ’’How can you not know?"

’’He is my best friend, not my wife.’’

She rolled her eyes, ’’Wasn’t he supposed to come back within a week after the last time when he left? It has been over a week already.’’

Maxim tilted his head to the side and glanced at her reflection on the elevator wall, ’’Why are you asking about him?’’

’’Can’t I be curious?" she turned around to face him.

’’Just curious?"

’’What else?" The elevator door opened and both of them stepped out.

Maxim raised a brow, ’’I am afraid he is stuck by work,’’ Now that he thought about it, it has been quite some time since he talked to Ryle. Ryle was looking for ways to torture his ex-secretary so his delay must be related to that guy.

’’Oh,’’ Diana nodded ’’I have mailed you the information of the patients who made appointments for the second half of the day.’’

’’I will take a look at it later.’’

"Hmm?" Maxim halted in his tracks when her footsteps slowed down.

’’Good luck with your surgery. Fighting!"

His face softened, ’’Why are you so silly? Is it my first surgery or something?" he raised his hand to ruffle her hair but she was quick to grab his fingers and shove his palm away.

’’Don’t mess with my hair. It might not be your first surgery but I am happy today so I decided to sprinkle some of my energy on you.’’

’’And why are you happy?" he asked, despite feeling that he might regret asking it.

And she did not disappoint either, ’’Because...’’ she lowered her voice, ’’It feels so good to vent my inner feelings. I feel like I have grown wings and I can do anything I want without holding back.’’
